I brought so much “hurry culture” as you call it into my home after I left the corporate world that I’m only now learning to slow down, be present with my children, to bring calm in as opposed to the chaos of constant expectations, and enjoy the simplicity of our days together. There’s so much unlearning to be done as a millennial woman who bought the feminist narrative and went along with it until quite recently! Thank you for these wise words.
Same here! Fellow millennial who had a professional job as a CPA and it’s a struggle! I find myself constantly watching the clock and trying to hurry up. Hurry up cleaning, hurry up my toddler to eat faster, just everything hurried. It’s hard to change.
Lovely lesson as always. You are wise beyond your years. And I know the Bible says the older women teach the younger yet you are younger and teach us all. I am almost 64 and love your videos. Your honesty. Your beauty that surrounds you. You are very genuine and that makes for a sweet visit, every time. 😊 Thank you.
Fantastic that you highlighted how being on the go all the time as a homemaker can create a negative atmosphere in the home too. I love to sit and relax in the garden too. It didn't come naturally to me but once you see the positive impact on the household, it's hard to go back. I now see myself as a Household Guardian of Peace and Happiness - the best job I've ever had!
Amen, I love that Household Guardian of Peace and Happiness- that's beautiful and inspiring! I also love that you said "it didn't come naturally" how for some, it is a process of learning how to rest!!
I have chills. I JUST had a conversation with my husband about what you describe in this video. I quit my job a few months ago to be a home maker and homeschool our kids. This phenomenon you describe is spot on. Thank you for validating my experience. Praying for you from Canada.
Giving this a like literally one minute into it 😂 I brought the hurry home with me and I'm still recovering. But by God's grace it is getting better. 💕
This message was such perfect timing for me. Praise God and thank you, Kelli. ❤😌 I was not a pleasant wife/woman to be around when I was more "productive" from a worldly standpoint. Our home is truly such a different (better!) place since I removed the work stress, in particular.
My late father used to tell me to slow down and smell the roses. At 52, I understand what he was saying. He was telling me to stop and take in every aspect of the rose. Enjoy the texture of the leaves and petals. Savior the fragrance of the rose. So I say this to all those who are in the hustle and bustle: "Slow down and smell the roses." Donald C. Smith, my late father.
Thank you for your reminder to go about our days at a slower pace! I am one who LOVE TO MAKE LISTS of things to do and even what was done. I see the list and go for it. I have 13 children that have ALWAYS HAD A BUSY MUM. The a Lord spoke to me through you today. Tomorrow, no list. Enjoy each things He puts in my hand to do. Thank you for allowing the Lord to speak through you!
I'm so thankful it was helpful and I can also imagine how lists can be helpful too! But I hope you're having a fun day today! and I also love that you have 13 children and I pray that your comment is seen and is an encouragement to so many that children are a blessing!
You should try farmhouse on Boones creamy peach chicken recipe. I tweaked it to adding dried thyme while cooking. It’s so good and the perfect summer recipe.
I sat down with a cup of your green Roobois ice tea to listen to your vlog; you have such a soothing voice that 1/2 way through fell asleep!😂 I listened to it again in it’s entirety. Such words of wisdom. I often find myself justifying my day to my husband or hopping up out of the chair when he gets home so I look busy. My friends and I discussed this as they do the same. We are older so maybe a generational thing?? The funny thing is our husbands really don’t care how we spend our days. 😊 Garden looks great, thanks for sharing your day!
hahaha ah that's great! And iced green rooibos sounds so refreshing right now, it's HOT and humid here! And yes, I so relate to what you say- especially "our husbands don't really care how we spend our days" that is so true, I have had to learn I don't need to justify my time to Scott, he trusts me! I hope you have a lovely rest of your day!
I enjoy the lessons in homemaking and life you teach. I'm also enjoying seeing more of your home and garden in the videos, which is so inspiring and beautiful.
Thank you so much for the encouragement! I agree that slowing down is so important for our health and spiritual perspective. I also enjoyed the tour of your beautiful garden. 😊
Intentional and Purposeful Living really does hit the spot. I was a hurrier for sure and have slowed down immensely, my mind and heart are much better for it. Loved this video Sis. Kelli! ❤
In a World of so much noise and chaos, your videos are such a breath of fresh air. It's like talking with a dear friend as we putter about our chores. And my goodness I needed that reminder of a contentious wife 😅💕
Oh my goodness Kelli, I still do that with my husband. I know how valuable he thinks my work here is on top of homeschooling, but even so at times I’ll feel that need to share my list. There’s nothing wrong with us sharing obviously, but my fear behind it, isn’t good.
This is all very true. Many times the Lord just calls me to sit down and be still - in that I find peace. The rushing does no good for our spirit or bodies but it so hard to not rush!
Thank you for this video as I really needed to hear this. I’m 24 and became a homemaker with no kids a little over a year ago from working fast food. It was a shock to my system. I would get anxiety whenever I had any sort of free time and would force myself to not sit down until my husband came home from work. I was constantly trying to prove myself worthy of being a homemaker and cram as much into one day as I could, not enjoying the process of doing any of those things. I do still struggling with it to this day and am praying for the Lord to help me conquer it.
