Sounds lame af but I used to listen to every episode of the MMA Beat on my way to work and thinking back to that reminds me of the simpler times how much has changed since then. Still love the Luke and BC duo of course, but seeing Chuck on here (and on occasion, Danny) always makes me happy
Luke is being so dismissive of Pantoje LOL insane, beating Kape-Royval-and then Perez instantly is a sick run
He’s always been very dismissive of men’s flyweight in general.

I'm Aussie so I love this event. Volk, Whittaker and JDM on one card is a treat. That said, it feels like this card should have been the September (Sydney) card. Weird choice to have these guys all fight in July with an Australia ppv not far off
They are hoping Rob runs through DDP and turn him around for Izzy in September.

Is this Rob fanboys way of coping? Whittaker is 0-2 and isn't a star, he literally has no leverage to do this and will be forced to rematch Izzy. Dana/UFC brass don't want Whittaker as a champ anyway. He does 0 promotion, fights once a year and hasn't finished a fight in 6 years.

I still don't see what relevance this has to Whittaker. This is clearly some cope. Pereira will retire a legitimate champ whilst Rob was only interim LOL.

I have to completely agree with Chuck here. A decade ago anyone who went to the UFC expo knew they were part of something big and you met the best fans there. I met mma hardcores there I still speak to. I even end up hanging out with Chuck. Anyway the whole thing just felt like this pilgrimage hardcores took to Vegas. Doesn’t feel that way anymore, maybe it’s because the sport and the fans have changed. Either way I hope everyone going has a blast. War Yair!
The sport hasn’t. The fans have, but that’s the end result of UFC’s modern marketing strategy. They know they will always have the diehards to count on for revenue in some way shape or form…. even if it’s YT clicks and subscriptions for the social media ad revenue. Their modern marketing strategy has been primarily focused on appealing to casuals and newer fans. The UFC also knows that a lot of diehards may have a difficult time affording being able to attend live events now with the way UFC ticket prices and travel prices etc. have skyrocketed. The UFC knows that there’s probably a larger percent of the casuals/newer fans market who have the surplus capital to afford spending the money required to still attend live events.
@7:10 Gotta dead wrong BC. UFC 248 (Izzy/Romero) was the last “normal” card in front of a live crowd before the pandemic, March 2020. It couldn’t be an international fight week card because it was in March, correct?

Well this card is their 4th of July / International Fight Week card, so every year this is basically their biggest event
I think they are projecting the lack of views on their own content relating to the event. Its a big card none the less

But also, I agree with what they were saying. Without a ‘big name’ headliner fight like they used to do (Conor, Brock, Jones, GSP) this event doesn’t feel as big as some past years
@@Day-ZDukeif you actually look up the history of IFW card, they all sort of never deliver. For s good while the main events would be cursed and the cards would lose key fights.
@@gilbertoflores7397 ya I agree man, and I definitely remember how many fights they used to lose to injury as well. But yes like the DC v Jones & Conor v Nate were 2 of the bigger main events to be lost
However, IFW used to just be ‘bigger’ overall. They had those years where they would have 2 or 3 events even during that week. And also the Saturday PPV card would have the top 3 fights on the card all be with ‘name brand’ fighters, so to speak
It seems like they have strayed from that, possibly due to the fact that they hold so many events now as well, the talent is stretched thinner. But I’m a long time fan, Ive been watching basically every event since UFC 64, and I had seen many before that too. It’s just around 2005 ish I became fully hardcore. Lol

I'm certainly no UFC defender, and granted I am a "hardcore" fan - but dang I'm really excited for this card, every main card bout is interesting and that's more than can be said about most cards this year
The Jones card was completely stacked too. And a few others ones had bangers on the card, they just under delivered, which most stacked card end up doing.

