Why the pin code?
Would be smarter to use the original payment method to release locker. By charging 0.00€ upon opening, and then capturing the truncated PAN, expiry date, and if available, the cardholder name, then hashing this into a "security code" that is assigned to the locker.
If payment was made with mobile banking app, by pre-paid voucher or by API, then capture the user ID or account ID by this method, and use it to release locker.
And as a last resort if the payment method does not allow identification of user, then allow user to select PIN.
It would be a more streamlined method as the user only have to present their original payment method to open the locker.
It could even ask the user upon presenting a recongnized payment method, if they want to open a locker they already renting, or rent another. And if they rent multiple lockers, then allow user to select the locker they want to open, and a "[+]" button to rent another locker.

Next to that, we offer a mobile app, barcode scanners, QR code readers, RFID chip readers, online reservation platforms, API integrations and more.
So depending on the use case, us and the client together make a choice on what user flow is most suitable for the application and type of end user.