Thank you for this! Four years after leaving the workforce and starting to homeschool my children, I am still learning how to slow down. It's been extra challenging because my parents were always "if you aren't busy, you aren't productive" people (my dad still is and fighting retirement!). We're moving soon, and I think it's going to be a good opportunity to reset myself in this respect.
Yes, it really does take time to get out of that cycle! And I hope your move goes great and I agree, it's the perfect time to create new habits in a new space!!
Thank you for such a peaceful video. This was so simple, but so beautiful. I struggled with rushing when I became a homemaker. My husband needed a calmer atmosphere, so I had to learn to be peaceful then frantic. Not perfect, but learning :)
Walking by faith day by day Kellie! Your videos help me keep going through all the tears and rough patches, your life has been a shinning light to me thank you again for all you do for us 💕 Liza
Good morning Kelli! The garden is looking so beautiful and lush. I too am waiting for the day tomatoes are ready to be processed. As always a peaceful video of encouragement. God Bless You.
Enjoy your videos so much!!! Your yard and garden look beautiful. On slow living my friend went to Zambia last year that’s where he grew up and he said there is no rushing anything there it’s just a very slow culture. He said while he was there he had zero stress and just enjoyed being with his family and revisiting his childhood home and neighborhood. Hope you and your husband have a wonderful rest of the week 😊
Thank you for the reminder to slow down. Even at my young age of 54, daily permission to do this is necessary. I agree that the frenetic culture we live in could contribute to discontented behavior or a contentious woman. I hope what I share can bless you and others here. I'm continually training in (and it is my life experience in my home) dealing with trauma- and mental illness-informed communication. There is a need to define and differentiate "contentious woman" from the woman who is having arguments/conflicts with her spouse and/or child(ren) in order to set boundaries, resolve problems, etc. Learning the skills for speaking and *listening* to each other effectively is critical to maintaining peace in the home, which means there will be emotions that don't feel peaceful at times, sometimes for a considerable span of time in the "growing pains" stages. It's good for children to witness their parents learning and using appropriate ways to argue. It takes cooperation and hard work from all involved. If anyone in the home struggles with trauma (PTSD) or mental health issues (depression, anxiety, etc.) or learning disabilities, or any number of other challenges, then more education (possibly professional counseling) is required among family members in order to maintain healthy communication and peace. I felt this "contentious woman" issue needed to be clarified, feeling a caution in my spirit when that part was mentioned in your video. There is no guilt or sin in having arguments (contentions) in order to arrive together at addressing and resolving problems, even ones that may be the result of our frenetic culture! Whereas the contentious woman referenced in Proverbs is one who argues incessantly for the sake of enjoying arguing, having no goals to resolve problems, rather casting blame instead! Men can be contentious too.
I've heard this from older videos but I keep having to relearn it haha. It is hard to imagine a life where I won't be trying to prove how productive I am, to "justify" myself? Thank you for always sharing your wisdom and reminding us
Your videos have given me so much to chew on lately. I find myself often stopping to reevaluate myself because of something you said or a scripture you read and reminded me of. I appreciate you so much and wanted to remind you of the difference you are making 😊
I really enjoy your content! You wouldn't happen to know any single men around the age of 30 who want a helpmeet and homemaker would you? I know someone who is ready to be married but has not seen a man who thinks the same about Biblical roles and wants to commit to marriage.
I read a book called "Crazy Busy" a few months ago on this very subject. I was feeling frazzled from being so busy and guilty if I wasn't. This little book was a blessing to me. Your video was also blessing to me and a good reminder! I'm a wife and mom of 9, so learning to slow down isn't easy but worth the rest in my soul. How would you reconcile the verse that talks about redeeming the time because the days are evil? I think I used to take this verse as meaning we need to be busy. Now I see if more as slow and steady but still productive.
I know you shop a lot of thrift, but where did you get your precious linen dress you are wearing? I haven’t finished this video yet so you might mention it further along 😂
I got if from Marshalls years ago and it's my favorite dress! But @pohm677 is right, it's a very simple pattern. I'm actually going to try to make some based off it with a few different fabrics I have so maybe I'll video it and show what it looks like!
Love this Kelli! I looked at your rooibis tea shop and noticed you live in the mid west now.... I thought you two were in Chattanooga Area? I was hoping for your source for peaches as I am in NW Georgia. Many blessings and thank you for the upick links.
Story of my life: I have always been someone who takes things slow, but steady. The thing I was always told is, that I need to hurry up. In school, at home, at work. Last year, I had a job, and one of my bosses there worked like a maniac (there is no other word for this). I am worried, that this will be detrimental to his health.
What a blessing this has been your normal! And it's really not enjoyable being around people who radiate chaos and stress, so I can only imagine the atmosphere there.
@@homewithkelli it has its positives, and negatives. The positives are apparent, you talk about them plenty. Hi, I know that God wants there to be different roles for men and women and modern day society does look down at feminity/tradwives. However, any perspective of women who do have careers such as midwives, doulas, etc? I know Christians shouldn't go to college in general because of wordly unbiblical views.
