Here I check out the two most popular retractable washing lines in the UK; Vileda and Minky.
My Best Pick is Vileda but watch my video where I compare the two and install and put the Vileda washing line through its paces with a strength test.
If you're currently drying your clothes on radiators, you can save a fortune by fitting one of these and they look more discreet than freestanding systems.
Pro Tip: Wrap the line twice around the node to stop it from slipping and consider buying a prop pole if you need to extend the line further than 10m.

Best video yet! Love the install and hanging demo. ❤
I live in Texas City, TX (its very windy here) and just ordered one of these based on your review. Thank you!
Very helpful, thanks Daniel!
The dog :) 🐶 thanks - great vid
Thank you for the advice I will go for the vileda
Thank you, Daniel.
Great video thank you 🙏
Thx so much 😊
Thanks fella
Can you replace the Vileda line with a stronger steel reinforced washing line if the washing breaks?
Thanks
I had the Minky one for over eight years and it was always left out throughout the winter. It was eventually killed by a careless tradesman swinging a concrete fence post.
Hello,
Can you tell me if the cordomatic's housing is made of metal? it looks like metal although its hard to tell in the video.
Thanks
I loved your video.. the only reason I might choose Minky is because it won't rust..Of course the Veiled may not rust either.. I would be interested in another review once it has been in use for one year. I rather liked the idea of being able to remove it and take it indoors so it doesn't get wet. Lots to think about.
I've had my two Viledas hanging outside for at least five years. The still work fine. No rust or UV damage.
Hi Dan. Thanks for sharing.
I bought the Vileda one after seeing your video. I removed the rivets that were holding the wall cleat to the unit so that I could take it indoors when not being used. Vileda should change this so that you can easily remove it from the wall like you can with the Minky one.
I use a 5mm allen key to fix it back on to the wall when I need to use it. One thing I did notice when fitting, is that the wall plugs they supplied were too large for 6mm drill bit. they just bent when I tried to hammer them into the wall. I ended up using the Rawlplug 6mm plugs and they were fine.
The distance between my side wall and the back garden fence is about 5 metres so I put a second hook on the wall and run the line to the first hook and then back to a second hook that was placed around 3 metres to the side of the unit. This easily gave twice the line length if needed.
Erm...the keyhole slots in the mounting plate are there so you can just slip it on or off the wall in a second, you're not meant to tighten them right up when fitting.
@@ianclarke4182 Hi Ian.
I do realise that, but getting the screws in exactly the right position to be able to lift it on and off the wall is very hit and miss.
I was careful but it was still not going to work as intended as my drill holes were not spot on. I ended up taking the plate off of the unit by removing the rivets and using a long 5mm Allen key in the slot to hold the unit on the plate. That made it very easy to remove when needed.
I'd buy the Minky just because it's called Minky (Peter Sellars says "Hi") 😉
I use to dry my washing in a green house, so it is warmer in there, and the rain cannot get it wetr.
it's better to dry your washing out side, then you will not be making it damp indoors, I just leave the washing line, i situ, but have it, so that you can hoist it up a lot higher.
How high should the unit be from the ground? I'm 5ft8, what would you suggest?
I'd say about 8 foot high and get a ladder
The fault on them is the plastic underneath where you tighten it , after about a year it snaps and its scrap .
I end up buying a minky every year.
Exactly whats happened to mine... bit by bit and and another bit has just broken off (I have the double-line version).
A shame they don't do the Vileda with a double line.
But that is after about 10yrs.
@@Percival1919 you mean 10 months unless you don't use your washing line much .
@@yamyam3905 well I don't use it in the winter
Daniel, I read through comments on here and noticed you did not respond to any of those that asked questions. How sad. You start a channel to disseminate information and yet you do not honor that act by clarifying anything.
He hasn't replied because he died. May he RIP. 😢
@@siddiquemalik that would be a perfectly good explanation! Thank you for clarifying. 👍
@@April4YHWH yes, it is very sad. But you shouldn't criticise someone after they are dead. How can he respond when he is dead???? More importantly, do you know if there are any double double line versions of the model he recommended?
@@siddiquemalik I just found out from _your comment today_ that he’s passed away. I chose to leave my comment up to show that I’ve been informed and my question was answered. Thank you.
As for your “more importantly” question, I have no idea since I’ve stopped looking into this topic.
@@April4YHWH you sir are a hypocrite. You criticised a dead man for not replying but you haven't got the time to continue his legacy and find the answers to my question. You are dishonourably discharged from the TH-cam community
