Guilty Gear Strive is still going strong! Season 4 is confirmed and we'll probably see the first character for it in July, either at Anime Expo or more likely EVO. There's also an anime in the works and we're set to get the first trailer for it at Anime Expo. But yeah Guilty Gear Strive is my first real traditional fighting game, I had played platform fighters and Pokken before but Guilty Gear Strive was the *real* plunge, and since then this has become my favorite series just in general. I like giving the backgrounds of characters to ppl who're just seeing them for the first time, this time I'll just stick to the characters that I play in Strive Bridget's actually the character that got me to buy the game lol, I played in one of the prerelease betas but didn't end up buying until I heard about her story. Long story short she's canonically trans! She was born as part of a set of 2 male twins in a UK village that had a superstition that same gender twins brought misfortune, and mandated that the younger of the set be exiled or put to death. Bridgets parents obviously didn't like either option so they hid Bridgets birth gender and raised her as a girl. Bridget knew all about this and altho she was seemingly content, her parents were full of guilt and she couldn't convince them that she was fine, so when she was 13 she set out to go out and get rich and bring a bunch of money back while presenting as a man to prove the town wrong. She found a bounty for a character named Dizzy, and altho she wasn't able to claim it, that put her down the path of a bounty hunter which is a big business in the world of Guilty Gear. Strive takes place 5 years after her initial appearance, and in that time she succeeded in becoming the most successful bounty hunter in the world, but something was still missing. In her arcade mode story in Strive, after speaking with Goldlewis and Ky, she resolves to do whatever makes *her* happy and to not let any superstition dictate her identity. Thus, she is a woman. A.B.A is a homunculus, and also probably one of the most niche characters in the series lol. She and Bridget both weren't in Xrd, but Bridget was at least in Vastedge for whatever that's worth. A.B.A appeared in Isuka, and then in XX and then just vanished from the series, it was questionable if she was even canon until she finally came back in Strive very recently. Anyways yeah she's a homunculus created by an alchemist named Paracelsus, but when she awoke in the lab she was made in, the whole place was vacant of other life. Paracelsus had apparently been hauled away by a nefarious group. She spent 10 years living in the lab before leaving and finding a sentient, demonic, key shaped axe called Flament Nagel, who she INSTANTLY fell in love with and made her husband without ever asking what it thought. She renamed it to Paracelsus (after her creator) and sought to make it a human body (again, in spite of its wishes. It in reality is content to be an axe). All we know about the axe is that it sends its wielder into a berserker-like rage that usually ends up taking its life, and then the axe feeds on the bloodshed, but A.B.A's biology seemingly makes her immune. Anyways, A.B.A travelled with Paracelsus for a long time off screen, she seemingly got more into fashion and beauty as she learned more about the outside world, she also tends to get really jealous of anyone who takes interest in Paracelsus. Paracelsus's temperment also mellowed out as he traveled with her. In Strive her jealousy and fear of losing him manifests as black goop that Paracelsus shapeshifts into, and in her arcade mode her and Paracelsus resolve to both work on improving themselves together because as toxic as the relationship is, A.B.A's love for him is real, and Paracelsus has grown fond of her too. Gameplay wise, Bridget is pretty well rounded and easy to pick up. She has low damage and health but her attacks are enormous and she has insane mobility too which gives her the ability to run some extremely vicious close range offense. A.B.A is an install character. She starts off in her normal mode where she's extremely slow and has to work to build up her jealousy gauge in order to activate her install, Jealous Rage, which buffs her damage output, changes many of her moves and gives her the fastest dash in the whole game. She's really weird but really fun. She has especially high damage output and one of the highest healths, and when she gets into Jealous Rage it's over.
There is planned season 4 announced, and probably a 5 or even 6. A friend told me that they plan to add all the characters possible into this game, which is another... 6-10 characters, depending if they'll bring back dead/"very retired" characters, with a bunch more characters that were from spin-offs or weren't fighters yet that could become fighters (I counted 11).
I think this next season will be in response to the character request survey. So, we'll probably see characters like Venom, Jam, maybe even Zappa since I saw a lot of excitement for him before the A.B.A reveal.
