- At UFC 276, Israel Adesanya looks to defend his middleweight title against Jared Cannonier in the pay-per-view main event. In the co-main event, Alexander Volkanovski will aim to defeat Max Holloway a third time and defend his featherweight strap. Also on the card is a middleweight contest between top contenders Sean Strickland and Alex Pereira, a welterweight bout featuring Robbie Lawler and Bryan Barberena as well as a bantamweight contest between Sean O'Malley and Pedro Munhoz.

And unnecessarily long promos right before the fights, like the main event and co-main.

Obviously one of the reasons Izzy hasn’t hit that next level of popularity has to do with his “safe” style of fighting, but it’s also do to a lot of pre fight bravado that can’t be backed up. Coming out to the Undertakers theme and saying your going to knockout your opponent, only to edge them out with your jab and leg kick game isn’t going to win you a ton of fans period.

Even tho I’m a fan of Izzy still and glad he won, you’re correct. I feel like he holds back where I’d love to see him give it his all and go all out like he did against Gastelum. It seems like he was more aggressive on the come-up and willing to mix it up with more urgency. I hope we get another performance like that out of him

Volkanovski truly just leveled up after that last Holloway fight. So many people would get phased by all the ''Max really won that fight'' narrative that was there, but not Volk. He went and just found that champion confidence and he looked like a full on world beater here today. Good for him.
I would have bet my house on Max Holloway winning. I didn't think Volkanovski was big enough, with enough reach to do damage on Max. Max seemed determined to win, and he won the 2nd fight. I'm glad I didn't bet on this one. Volk is a beast.

Volk also landed the harder shots, so he had volume and power on his side, that’s why he won the effective striking category for the last three rounds, there is no denying it. After rewatching it’s clear, even in the first two rounds it was very even except for the knockdowns, but Volk got straight up and fired back.

He is simply better, although given how close their last fight was in comparison to the lopsided clinic he just put on, it's worth wondering if Max has declined a bit in addition to Volk's improvement. We'll only know when we see him against someone else. I don't think anyone's denying Alex's greatness at this point.

card flopped. from o malley and the main event especially. at least Alex vs sean Strickland was sick, next we will get to see the double champ of glory possible beat Adesanya for the 3rd time, ouch. Izzy was only able to make it to a challenger position in glory kickboxing whereas Alex Pereira became champion in two weight classes and will now get the title bout next in UFC too, guy is so powerful and fun to watch.

People underestimate Volk’s size, he is short and stocky but with a long reach, so tall fighters have to lean in to reach him and they don’t expect to be countered, then they get smacked with a one two over the top. Add in the speed and power and you got one tough nut to crack at 145, at 155 he will have tougher challenges because the skill and size difference.

When I was watching Alex and Sean fighting, I thought Alex read the style of fighting choice (inside, let's go type closeness), and thought "ok, gimme a second to find the right shot". When I saw Sean go down, I thought "well, there you go. He just waited for an opening for the left hand". Look at all of Alex's shots. He literally made it look like he was inviting (or obliged) him in.
You spent far too long talking about such a boring main event. People are tired after these shows man. If it's a boring fight keep it short and sweet just like Izzy says.
I’m surprised at all the negative comments about Luke. I feel like he was just being himself but was amped up by the crowd and alcohol. Lol we literally asked for that! He’s a washed frat-star and there was some cringey moments...but overall it was a hilarious episode. I’m looking forward to watching BC roast Luke about it for all eternity.

Is it fair to say that champions with a significant reach advantage and/or great length will just generally do more point fighting? I mean volk and usman have had more battles in their title defenses because they have less of a choice. They cant just jab/kick sporadically and move around like adesanya or rose. Schevchenko isnt exactly long but shes an exception to this rule as she can keep distance superrrr well.
Izzy simply doesn't work towards the finish. Obviously we all want to see the Pereira fight, but otherwise, every other potential fight is pretty meh to me. No more comparisons to Silva. That ship has sailed.
It's not just about not going for the finish I like colby's fights. However it's the fact that izzy is not making a BIG seperation with his opponents he outpoints them BARLEY to get decision wins when he should be DOMINATING
Volkanovski's team knew he was much quicker than Max, and were confident with the strategy they employed, and that was for Volk to continually move into Max's power hand side. A big no no in most coaches strategy, yet they had enough confidence in Volk's abilities. Volk would kick, jab, and move to his left expecting Max to throw his right which was then met with a some Volk head movement by Volk, and immediate counter combinations. Max knew he was slower very early into the fight, and persisted with the straight forward movement with very little footwork when coming in. Ive been following Volk since day one of his entry into MMA, and knew many would underestimate him. Made a hell of a lot of money over the last 7 years..

there is no excuse for the main event being this lackluster, blame should be put on both fighters but more on izzy at this point. Guy makes all these claims about shining like a diamond and going to KO Cannonier only for him to do the usual leg kick and jab style of his. Co main was a technical fight between two pound-for-pound fighters, Izzy was fighting a heavyweight who lost weight...

Izzy beat the hardest puncher in the division with a great coach in his corner. They had a good game plan and Izzy still outclassed him with barely getting hit clean in the head.

I respect the fact that no one can seem to get it done against him (although Whittaker was super duper close), but that doesn't mean I have to enjoy watching him fight. He clearly had a serious skill gap over Cannonier, he should be trying to finish guys like that. He just doesn't even seem to be really trying. He knows he can just squeak out boring close-ish rounds with leg kicks and poking from the outside, so he takes zero risks. Sure, Cannonier didn't take enough risks either, but that just isn't the kind of fight that I like to watch. It wasn't even a high paced, super technical chess match. It just seems like every Izzy fight is the Silva Maia fight. No wonder people were leaving early.

I thought it was 1-1 going into the trilogy. Only reason people don't appreciate Alex is because Max is still around, and it actually doesn't matter if someone else than Alex was the champ, people would still favor Max to become the champ and like him the most. And it doesn't help either with Alex having no charisma, and much of a fun personality... But a brilliant fighter overall. Gotta appreciate them both.

It's interesting to compare Kamaru, who has been called a boring fighter for long streches of his career, to Izzy, who was called an exciting one for a long time.
Izzy has gone as many times to a decision as Kamaru in the UFC
Kamaru has more knockouts than izzy, who lands significantly less strikes, is less accurate and gets hit more than Kamaru.
Kamaru has 2 hours of control time to Adesanya's 3 and a half minutes, so even with 2 hours of wrestling Kamaru accomplished more with his striking than Izzy.
A lot of those strikes attributed to Usman are ground and pound strike, which is not 'striking' in the way we all think of it as, so no he's not done more with his striking than izzy

To me Strickland only has the good jab. But he couldn't jab because Alex was constantly backing away/circling and then when Strickland tried to close the distance stepping with the jab, he'd kick his leg, so Strickland was left just jabbing from too far away all the time or just walking forwards trying to get close enough, so Alex was then free to pick shots with his hands.
Sean always reaches to his opponent as a defense (Alex did this against Bruno Silva too, but he does it differently and properly frames), and he paid for it here with that hook.
Strickland needs to add more dimensions to his game, one weapon isn't enough - way too easy to shut down his offense.
Watch his fight vs usman, it shows that he's not a championship material.

Huge fan of Izzy, to me he’s one of the coolest &, unique fighters inside and out of the ring. However he is at Tier 2 in terms of star power, for him to break into that top tier of star, he has to be putting on exciting performances. The undertaker ring walk only works if you ice the guy you’re fighting. He deserves criticism for another pretty boring fight.
I thought Izzy actually brought the fight it was Cannonier that seemed scared to engage. Sometimes the knock out just isn’t there
