A Walk on the Wolds - Peggy Farrow the Witch and other stories
Join me as I take a walk on the Yorkshire Wolds and share some paranormal tales with you as I go on a journey to a lane that the locals believe is haunted by a witch.
It is something a little different (don't worry there will be lots more medieval stories to come) and I hope you enjoy.
I may return with my camera during the witching hour to see if we can catch on camera any ghostly goings on and wicked witchery...watch this space!!

This story takes us from the formation of England to the Harrying of the North. With the help of a Saint and the giving of a gift, Athelstan will bring the lands of East Riding in to the control of the 'English'. Over a century later and William the Conqueror, seemingly unstoppable, continues to cement his rule in England leaving areas of the north unable to sustain a rebellion...or life itself...

This is the story of Aldfrith of Northumbria, a largely unknown King, but one I feel deserves more attention. Since writing this tale I have continued to research this topic and adding the new information to what is found in this video. That's fine for the incredibly small number of people who choose to revolt. Waltheof did in this period and lost his head in the end. The vast majority don't have any choice or power in this but suffer the most appalling consequences anyway.

Had Harold not had to fight at Stamford Bridge less than three weeks earlier and had William not fallen from his horse and wrongly thought to have been killed, he would have lost for certain. A bit like those early computer circuit boards with a micro sized picture placed on it or that weirdo surgeon who Lasered his initials on patients internal organs during operations (maybe less so). Although it reminds me of that quite, 'nothing useless can be truly beautiful', that was William Morris I think.

      @stepthroughhistory ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it 😊 As for Deira it's a tricky one, firstly I intent to do a pre and post Roman video of the area. I did do one as my first ever video but it was horrific in so many ways and now long gone thankfully 😂 as for it as an Anglo Saxon kingdom it's history is short and not well documented. It wasn't long before it merged with bernicia to form Northumbria. It often could be annexed to another kingdom like Mercia or sometimes given by a Northumbrian king to a son as a sub king type situation. I'm not sure if you have seen it but It does come up a fair bit in my recent Edwin video, it might also feature in my Aldfrith video too. So I guess the answer is yes it will be covered even more in time but indirectly.....and I have no idea how to pronounce it. I've picked a version but I've heard many variations. I think it's one of the few Anglo Saxon realms that took its name from the previous occupants, along with bernicia and Kent.