You should definitely listen to the music! The characters have themes with lyrics about their particular character and story. I would recommend specific ones, but it'd be nice to see someone react to some new stuff rather than the typical Drift, Love the Subhuman Self, etc.
I believe when it came to anime fighting games, Guilty Gear was always on top back in the late 1990s - late 2010s until Dragon Ball FighterZ came along. Because of course Dragon Ball would gain the most attention for a fighting game. I never haven’t gone too deep into Guilty Gear yet as I’ve only played the first 2 games, but I really like Sol Badguy just for the aesthetics and powers he has. I do want to mention this though. Guilty Gear actually has a sister series called “Blazblue” (pronounced “BLAZE-BLUE”) that is not as popular because it leaned too much into the anime aesthetic, but I still recommend giving it a look. Specifically the finishing moves called “Astral Finishers”. The latest main game being “Blazblue: Central Fiction” And I need to emphasize the words “main game” because their latest game is actually a crossover fighter with 4 main series and a bunch of guest characters from other series. One of absolute favorite fighting games. Title is “Blazblue Cross Tag Battle”
seeinng people's blind reaction the gameplay and OST of Guilty Gear -STRIVE- is always fun to see. the game should be getting more attention, definitely underrated compared to other titles in the fighting game genre. thanks for making a video on it.
Oh one of my childhood game I played every single Guilty Gear games from X to 2X to Xrd to Strive❤❤❤my mains are Millia Rage the untouchable maiden assassin with her deadly hair Testament the one with the scythe and Anji Mito the giant fans guy❤❤❤❤
Just got done watching - that was a lot of fun, thanks for making this! A few things I'll sneak in for added context and conversation: A) we would 1000% watch reactions to the OST. The series creator, Daisuke Ishiwatari, is also the game's composer - and in both Strive and the previous games, his work has consistently been some of the best experimental rock / metal ever released to the public. There's a few particular songs for Strive that I (and everyone else) would happily recommend in particular, but none of it is bad. B) Oh, we're still getting support for this game. You skipped it at the end of the Slayer trailer, but Season 4 is already confirmed - this'll take the game to 32 characters, expanding on what's already the largest roster in series history. We're also supposed to be getting a 3v3 mode - not sure of the exact details of how that's gonna play, but I hope it's structured like it is in The King of Fighters. C) I mained Anji - the guy with the hand fans - when I first got Strive, because none of the three characters I prioritized in the last game were in Strive. Two of them have since been added back, (Baiken the big-tiddy samurai and Elphelt the death metal idol) so they're back in the top spot for me now. D) Strive is actually much more beginner-friendly than most previous titles. If you can figure out Tekken, you can absolutely figure this game out - I realize I'm biased, but you should give it a shot if you're seriously interested. The community talks a lot of shit, but it's all in good fun; and the tutorial system is extremely robust, like it usually is with ArcSys games.
Alright here's a tibbit of lore/fun trivia about each character: Sol badguy - He's damn good in fire magic: if it exists in his general vicinity it will most likely burn Ky Kiske - At 16, this swordsman progidy lead a squad in *the* war May - _Will_ hit you with an anchor, _will_ yell "totsugeki!! :DD" and smack you in the face with a dolphin Axl - This poor bri'ish lad sort of fell into a timeslip and let's just say he's damn good with scythes Chipp - He's so much of a weeb that he ran for presidency as a ninja... and won! Potemnkin - While _most_ other characters got some magic behind their art, he's "just" one very stronk boi who ate his spinach Faust - Certified baldy, and also a genius doctor who WILL get a cure for you. also free lobotomies! Millia Rage - "Your hair looks faboulous!" correct, she is going to stab you with it ZATO - Is blind and got a shadow demon that's called Eddie Ramlethal Valentine - turned to the good side after eating hamburgers _once_ Leo - Has survivors guilt and is hoping to die in battle but still sort of wants to win? Nagoriyuki - Who let the boomer vampire get a hold of the flintstone gummies inside my blood? Giovanna - Basically a werefolf, however, is also a cop who really really likes to kick people in the face Anji - _Will_ parry your super while surpressing the urge to scream whatever is on his mind I-No - Literally the manifestation of humanity's will to live another day, so to speak. Goldlewis Dickinson - The head minister of defense; canonically has salty blood. Jack-O' Valentine - imagine if you take 2 persons, stuff 63.83% of each personality into a body and wish it luck. Happy Chaos - yes he does have like _the_ gun across all dimensions; instead likes to use a handmade knock-off he made Baiken - She and Anji are some of the only japanese people left on earth? Also long intro! Testament - Signed up for a genetic experiment so hard that they sort of removed all shit that _isn't_ made for combat. Bridget - Mixup queen who really likes her yoyo and really dislikes veggies. Sin Kiske - He's 5 years old and has the mentallity of an overly optimistic anime MC Bedman? - Uploaded himself into his gaming set-up (his bed) before he died. Asuka R# - Banished himself onto the moon, broadcasting good news for the entire world as punishment for causing a "minor inconvinience" A.B.A - "I can fix her" no you cannot this homonculus is madly in love with a sentient key Slayer -This dandy fella has canonically never lost a single fight there will be more lore if you listen to the OST; it _will_ be worth it!
