    If the security camera offers more memory flexibility with use of a micro sd card would one be able to use a switch instead of an nvr and plug the switch directly to a router? Then use the cameras app to access live feed, recordings, etc.

    • @Fastcabling
      @Fastcabling  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      If your cameras have the capability to record directly to a microSD card and provide a way to access the recordings remotely, you can potentially bypass the need for an NVR. But please be aware that MicroSD cards may have limited storage capacity compared to dedicated hard drives in an NVR. The amount of footage you can store depends on the size of the microSD cards and how often you overwrite old recordings.

    Wow, that was extremely concise and informative, thank you. May I ask, how many HD or 4K cameras can operate across a single CAT6 cable? For instance, CAT6 from PoE switch to NVR.

    • @Fastcabling
      @Fastcabling  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      CAT6 cables can support up to 10Gbps but typically operate at 1Gbps over distances up to 100 meters. The bandwidth requirement per camera depends on the resolution and frame rate at which the camera records. For example:
      A 1080p HD camera might use about 4 Mbps (Megabits per second).
      A 4K camera might use around 20 Mbps or more, depending on the codec and frame rate.
      Also, you need to ensure the PoE switch can provide adequate power for all the cameras. Standard PoE (IEEE 802.3af) can supply up to 15.4 watts per port, whereas PoE+ (IEEE 802.3at) can supply up to 30 watts per port.

    hello there great video. I bought a camera System with NVR without a poe switch (no ports for camera on the back). Cameras themselves have dc port + ethernet female port. Can i use a external poe switch to power the cameras but still use the Wireless option of the cameras? thank you

      Yes, it is possible. Connect your cameras to the external PoE switch using Ethernet cables. Configure the camera to use Ethernet as the primary connection for data (to the PoE switch) and Wi-Fi as a secondary or redundant connection.

    You said "POE switch support various IP devices beyond IP cameras". Suppose in addition to IP cameras, home survillance system has a IP door bell. How this syatem with NVR will cater this ip door bell?

    • @Fastcabling
      @Fastcabling  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Some modern NVRs come with the ability to add various smart home devices, including IP doorbells, through ONVIF or custom integration. If your NVR supports it, you can view the video stream from the doorbell directly on the NVR’s interface along with the cameras. Many IP doorbells support RTSP, allowing you to access the live video feed. The NVR can capture and record this feed if configured properly.

    • @Fastcabling
      @Fastcabling  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      First, you need to assign a static IP and set up port forwarding for remote access. Then, find your public IP address by searching “What is my IP” on Google or checking your router’s status page.
      On a remote PC, open a web browser and enter your public IP address followed by the forwarded port. For example, if your public IP is 123.456.789.101 and your HTTP port is 8080, you would enter: 123.456.789.101:8080.
      Next, use your NVR’s login credentials to access the live view and settings.

    Can I connect both together since the poe switch doesn't have a hard drive memory? Or what is the best solution? Thanks. I like your videos!!!

    • @Fastcabling
      @Fastcabling  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thank you for your kind words! I'm glad you find the information helpful. Yes, you can connect a PoE switch and a PoE NVR together in a security camera system, but there are some important considerations to keep in mind:
      When you connect an 8-port PoE switch to a 4-channel PoE NVR, the PoE NVR will be able to record video footage from all cameras connected through the PoE switch. However, when viewing live feeds, you might be restricted to monitoring up to four cameras simultaneously on the NVR's interface. So it would be better to connect the PoE switch to a standalone NVR.
      For small to medium-sized systems with a limited number of cameras, a PoE NVR can be a convenient all-in-one solution. For larger systems, or if you already have a network infrastructure, a PoE switch might be more suitable. The PoE switch allows for easier scalability by adding more switches, while the PoE NVR might have limitations on the number of cameras it can support.

      Most IP cameras come with software or apps that might be able to cast or stream directly to a monitor. The computer can access the camera stream using appropriate software (like VLC or proprietary software from the camera manufacturer), and then output via its HDMI to the monitor.

