I miss there being quality massive bands like these. Today it’s all about solo stars with big production numbers. No more do we get groups of musicians with original ideas. No more outsiders, weirdos and people with poetic souls.
I'm sure there are some out there. Buried by todays crap.
they are there - on the street corners - bars - cafe's - you gotta weed through - but they are there... and it's FREE
Before I die, I intend to change that, god willing.
These guys are the absolute pinnacle of what music should be. They have brought so much joy to my life growing up (I'm almost 33). They never EVER change the way the song is, but keep it as close to the record as possible.
Michael Stipe and Mike Mills are honestly two of the greatest vocalists in history in my opinion. Today's artists are so focused on auto tune and breakup songs or singing about getting off guts on the weekends to even remotely come close about selling great music.
R.E.M, thank you so so much from the very bottom of our hearts for bringing us such incredible music. We love you guys so much.
Michael does use a bit of impov somethimes, but his singing is just so damn perfect. Saw them 3 times in Ireland. Best gig was Marley Park 2003. Venue was perfect.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Great comment, agree.
Stipe jumped around a lot even with a wired mic. Very impressive.
GOD i love them so much. michael's energy in this makes me so happy =)
i wish i could have had the opportunity to see them live for myself but i'm so very grateful for this footage
For 8-9 years REM were untouchable. Stipe was a genius.
Was? He’s still alive. Even if he’s not actively putting out material.
Fugazi matched with them
I can listen to REM any time and be taken back to the '90s and my childhood. Thank you for everything, REM.
So true! Instant Time Machine.
For consistency, longevity, creativity and musicianship definitely in the top ten bands of all time.
Mills is so ridiculously fire on the vocals it’s insane. Makes the atmosphere of the live performance so grounded (and sounds like the album) yet spontaneous..feeding off of Stipes performative tendencies that are so crucial to this band.
Stipe's mania causes Peter Buck to roll his eyes, shake his head and smirk. Then he gives a few jumps ... love it.
The way he works the Microphone wire is a talent in itself, I can do that shit while I cut the grass in my garden with an electric lawnmower but without the great vocals lol 😆
WOW JUST WOW. ABSOLUTE PINACLE OF LIVE MUSIC. THE BEST LIVE PERFORMANCE I'VE EVER SEEN!!!
My dead brother's favourite song... coming up 12 years my best friend is gone. This song is always to bring me close to him
13 for me, brother. He wasn't my blood, but the best friend Ill ever have died in 2011. Every time something big happens in life I instinctively go to call Mike.
"Newton got beaned by the apple good." Fantastic performance of my favorite R.E.M. song.
That's one good bass-player.
and a great background singer as well
Michael's Elvis movement is iconic. This song is so cheerful & deep in my heart.
I'm listening to this song, once again, in 2022 and it is such a remarkable piece. It works as a piece of music. Stipe obviously loves performing it. It's great theater. But it does something even more elusive. I was so lucky to see Andy Kaufman live, when I was about 13 and again when I was 15 years old. Even today, I would have a hard time describing what I saw -- he would come out as one character, leave, and then perform as a second character, commenting on the first character. And on and on. And yet Michael Stipe writes this gorgeous song that really captures the vibe of Andy, and how you never really knew what was real, what wasn't, and then it all vanished. That's hard to do, but it's beautiful, and it's art. If you believe.
What Andy DID as an actor...for those ready to awaken to see is he played that role. The point of the song is nothing is what you think it is. It's starting to come to light now. We are a society that has been asleep for generations. By design. "Nothing IS cool." People are missing the point. The message of the song is cryptic unless you really are awake to the lies we've been told The irony!
@@karenwebster2465 bingo! ,..... folks getting too emo to realize the logic of the song - the reality we're fed is a bunch of crap and smokescreen, and we're just believing anything they throw at us ........ we're simply being entertained into apathy ....... just as Andy Kaufman played us all .... he was a reflection of it - a comedic talent who would embarrass himself in public appearances in ways that would make people feel cringy awkward and bad for him, but he was actually an actor playing a role at all times ... we were all just being entertained .... it took the world too long to catch on to it - and then they had no idea what was an act and what was real .... by the time the world caught on to the fact that this guy was actually pulling off a genius act and playing us all for a fool, he was dead and gone ... by the time we all realize that the powers-that-be are pulling off an act of 'reality' over us, we may be the same
@@vinnytesla9731 You nailed it. When Michael Stipe sings back the "yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah" part. He's actually saying... Tell me some more lies, or let me sell you some swamp land if you believe that one! Right? 😂 Ingenious song because he's telling us the TRUTH for those awake enough to see.
@@karenwebster2465 exactly .... "yeah yeah yeah yeah" is Michael's sarcasm ...... it means "yeah ooooooook ..... I'll just go along with all this dumb crap, just as you masters want me to"
2023 for me lol
I'm 43. A guitarist. Kinda discovering these guys. Michael is great. Class act
This is the best song to play live!
Hot dayum am I here early. Great present for my birthday. Love you guys at REM!
Happy birthday!!happy REMday 😉
Happy birthday! 🥳
Thanks guys!
I always loved this song since I seen the movie and it’s so emotional and it plays as the movie ends is just beautiful
very interesting music that travels through the stories of the world. in the midst of momentary issues of personal interest. And yes Elves is cool. I really liked the lyrics.🌵🌵
Plz come back❤️
REM is better than the Beatles, Rolling Stones, and U2 , to me, at least.
Great band, but what you say is too much
Yes rem is the best
@@roberpb88 you remember that part when he said “to me at least”
100% agree. 9 straight albums (including the EP Chronic Town) that were exceptional. 9 in a row. They are not as grandiose or got famous in the 60’s, so they’re not often mentioned as THE greatest, but they are.
Michael is definitely a way cooler frontman than Jagger.
Não existe música envolvente e mais franca que esta 😃😃😃🙌🙌🙌👏
If you believe...✨💞
The music will bring us come together. Love R.E.M 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶

"Here's a little legend for the never-believers... here's a truck stop instead of St. Peters." Still haunting to this day.
What does it mean?
@@-Only.Facts- Something to do with Andy Kaufman, I'm sure. However Stype's cryptic songwriting is all the more beautiful and powerful because you likely *don't* know precisely what it means.
Kaufman didn’t believe in science or religion. He thought it was all just magic. Read the verses for what they are. The song, though beautiful, is incredibly tragic. It’s about a man losing his grip in front of the world. And at the end of his life, he fell for the magic…
Read between the lines. Andy Kaufman's brilliance was that you never knew if it was an act. Like everyone in public eye today. ALL is a show! He was giving a huge piece of the puzzle. ALL is a show. Wakeup masses.
@@IndoorHydroponix ah...so that's it
Great harmony by Mills!
Andy kauffman legend!
R.E.M. It is a work of art.💫💖💥
always loved these but don't take this wrong he looks on stage like a mental patient that's just escaped love it ps my fav is at my most beautiful it is so underrated in my opinion .
If this does NOT make you happy, you need a life coach. Micheal is such a beautiful man. Dang shame he broke up the band. Never to be replaced or replicated. REM IS LIFE. REM IS RELIGION!
see you in heaven if you make the list🌌✨✨
Great song
I played this alot
REM is a hit or miss for me, but I like a few of their songs. But THIS song is one of the greatest songs of all time, by any band, in any genre, both musically or lyrically. Beauty.
Agreed, they've got peaks and lows and overall Stipe seems a bit of a douche but I'm finally slowly getting into them.
Same, have 3 of their albums, including Eponymous , early compilation album, brilliant.
I believed
Yessss😊❤️🎶😊❤️🎶 a most brilliant and beautiful band
Well that was fucking excellent

Love when he dose the elvis....hey baby
That was just a straight up fucking awesome live performance. Hands down.
good lord!
I love this song
Now that’s a performance!
Last great band I got into when they were relevant. They bore me now. I got old. It happens😊
this is emotion
absolute timeless gem
I think he would prefer a cordless mic… lol
Get Stipe a wireless mic!
Somebody get this man a wireless mic

I love it from the first moment you dreamed of it ✨✨✨✨✨❤️
So damn hot!!!
Just pure raw talent! Sounds better than many singers recordings!
🤟🤟🤟💙💙💙
Michael looked like he was a mortal kombat character every time a song started!
♥️
!!
Stellar performance!!!
Wow what a live Performance
A bit to slow this version the version from their 1995 RoadMovie is alot better.
Why did the crowd say 'NO' to Patti Smith? She's a legend...
What a performance !!!
Great set!
Got a citation for driving under a suspension license yesterday don't know what will happen tired of all this living shit. Been sober 3 years I'm just plain tired just want to go home.
De lo mejor !!💙💛🖤 R.E.M.
Moon is satellite 🎯💚🌠🎼🦉🎶❇🎵🧚♀️
Every single word and note about this song is perfection!
who has bettererd this
4600th like! I absolutely love this tune and the year I was born!🩷
“COME OOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!!!”
Better than the Beatles? Are you mad? REM we're good, but not brilliant.
Hope they’re back for one last tour in 2025
REM ♡
Michael is doing some Kurt (Kurdt) Cobain shit here.
Before Glastonbury became a festival for Champagne Socialists and 'influencers'. Wouldn't go there is you gave me a free ticket now.
❤️
☝️
Stipe was a brilliant front man.
He rhymed wood with wood
Amazing! WooF!!🐶🐶🐶🐶
❤️
How's the Elvis rendition! Michael is different in this clip. He doesn't seem happy about something, but he is full into it.
The only weakness in these lyrics is Tony Clifton not being mentioned.
oh man they were great
Coo-wallllll!
Awesome ❤song 💗🤩💛😍💗💖💖💖😍💗😍.
Did they not tour much? Cannot find many live recorded vids of them :/
Una esecuzione STUPENDA della canzone che conosco da decenni! Bellissima.