Never thought I would say this, but the guys are beginning to sound a lot like the people over @ MMAFighting. Seems like they just get together to just talk mad shit. This card is amazing and you really couldn’t do much more to put together a deeper card. This is still my favorite combat sports program, but they are just becoming a bit tougher to listen to them bitch constantly week after week.
It's easy to do because they live in an echo-chamber of agreement where none of their takes are ever pushed back on. It's becoming borderline cult-ish. There's plenty of legitimate criticism to levy towards Dana & the UFC but the negative hyperbole is definitely getting annoying. I'm still watching but disliking every episode I watch.

Love these ones with Chuck. BC always the the Aldo hater. If you count WEC (which you should), then Aldo has more title defenses than Conor, Max and Volk combined. 19 fight win streak, 10 of which were title fights, it's still Aldo for the moment. Of course Volk is brilliant and he could get there. But he's not there yet. Stomp jumping the gun, BC.
Max beat Aldo clean twice, and Volk beat Aldo and Max both clean. Why on earth should Aldo be ahead of Volk at this point?

I think the reason khamzat isn’t in the middleweight picture as of yet is because the ufc is trying to squeeze all the juice they can out of Adesanya as a headlining champ and star. Chimaev will be champion one day one way or another. It’s looming and he’s a bad match up for izzy. Visa issues may play a part, but they are slowly playing it out. That’s why they pushed for 170 so hard with Chimaev so there’s no conflict.

UFC needs this fight week to be BIGGER. Not many “Super Bowls” for this sport every other year.
Didn’t buy the PPV as I’m actually more hyped for the prelims. The prelim matches should feature more violence and finishes, particularly Lawler vs Price. I see mostly decisions in the main card and fights that shouldn’t even be that competitive. The best looking match on the MC in my eyes isn’t even the main or co-main, but I’m not paying the $75 for Whittaker vs du Plessis. I’m also pumped for Turner vs Hooker. If they threw Nickal a real opponent, that may have sold me on the main card. I would love to see Islam put on some weight or Nickal drop a lot of weight so that match could happen unless they agree on a catch weight match, otherwise I would like to see Nickal tested against Khamzat
Maybe don't tape these so far in advance to have a more relevant conversation about Volk/Yair and Topuria

He never said anything about race or being a real African (his coach did okay but DDP hasn’t) Izzy made it racial by bringing up certain things and so did Usman by insinuating that DDP isn’t really African
I feel like comments like this are either dense or not fully educated on the topic.
1) DDP was the first one to insinuate Usman/Izzy/Francis aren't real African champions. Him later saying he didn't was backtracking. You can find it online. HE was the first person to start this narrative.
2) Race is part of the conversation from the get go, and he's old enough to realise why as a white man living in a post apartheid South Africa. Izzy isn't the one "making it racial", the conversation is racial to begin with.

To say Volk is better than Aldo so confidently means you should probably look back and study some of Aldo's fights. I'm not completely against the idea that Volk is better, just against the disregard for Aldo's skill level in comparison. The guy was as close to perfection as we've had in the octagon, IMO.

bc, your point on du plessis would be valid if the ufc was going to give him a title shot win or lose. if he beats whittaker, that's the fight that earns him the title shot, that's the best win you can have in the division other than over izzy himself.
I'm honestly not impressed by Yair, I don't thin he's improved much, I knew the Max fight was a good match up because of Yair's kick heavy game, so that performance wasn't shocking, what is shocking is how bad his TDD still is.

Made me reassess the drawing power/popularity of Makhachev.
He doesn’t get the credit he deserves as one of the most popular fighters in the sport currently.

I went to a Bellator event in thackerville Oklahoma a few years ago. I ran into Gilbert Melendez and his wife in the elevator. Robbie lawler was at the event, he looked like he didn’t even wanna be there as the guest. Near the end I ran up and got a picture with him, as soon as people recognized him he walked right out. Also realized they seem much bigger on tv.
I met tj dillashaw at bellator in thackerville. He was so tiny it was surreal to see how much smaller these fighters are in real life
