  • Somali Pirates vs. US Navy. Somali Pirates Attack Wrong Ship delves into the perilous world of piracy off the coast of Somalia, where desperation drives men to the high seas, targeting ships for ransom. This documentary explores a fascinating scenario: what happens when Somali pirates, armed with rudimentary weapons, mistakenly confront a US Navy submarine? Through expert interviews, archival footage, and dramatic reconstructions, we uncover the origins of Somali piracy, tracing back to the aftermath of Somalia's 1991 collapse. As foreign vessels decimated local fish stocks, fishermen turned pirates, evolving from defenders of their waters into formidable adversaries on the open sea.
The film examines the audacious nature of these pirates, daring to challenge not just commercial vessels but military might, including the formidable presence of US navy ships. Through the lens of a hypothetical confrontation between a ragtag pirate skiff and a technologically superior US Navy submarine, we explore the potential outcomes of such an ill-fated encounter. The documentary further delves into the broader implications of piracy and naval defense strategies, highlighting the unlikely yet intriguing possibility of a clash with a narco sub-a semi-submersible used for smuggling drugs. #usnavy #submarine #pirates

When a nuclear submarine dives, it will not surface again until the cruise is over. It will only come close enough to the surface for periscopes or communication masts to be deployed. It is extremely rare for a sub to come to the surface unless signaled.
The only exception would be an emergency onboard the sub. With all the naval activity in the region help wouldn't be far away.
Subs are usually painted a dark color and very little of them actually raise above the ocean's surface so they would be very hard to spot
There is also very little reason for a submarine in that area of the world. With so many surface ships, which can deal with pirates, there is no reason for sending a sub into such congested waters.

No f*cking $hit there brother. I started this clip and saw your comment and had to post this…did NOT proceed with the video. You said it. I am a Navy veteran (STG2, found out in Sub school that I was claustrophobic during the damage control drill…and they rewrote my contract for surface sonar) and I am retired Army 1SG. I really wonder why someone makes these 100% implausible videos? “IF” anyone even attempted an unauthorized boarding of a Naval vessel, especially a Destroyer, Cruiser or Frigate, they would be the dumbest criminals on the planet. An analogy would be: someone decides they want some fully auto weapons. Decide the only way to get them would be to rob the “Arms Room” and while the entire unit happen to be cleaning their weapons that that time.

I'm a retired PHNSY WL-10 submarine sail system mechanic who helped to repair the USS Hartford in Bahrain. This boat was hit by a U.S. Troop Ship and it could not submerge. We were very worried that a terrorist group could attack so we had to mount machine guns on the sail, put in specialized equipment, and have two escort patrol boats follow it back to the East Coast. Most Submarines don't carry a lot of firearms so the normal defense if attacked by pirates is to submerge.

@rongillespie6003 - It couldn't be more obvious. I don't know if subs have deck guns these days but aside from that, they wouldn't waste a multimillion dollar missile or torpedo on a 20 foot skiff when all they have to do is dive. This is a ridiculous scenario.

Sometimes people are sorta ignorant and will try things hoping for the best. But...a submarine diving below a pirate boat and then doing an emergency blow would be a bad day for the pirate boat...but I doubt a submarine would even engage. The vessel is too valuable.

I guess this was supposed to be a joke. Why would a US Navy submarine even be transiting on the surface in an area like that? ALso nothing those pirates had for weapons could even damage the hull. The sub could also submerge and be gone like that.

  • @darko714
    @darko714 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

LOL! A Virginia Class boat is nearly 400' long, travels at 25 knots (28 mph - about the maximum speed of the pirates' fastest skiff), and can dive out of the pirates' reach on less than a minute's notice. The pressure hull, where the crew lives and works, is made of 3" thick high-strength steel, would barely be nicked by any weapon a pirate would have access to. The sub could simply out-run the pirates, dive, and never be seen again. If the ship's captain was in the mood, he could easily circle back and surface directly under the pirates' vessel, likely distroying it and dooming its crew. A Virginia class boat also contains 134 highly trained and disciplined enlisted men and officers. Besides dozens torpedos and cruise missiles, there's a locker full of small arms which are ordinarily intended to be used to defend the boat from unauthorized boarders while it's in port. If the captain (unwisely, but just for fun) decided he'd rather have a shootout with the pirates, he could station a couple of dozen sailors armed with machine guns and automatic rifles in the sail and on the deck, and see how close the buccaneers cared to approach before his men unleashed a fullisade of bullets -- punching a few dozen holes in their skiff and leaving a few of the pirates in need of medical attention.

I feel dumber for having watched this video. What's next, what happens when Somali pirates attack the International Space Station?

It takes some time to sail up to the International space stadion. And I doubt they have enough fuel.😂😂 So they probably gonna burn up when they enter the earth. So problem solved 😂

Absolute rubbish. Somali pirates are mainly a thing of the past. Yes you get Somali's "contracting" to Houthi's and Houthi pirates, not many certainly compared to past years. Somali pirates came out of the UN training SSO's, arming them and training them in those weapons (AK & RPG) then as the UN does it gets bored playing games and walked away. Then you had armed and trained Somali's with zero income, loads of weapons, ammunition and boats, didn't take an Einstein to figure out money! Attacking a submarine, yeah they're stupid and attack warships but, never a sub as they never would be able to! navy productions = bellend!

lol 😂this is true fantasy….a narco sub anywhere remotely close to Somalia is terribly lost and a long way from where they’re supposed to be…😂😂

No incentive to do that but if they encountered a sub on the surface and hit the sail with a surface to air missile it would not be good for the sub.

Pirate skiffs do not carry surface to air missiles, or any other kind for that matter. Also, why you use a surface to air missile on a submarine. Submarines are highly capable but they don't fly. The correct choice would be an anti-ship missile.

Hijacking a sub to use for modern day operation maybe their goal.
