Great video(s)! I went to Rataje and did a similar walk myself 5 years ago, except I went from Rataje to Ledečko first and from there to Talmberk - Mrchojedy - Samopše - Sázava and back to Rataje. Of course back then I was still in shape 😅
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it. It is great to hear from a fellow wanderer. This expedition definitely gave me pause for thought about my 'shape' 🤣 Next stop Sassau!
great vids!!! Viewers please don't judge the people of the Czech Republic for not taking proper care of their historical landmarks (as can be seen in your Rataje video), as many of them are in catastrophic condition. This is largely due to the Russian occupation era when they were often left to decay, sometimes beyond the point of restoration. After the revolution and the regime change, Czechs have been making efforts to save their heritage. However, it's a matter of priorities, and we are focusing on preserving key elements before addressing secondary ones.
Really glad you enjoyed the video. I hope it didn't come across as negative. It is just a fact of life. Old places are hard to maintain. I can't tell you how many amazing places have been ruined and knocked down in my town alone because they fell in to a state of disrepair. Castles too rarely survive, they became too expensive and pointless to maintain. A relic of an old world and good building material for the new one. I thought the area was beautiful, I honestly came away with no negatives.
@@stepthroughhistory Not negative at all. It is cool that foreigners are interested in seeing less attractive places :-) Prague is overcrowded by tourists :-)
@@stepthroughhistory the sad thing is that around the river Sázava are a lot of castles like this - Zbořený Kostelec, Stará Dubá, Chřenovice. But of course there are also preserved castles around Sázava like Český Šternberk
These videos are brilliant man, really stumbled on a treasure trove with this channel! Huge fan of KCD and your presenting style is so chill - really looking forward to the next instalment/livestream :)
Amazing episode! That was really enjoyable! I feel for you as a ginger man! The things I'm disappointed about are that you weren't assaulted by bandits or challenged with a sign saying 'you are in a private area!' how can it be a KCD experience without that?! :)
Cheers, a little part of me did hope I could get a genuine bandit experience but then I probably wouldn't have had a camera to show you all 🤣 My preparation for this (as if you can't tell) was almost zero, it mostly involves drinking beer in Prague. Next stop sassau (my favourite so far)