just small corrections : Sol is also an immortal badass, and Ky's father in law, he also witnessed his past self being killed by I-No but said he didn't care so he survived AxL fell into a timeslip and became a time traveler. Jack'O : also part of Sol's Wife Baiken : She lost an arm, a leg and an Eye but is still an effin' badass Bridget : Mix-up King (yes Bridget is canonically a man) Sin Kiske : Is Ky's son and Sol's Grandson Asuka : Was Sol's best friend, transformed Sol's wife into a murder robot and was the primary antoganist for every game except this one while not being a playable/figthable character
The bedman? kid is called dellilah she is romeo's sister. And Roméo is bedman. He'll now he is dead and only his robot is left. (BTW Roméo and dellilah where Fréddery mercury's cats names)
There's legit loads of stuff to dive into, no matter the direction. You can react to the music, the overdrives and instant kills over the years, OR if you feel courageous, the lore. The crazy part is this is just about all the brain child of one dude. Story, music, character design. So much of this 20+ year old series is from Daisuke Ishiwatari's head.
It's not super easy to compare Tekken and Guilty Gear, given that one is a 2D fighter and one is a 3D fighter (talking movement, not graphics)... It also partly comes down to what you enjoy in a game... Guilty Gear games are known for looking great and having great soundtracks either way lol... Also somewhat of a potentially hard to follow story... There's all sorts of bonkers stuff in it... Either way, you might want to still check out more... Especially if you're into music, the soundtrack is crazy... There's maybe one or two songs that are maybe just ok at worst, but most of it is great and/or nuts lol.
Listen to the songs, that’s how most of the character growth is shown in game is via the songs, as the game doesn’t really tell you much about the characters
Happy kiss is one of the most broken characters in the game to this day even when Slayer came out he still has a broken character ever but slayers another good one too
Love the video! Guilty Gear Strive is definitely one of my favorite recent fighting games to come out, it's the first one that really got me into the genre. I would highly encourage you to check out the character themes as the music in the game is incredible. Also for future reference if you do more Guilty Gear videos, Testament uses they/them pronouns throughout the series 👍
To let ya know guilty gear has been around since 1998 playstation 1 era and there's been many games up to strive so it has a history of great soundtrack in all the games Plus it's all a big reference to rock and roll history to stages, the music, character's, the moves they do, for example the main character sol badguy is named after freddie mercury lead singer of queen bc his nickname was Mr.bad guy.
21:05 DUDE. Take care of this stuff behind the camera, it's slovenly. As for general comment, no reason not to check out GGST even if you are a Tekken player. You asked which one is better but those are completely different types of games and even if speaking about vibes in general, it's purely subjective and in both series even each entry can be different from other (especially in GG which made quite a big change in Strive unlike Tekken which mechanically stays mostly the same - though there are better and worse entries in both series).
@mylles1112 they're probably the best videos on the lore until strive. Even recommended by ArcSys themselves. Just put on subtitles for the first one, even he said he messed up the audio balancing a tad

Baiken's my main and its nice to see you react to this game! one other fighting game thaft goes crazy is Killer Instinct
No clue if someone's said it. But testament doesn't have a sex (or is non binary? Idk)
But anyways, the English VA is male and the Japanese VA is female. It's such a good detail
yeah they're canonically nonbinary :D!