    When you keep mentioning civilian in your description, are you referring to civilian vs military which is what that would mean? Or are you referring to civilian as residential as in residential vs commercial? Until, here, I have never heard referenced as you do civilian so often. As if there is some often made choice between civilian vs. military. Which is why I ask if you are referring to residential with civilian. Perhaps the Chinese have to make distinct distinctions between civilian and military? In the US, we do this with military grade equipment referring to equipment that is always more robust with less capability for failure. Of course, that makes it more costly. With some exception, anytime military standards are met by a product being offered to civilians, it gets mentioned.
    Or, perhaps you mention this often due to the US government's ban on certain Chinese made equipment in US government installations? I just have never heard the term civilian used so often integrated into a presentation as you have. And was only curious. You did a fine job, I'm not being critical, just curious as to why so often in your video you felt the need to reference civilian and thus what civilian means to you.
    Had yours been a presentation with a need to make the distinction and often, I could understand. Maybe it is? Thanks.

    I'm not following the choice between an NVR and switches. Shouldn't the choice be between an NVR with one port for each camera connected directly or an NVR with one or more switches inbetween the cameras and the NVR? For instance, I'm setting up a small system at a vacation home with a maximum of eight cameras. However, three of the cameras are for nature/scenery viewing where the rest are for surveillance. The nature cameras are from 200' to 300' away from the NVR through woods and could be exposed to lightning, etc. I decided to use a switch between the cameras and the NVR for these reasons:
    1. I need to access the nature cameras outside the NVR so having access to another device on the same network facilitates this.
    2. If any camera needs to be configured directly, the NVR can be bypassed. In contrast, if the camera is plugged directly into the NVR, it could require disconnecting it, plugging it into a computer to configure.
    3. Having a switch between the cameras and the NVR should provide better isolation with a lightning strike or surge.
    I now see you have a more recent video that discusses this exact issue: th-cam.com/video/v_Aa-oVoAk8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=PmvYCvcjWpQiAvH4

    • @Fastcabling
      @Fastcabling  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The switch does offer more control and expands your network's functionality. However, while switches can provide some isolation, they are not guaranteed protection against lightning strikes. If your cameras are mounted outdoors, proper grounding and surge protectors are necessary to minimize the risk of lightning damage.

      Here are the general upload speed requirements for different HD resolutions: 720p (HD): at least 5 Mbps ; 2K Streaming: at least 20 Mbps; 4K Streaming: at least 35 Mbps

    Which is the best method will use with 16channel/16 ip camera

    • @Fastcabling
      @Fastcabling  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      For a 16-channel/16 IP camera setup, using a PoE NVR simplifies cabling and power management directly through the NVR. However, if you require more flexibility with camera placement or extended distances beyond what the PoE NVR supports, pairing a standard NVR with a separate PoE switch is the way to go.

    What is deferent poe switch and nvr?

    • @Fastcabling
      @Fastcabling  หลายเดือนก่อน

      A PoE switch powers and connects IP cameras (and other devices) but doesn’t record video. It requires a separate NVR or software for video management.
      A PoE NVR combines video recording and PoE power in one device, directly connecting and powering cameras. It’s ideal for smaller, standalone camera setups but lacks the flexibility of a PoE switch for broader networking.

    when power went off what happens

    • @Fastcabling
      @Fastcabling  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Without power, the cameras lose connectivity to the NVR, so any live monitoring or remote access is interrupted. Users won't be able to view or control the cameras until power is restored. An Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) provides temporary backup power to the NVR and, if powerful enough, to the PoE switch, allowing the system to keep running for a limited time during short outages. This also helps prevent data corruption by allowing a safe shutdown if the outage lasts longer. In areas with frequent or extended outages, a solar or battery-powered backup system can provide extended coverage.

    if using poe switch + nvr, it will reduce the processing data burden of nvr (it will not torture the nvr)? or it is the same between poe switch+nvr compare with poe nvr ?

    • @Fastcabling
      @Fastcabling  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      The key point is that whether cameras are connected directly to the NVR or through a PoE switch, the NVR's processing load is primarily influenced by the number of cameras, their resolution, frame rate, and the complexity of any additional processing (motion detection, analytics, etc.). The method of connection (direct or through a switch) does not significantly change the processing demands on the NVR.
