1:52 So a Polish dev making a game set in German speaking lands (I think) writes a game with as much Frenchlish as he can and then makes the plebs speak English. Truly a diverse experience.
@@xSoulhunterDKx I'd be wary of being too broad there, though I do think you're broadly right to say that, at least by, say, the 1300-1400's, England stood out in Europe (though I don't know enough about eastern Europe at that time) when it came to investing in bowmen. There should 100% be crossbows in this game (there will be, don't worry) though; but I'm wondering how he's going to balance it. As far as I can tell, irl, the only real strengths that crossbows had over bows was that 1) someone with no training can learn to shoot powerful crossbows very quickly 2) crossbows *might* be better for shooting down from structures like castles. He could find ways of fitting that into the game, which could be cool. With a game like Manor lords he could even make that realistic and fun
@@tommeakin1732 Overall yes you are correct in your assumptions. As i'm sure you probably know, the main reason English long bowmen were so effective is because they trained from young ages to shoot the bow, and could fire off many more shots than a man with a crossbow could. This proved especially useful in battle such as King Henry V''s battle at Agincourt. Overall, crossbows are often a much better and cheaper choice, although they can be heavy. The crossbows take a while to load, however once loaded, an archer could pop up above the wall, take aim and fire, however having your men get tired while firing volleys of arrows is much less preferred to having your soldiers able to launch relatively precise bolts from a crossbow. Atop castle walls, (And this is perhaps where game play could come into effect), crossbows were much preferred over bows, because Bows typically can fire long range well, while short range the accuracy and rate of fire can dramatically decrease. Not to mention atop the walls bows often could be difficult to maneuver. Crossbows were great at shorter ranges, and well fit to be maneuverable, which along with not much training, relatively cheap costs, while still packing a punch made the crossbow so much more popular, especially in Non-English Europe Both are great, and if Manor Lords receives a castle update, I would hope we could switch our soldiers to be outfitted with bows or crossbows, each having significant benefits and drawbacks. @@Locahaskatexu Yes, Italian noble families used towers to show their power and influence, and they didn't really like when someone built a bigger tower. Just because i grew as a farmer... 2:36 YES @Nano, rain forest are BAD for farming. Rainforest soil is typically poor in nutrients and minerals because they are stored in the plants. When plants die, they decay very quickly and their nutrients are picked up again by the living vegetation. Nutrient cycling occurs rapidly in rainforests, leading to poor soils.
Non-tropical forests can indeed have thick, rich soils and the game is probably not depicting a rain forest in medieval times, so it depends. While the soils are poor under tropical forests, cutting and burning them usually gives a couple years of decent crop growth plus the one-time timber sell. Thus, growing families cut down more forest each year until it's gone. The Amazon will not last another human lifetime; decades or centuries of conservation can be undone in 3 years so all you need is one bad politician to ruin it all and destroy indigenous communities as well (see current Brazil).
