been playing this all day at my office in Manhattan. 50/50 joking/serious, good luck to the old folks out there, fo real. this shit is about to get BAD come next weekend. god bless.
me too andy , they fucking smashed it man!! i`ve seen ALOT of live bands in my time and i really don`t think it`s been bettered , just wish i were 27 again not 47!!
Someone not afraid to be close to his fans. Sure, security close by, but he knows people just want to make another connection. The touch is a very powerful way to communicate, learn, show we care (plenty of negative ways of course). I'm also sure that it worked both ways, he got energy from those people, felt the connection.
I honestly think that I can name 50 different rock/metal singers who do this in EVERY SINGLE CONCERT (still today). Every time I go to a festival-type of concert I see like 10 different bands doing this. Not to take anything away from their experience, just saying that is not that uncommon.
With the Covid19 virus crisis I"m in voluntary isolation and dancing in the house to THIS song. Glad to see I'm not the only one. I really do feel fine!
Eminem couldn't even rap this fast he said he tried and it was impossible he named Michael a lyrical genius and best thing to happen to music industry since autotune
This was the last song we did at karaoke with friends before wishing everyone a happy New Year going into 2020. Who could've guessed it was actually the end of the world as we knew it?
Simply awesome. Felt great with the world ending in 1988 video with the kid skateboarding in the video. 30 yrs later r.e.m still makes the end of the world feel fine!!
Writers, musicians and artists write a song knowing in the generation of the polulation they speak to is understanding a segment of time when this song was written...ironiclly the song has many channels describing the artist who wrote the song unkowing the future....proves this song lives through many generations of knowing and the unknowing of our present and future...Good Art.
This song has such a buzz about it - had the pleasure of hearing live twice, never gets old. The world was a better place when the band were are their peak 👍
With a title like this song has,it and another called Radio Free Europe got me through a very long Hospital stay due to Anorexia Nervosa in the 80's,where music was definitely more on my menu than facing food, nourishment and nutrients.
I saw them Manchester in '99 when they played this pete buck's rickenbacker was cutting out as they really got us all bouncing. They tried playing it again but no joy that beautiful ricky went flying across the stage! Stipe stood on a monitor and sang suspicious minds as the techies did their thing . I d love to see that posted .amazing nite amazing gig.
Bit late to comment but I was there too, it was a class moment! Showed how tight they were to be able to do that, the transition was so smooth and totally entertaining! Those that just know them for the mandolin and bongo stuff of the early 90's don't realise how much of a fast and loud rock and roll band they were, that could rock harder than many of their "heavier" contemporaries. Best rock band of my lifetime for sure

I listened to an interview Michael Stipe gave recently and he was asked if it was the end if the world. He said "no, its a reset." Beautiful, hopeful message. I love him, got to hear R.E.M. in the early 1980's
It really is the end of the world as we know it. Greeting from SW Germany where everything is at a standstill. It's creepy and scary but... I am not sure if I feel fine but a bit resigned and maybe a little redeemed;) Not really sure. I have had this song in my head since yesterday, ein Ohrwurm!! God Bless. Stay safe and stay home.

Sheesh .. this has been stuck in head all afternoon .. and watching this Glastonbury performance sure brings things to light .. Life before 'social distancing' .. not sure we're ever going to fully recover from this aspect of the virus .. Anyone else feel we're always going to be a little more selective and hesitant when it comes to handshaking, hugging and kissing now???
With the Covid19 virus going rampant, this song popped into my head. Heres hoping we are all fine.
Me also and I'm a 78yr old rocker gma

Dear R E M... Please come back.. best wishes, the entire world!
It would take a comet to get R.E.M. back together.
Maybe I’m an old man but so great no phones and also no annoying flags. And a great version.

He is talking about distractions morons, not saying that phones are bad.
What about a Flag with a phone on it?
The Brits showed us in the 60s ... The Yankees reciprocated in the 90s ... God bless our brothers and sisters across the pond.

It was impressive that he was able to move that much with a wired mic
Great singer and band.
I just realized it now!!! Great!
The problem is his hand over the "globe" of the mic ahahhaha
And the fans are touching him
Have you seen Matt from The National? Will we ever see the likes of these again?
The amount of positive energy that both singer and public exchanged was amazing they both touched each other it's was an unforgettable moment...
Back in the years when Glastonbury was good
😢
Finally! So it's not just me, then?
Saw this twice live. Can't believe how effortlessly he sings this song. I've tried it, but can't. Stipe is just amazing! R.E.M. for ever!

Truth!
It became just another song for them.Which is amazing, considering how difficult it is to even try and cover it !

It was a different time back then. In the 90s all was good.
It gave me goosebumps. That was extremely cool of him to share himself like that.
