Happy Birthday Caleb!! For this birthday you should gift yourself a Mamiya TLR with a 55, 80, and 135. Tho the 65 and 105 are darn good too - and some of those come in f/2.8. And there’s 180 and 250 just in case…. Big bellows, get spooky close. And never an issue with rangefinder coupling issues… Yes I’m going to hassle you till you cave in and try… u know you want to!
I'm glad you shot at least one portrait with the 150 mm, the longer lens shines in this scenario. I also love having a long lens available as it makes you change creativity when shooting, looking at a subject differently or picking out details. I like to have a (in 35mm lenses) 35mm, 50mm and 200mm as combo deal. Great video, with some great shots
I was out at a Lighthouse for sunrise in Portland, ME this morning. I kept thinking back at this video. I really wanted something wider than the 80mm to get the ring around the sun.
Not gonna lie your black and white shots were super nice but once you loaded that color film in you started seriously groovin !! Great shots my friend !!
After being introduced to your channel recently, it's crazy to see how you get more and more handsome as you get older when compared with your older videos.
Video @ 18:11 "maybe the best lenses ever made" Huh? - What you two Mamiyamigo's don't realize, is that these Mamiya lenses have an internal ticking time**mb. With enough twists of the focus ring, the flex that connects the rear contacts to the deeply imbedded electronic leaf shutter, becomes 'open' (connection break). Basically the paperclip bending back & forth scenario. With this, the shutter gets sporadic (starts to blank out frames), eventually going into total shutter failure.
Well done, Caleb. I'm also partial to the 50mm. Seems like quite a few people have focus issues with the 150...maybe it's a calibration problem with some copies? (You might take a look at Craig Prentis's video on the 150) A belated Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday! I like that hat you been rockin as well. Now for the camera, I like the form factor, I'm assuming. Don't have one but I feel like id prefer it much better over my bulky Pentax 645.
I’ve owned every lens at one point or another. To my surprise… favorite lens is the 50mm and the HIGHLY hated 150mm. The 150 is so cheap too. $300 MAX. It’s such a great lens. 50mm is pricy but I love it.
so I recently bought the 150mm as well and it turns out the rangefinder wasn't calibrated but with the wider lenses it wasn't that noticeable. Thus I sent the camera plus the 65 and the 150 and now I don't have any issues anymore
I just picked up the 43mm for my Mamiya 7, loving it so far, I also have the 65mm. Might keep an eye out for a 150 at some point. Thanks for the video!
I think the real question is if the image quality is so significantly better compared to other systems, that it justifies the high cost of the body and the lenses? A similar question that people are yet to answer for the Leicas, as well
ahhh what a great video Caleb. Thanks and happy birthday! I'll send you a pokemon card. 😘 I only own the 80mm, but I wish I had the budget for the 65 😩 and by the way, how in the world are you only at 30k subs?
Always good examples for 300-350 “buy it now” prices which is already super low relative to the other mamiya 7 lenses. If you are patient enough to wait for one up for regular bidding that’s where the real deals happen.
happy birthday, I recently I picked up a roll of expired scotch crome 400 and I have no clue when it expired but it is a 400 iso slide film which you don't see anymore and I know when shooting expired slide film to shoot at box speed but how should I develop should I develop at 400 iso and push/pull in development?
I used to be an electrician and I can confidently tell you I have no idea why that plug was that high on the wall. I also love all the 50 mm shots I too only have an 80 mm and am thinking about picking up that 50.
i thought i would never own a mamiya 7 (with a 80mm f4), then i met someone who traded me my beat up gw690iii and a contax g1+ 45mm f/2 lens for it. I purchased a 150mm f/4.5 when i was in japan for 45000 yen and did a photoshoot with it in Japan. The results are great. I still kinda prefer my fuji 6x9, but maybe I'm not use to the 6x7 ratio yet. I find the 80mm a bit too tight for me, and i'm trying to pick up the 65mm but damn is it expensive. Also your comment about the f4 being a letdown is true, since i shoot alot of iso100 film. Didn't realize how much extra help i got from that extra half stop from my gw690
@@BadFlashesI think that's the plan. I actually went to 30 camera shops all over the country when I was there and I did not see one 65mm. I always wonder where these ebay cameras from japan come from, alot of stores just had a bunch of leicas, hexars, and really bizarre rare cameras (f3 titan, hexar rf limited, gold cameras etc) Prices are also ALOT higher at the stores in japan than on Ebay (except for Fujiya Camera in tokyo and Kitamura Camera stores in each city always seem to have good deals). The only place I was able to find Mamiya 7 lenses were at Fujiya Camera, and they had 5 150mm f/4.5 haha.
6x7 is very close to the 65mm 15-perf IMAX motion picture format. And Christopher Nolan’s go to lenses for that have been a 50mm T2 and an 80mm T1.9 for a long time now. Unless they need something very specific, that’s all the lenses they’ve used for those thick IMAX sequences.
Ok, i'm up for a fight, big boy. 😅 I'll put the Nikon 80mm 2.8 on the Plaubel Makina 67/670 against your Mamamia F4 lenses all day. Aaaaand that's the uppercut knockout, son... 😂😂😂