English va is actually a trans girl iirc
If you do decide to listen to the ost, I recommend using cloudrops's lyrics video for the reaction
I might do that soon!
@@jayroro7053actually i would recommend using CapnBooker's lyric videos, as they tend to be more accurate than CloudDrop
I personally would use CapnBookers lyric videos,as while they arent as spectacular editing wise, they're lyrics are more correct @@jayroro7053
@@jayroro7053 Though, keep in mind that Cloudrops often gets the lyrics wrong. For the accurate once i can't really suggest anything other than wiki for the game.
@@SteelBeastRT CapnBooker has the correct lyrics in his videos.
I like giving the backgrounds of characters to ppl who're just seeing them for the first time, this time I'll just stick to the characters that I play in Strive
Bridget's actually the character that got me to buy the game lol, I played in one of the prerelease betas but didn't end up buying until I heard about her story.
@@marcusjones6098 ngl i miss Kliff i hope they add him back, also Order-Sol and maybe Justice and Valentine
@@NotARobotNano same, I loved kliff aha
You should definitely listen to the music! The characters have themes with lyrics about their particular character and story. I would recommend specific ones, but it'd be nice to see someone react to some new stuff rather than the typical Drift, Love the Subhuman Self, etc.
You gotta come up with some better filler words man. "Damn" "Wow" "that's sick" "that's crazy" "that's insane" can only be used so many times.
The latest main game being “Blazblue: Central Fiction”
And I need to emphasize the words “main game” because their latest game is actually a crossover fighter with 4 main series and a bunch of guest characters from other series.
A few things I'll sneak in for added context and conversation:
A) we would 1000% watch reactions to the OST.
Potemkin aint no robot he based grappler man
Alright here's a tibbit of lore/fun trivia about each character:
Sol badguy - He's damn good in fire magic: if it exists in his general vicinity it will most likely burn
Ky Kiske - At 16, this swordsman progidy lead a squad in *the* war
May - _Will_ hit you with an anchor, _will_ yell "totsugeki!! :DD" and smack you in the face with a dolphin
Axl - This poor bri'ish lad sort of fell into a timeslip and let's just say he's damn good with scythes
Chipp - He's so much of a weeb that he ran for presidency as a ninja... and won!
Potemnkin - While _most_ other characters got some magic behind their art, he's "just" one very stronk boi who ate his spinach
Faust - Certified baldy, and also a genius doctor who WILL get a cure for you. also free lobotomies!
Millia Rage - "Your hair looks faboulous!" correct, she is going to stab you with it
ZATO - Is blind and got a shadow demon that's called Eddie
Ramlethal Valentine - turned to the good side after eating hamburgers _once_
Leo - Has survivors guilt and is hoping to die in battle but still sort of wants to win?
Nagoriyuki - Who let the boomer vampire get a hold of the flintstone gummies inside my blood?
Giovanna - Basically a werefolf, however, is also a cop who really really likes to kick people in the face
Anji - _Will_ parry your super while surpressing the urge to scream whatever is on his mind
I-No - Literally the manifestation of humanity's will to live another day, so to speak.
Goldlewis Dickinson - The head minister of defense; canonically has salty blood.
Jack-O' Valentine - imagine if you take 2 persons, stuff 63.83% of each personality into a body and wish it luck.
Happy Chaos - yes he does have like _the_ gun across all dimensions; instead likes to use a handmade knock-off he made
Baiken - She and Anji are some of the only japanese people left on earth? Also long intro!
Testament - Signed up for a genetic experiment so hard that they sort of removed all shit that _isn't_ made for combat.
Bridget - Mixup queen who really likes her yoyo and really dislikes veggies.
Sin Kiske - He's 5 years old and has the mentallity of an overly optimistic anime MC
Bedman? - Uploaded himself into his gaming set-up (his bed) before he died.
Asuka R# - Banished himself onto the moon, broadcasting good news for the entire world as punishment for causing a "minor inconvinience"
A.B.A - "I can fix her" no you cannot this homonculus is madly in love with a sentient key
Slayer -This dandy fella has canonically never lost a single fight
there will be more lore if you listen to the OST; it _will_ be worth it!
May is also Japanese.
just small corrections :
Sol is also an immortal badass, and Ky's father in law, he also witnessed his past self being killed by I-No but said he didn't care so he survived
AxL fell into a timeslip and became a time traveler.
Jack'O : also part of Sol's Wife
Baiken : She lost an arm, a leg and an Eye but is still an effin' badass
Bridget : Mix-up King (yes Bridget is canonically a man)
Sin Kiske : Is Ky's son and Sol's Grandson
Asuka : Was Sol's best friend, transformed Sol's wife into a murder robot and was the primary antoganist for every game except this one while not being a playable/figthable character
Number of times "you guys" was said in the intro: 9
You gotta listen to the OST, That stuff is fire that could melt a planet
No FG is better than another. It just depends on if you like the way a game’s systems allow you to express yourself.
The bedman? kid is called dellilah she is romeo's sister. And Roméo is bedman. He'll now he is dead and only his robot is left.
(BTW Roméo and dellilah where Fréddery mercury's cats names)
absolutely go for it if you want to react to the OSTs, actually one of the best things about the franchise in general
ALSO GUILTY GEAR IS JUST A ROCK BAND; WITH A FIGHTING GAME ATTACHED
Listen to the songs, that’s how most of the character growth is shown in game is via the songs, as the game doesn’t really tell you much about the characters
21:11 you find anything up there?
Happy kiss is one of the most broken characters in the game to this day even when Slayer came out he still has a broken character ever but slayers another good one too
Look at Asuka R's character guide and you'll be amazed
Guilty Gear Strive is going for 50% now with the steam summer sale, perfect time to pick it up!
Bro if you listened to the ost, that would be dope.
Gotta do the insane lore of street fighter now... its by the sa mlm e guy that did the tekken lore video
I'd be so down to see more people listening to the OST. Even if you don't end up making videos on it, they're well worth the listen regardless
Lovin' the fighting game stuff recently, don't forget to checkout sf6 trailers!
Could you react to Dragonball fighterz all dramatic finishes including dlc? That would be cool
Oh yes let me add that on my list, thank you for the suggestion!
To let ya know guilty gear has been around since 1998 playstation 1 era and there's been many games up to strive so it has a history of great soundtrack in all the games
Plus it's all a big reference to rock and roll history to stages, the music, character's, the moves they do, for example the main character sol badguy is named after freddie mercury lead singer of queen bc his nickname was Mr.bad guy.
Oh the game has a story mode alright! It's a 5 hour movie lol
"They love adding magic characters" - so every character? Because this is a magic setting and every single character is magic?
21:05 dude u know you can edit stuff out 😭
So bro is a Tekken Fan now 😂
Why? Can't he be?
21:05 DUDE. Take care of this stuff behind the camera, it's slovenly.
As for general comment, no reason not to check out GGST even if you are a Tekken player. You asked which one is better but those are completely different types of games and even if speaking about vibes in general, it's purely subjective and in both series even each entry can be different from other (especially in GG which made quite a big change in Strive unlike Tekken which mechanically stays mostly the same - though there are better and worse entries in both series).
they're still doing dlc atleast for another year
as a Tekken player I feel poor compared to GG strive characters diversity and designs. damn the game already pulled me in
I main Bridget but I'd love to duel you as I find Strive to be better than most modern fighing games
Obligatory ost reaction request
You are now obliged to fall down the rabbit hole
Just not obligated to follow the story line, shit is too complicated
@mylles1112 idk man the Woolie Versus videos were enough to get me to understand
@@aidenmb7932 really? I tried understanding by reading the lore but never watched the videos, thks for the reco
@mylles1112 they're probably the best videos on the lore until strive. Even recommended by ArcSys themselves. Just put on subtitles for the first one, even he said he messed up the audio balancing a tad
try every chara out but main the one you think is the coolest
listen to the ost please 😶
tekken 8 < Strive, mm me in t8
Also potemkin is not a robot he's a really big guy in the military.
And if you wanna get it get the daredevil edition that has all the character's until season 4 character's come out.
The kid is not bedman the bed is bedman who her dead brothers soul is inside the bed
Probably another one ya gotta check out is granblue fantasy versus rising
