george bella yep. Their selection is very good. Lots of affordable package bows for new hunters. We want to see more folks get involved in hunting and their company reflects that mission
I read a study on bow purchases and it showed that people either spend tons of money on a bow or they wanna spend less than $500. That’s why Martin went out of business selling mid range priced bows. Bear seems to have a great affordable selection. I can respect the mission you guys are trying to accomplish with that partnership. I’d like to see a video of what type of accessories you guys use and maybe which release you prefer. That would be extremely helpful as well
@@TheHuntingPublic I think this is actually Awesome!!! My Wife bought me a Bow instead of the rifle I asked for. This was about 4 years ago?! It happened to be a bear legion. I hated that she didn't get what I wanted, but once I shot that bow, that's all I ever wanted to hunt with from then on. Only have been hunting for 2 seasons now, but I've enjoyed shooting the bow since I got it! If not for the affordable price, I'd still to this day, would have never even shot a bow! Nothing against other brands at all!
My second bow ever I bought from an archery shop, a little out of my price range, but they let my put it on lay away. When I told my wife, she told me we should have spent the money on a new dryer. I tried to explain that I would have a hard time hauling a dryer up a tree and killing a deer with it. She was not amused.
That salesman/pro-shop employee from Archery Field and Sport sire seems like a class act and SUPER knowledgeable. He doesn't push bows based on price he just helps people find what fits and feels good. I wish there were a lot more people in the hunting/archery/shooting world like him. I also wish I lived anywhere near that shop cause I'd support their business without hesitation to support his professional and high quality work.
What I love about you guys is that you're all about the hunt and don't get all caught up in the latest and greatest! I'm just as guilty as the next guy when it comes to buying new gear but you guys are inspiring for sure! A great message you're sending to new hunters!
I love to see you guys shooting Bear Bows instead of Mathews/Hoyet or Bow tech . Bear is a GREAT hunting bow for the normal working class person. I owned a pro shop for over 25 yrs and could have shot any brand of bow made but I loved the Bear bows I shoot a Bear Traxx and it is a fantastic bow. Love your guys videos, I get all fuzzy inside when I get that notification on a new download from you all. Good luck this season and Ill be watching.
I own a Bear Traxx as well! It's a very smooth shooting bow. Draw is smooth, solid back wall, and I dont notice any vibration. Quiet too. Bought it brand new for 450 since it was a few years old. Dont regret buying it at all.
I still harvest deer with a 1978 Jennings model T compound lol. Original string, flipper rest, nylon spring loaded Berger button, aluminum arrows, wasp 100gn 3blades, three pin sight with 20yd pin that uses a button battery to light the mini led! If it's not broken, don't try to fix it 🤣 I have drooled over the modern bows for years, but my trusty original bow keeps putting them down for me! I definitely got my money's worth 41 years ago. 😲
I totally agree if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, but At the same time I feel that if the technology is obsolete replace it , and you can’t say that you don’t feel the same way unless of course you are riding a horse to work and mowing the lawn with a rotary mower , rubbing 2 sticks together to make dinner , have never had an x ray or takin an antibiotic
I have the Fred Bear company locally in Gainesville FL, they have a 10 year warranty on their bow's. I had a broke limb, took it in and no questions asked, replaced it. I probably will never shoot anything but bear.
Bear makes great bows and their customer service is second to none. I'm shooting a 2011 Bear Anarchy single cam and love it. Super smooth draw, very quiet and very fast.
Bass pro and cabelas have a bunch of no at all pro shoppers that will throw people off with lots of BS. Honestly I'd rather introduce new hunters at an actual archery shop that at least knows what they are doing and talking. Thell order you a package bow for the same price straight from the shop fresh. It educates the new bowhunters better....I'm not advertising or trying to get brownie points. I'm just talking fact.
Buying a new bow is always a special time for a young man. It's a symbol of the hard work to raise the cash for the bow and the symbol of the hard work to come to becoming part of the tailgate club. One of the top (non-hunting) episodes by THP by far. And I have watched them all.
I have to give it to you guys, you truly do practice what you preach. The message you’re putting out is so awesome. Showing the new comers and the normal everyday people that you don’t need 1500.00 carbon bows, and crazy gear to get out and just enjoy what it’s all about. I have huge respect for you guys doing what you do. It’s what sets you apart of the rest. You connect to more every day people because you are every day people!
Great videos of the buying experience ! I managed an archery shop here for years, before Bass Pro came in. You nailed it though and are right. It's a little trade-off, but high level of personalized service and knowledge is typically found at your bow shop, wher bigger selection and somewhat lower prices are at the big stores. Both fun experiences.
I really appreciate this video. I think anyone who's looking to buy their first bow, or any novice, you will receive a huge education and tutoring from a reputable dealer/small shop like the one you went to. But, you can buy a less expensive bow at a box store, set up and successfully harvest game. You've proven that and honestly, I've told people who are just starting out that it possibly could be cheaper... But to gain knowledge and get that education, you can't beat those small shops and bow technicians that have been around.
Switched over from hunting with a recurve to a Bear compound a couple years ago and the bear bows a solid. This year I got an obsession to try it out but you guys will definitely be happy withe the bears.
Bought a new prime bow from a very small bow shop and they walked me through the process Of paper tune and sighting it in. Love the small bow and gun shops way more than the large chain store. I was out of bow hunting for about 6 years after I had my first child. I'm so glad to be back into it. Good luck this season
That’s awesome!! I’ve got a prime as well and love it. I don’t know if you know this.. but if you register your bow with prime you get free strings every few years.
I like how you approached this. Not everyone knows or wants to take the time to find your small local archery shop. Its about the Name guys. The Hunting Puplic! Its a quick easy way to get started!. I personally use a small shop but I also was fortunate to have someone that helped me get started and that just where he took me. Never been anywhere else. Love what you guys are doing. I didn't need to spend a ton of money on a new bow. The Species is a great bow, for a great price and I've killed 2 deer with it. Hopefully I'll be adding to that number this year. Great review.
@@jarretcressler9901 2 years and it shoots great. Archery shop actually discouraged me from replacing them this year because it was Paper-tuned so well. It's for sale now!
Not to speak ill of anyone but I went to Cabelas and bought a new Peep and it wasn't great at the time of purchase but the guy just put out a vibe like he rather be doing anything on Earth! I mean I made a valiant effort to have him address it but it never corrected! I say that because there are no local Archery shops around where I live and I ended up just dealing with it the rest of the season. In short it sucked and cost me! Modern entry level bows of today shoot better than top of the line bows from not too long ago. The biggest innovations were parallel limbs, string stopper/cushion, d-loop, and drop away rests. Top of the line bows shooting carbon arrows back in the day sounded like a gun going off no matter what you did to them and tuning 2 prong rests (not drop away) could be very difficult, especially with a helical fletch.
For anyone that is watching. Skip to 6:00. I wouldn't buy anything at the first place. THP, the only reason im saying this is because, I believe in supporting the little people.
Just picked up the Mission Switch earlier this year. Been shooting 3-4 days a week and can now hit 4/5 in a 6" circle at 50 yards. Most bows are more accurate than the archer as long as its tuned properly. We just gotta do our part. Keep it up guys.
I watched this just to for the entertainment factor. My issue is I have a 32" draw which limits my options. Keep up the great content. Love that part of your goal is to get more people hunting.
You guys are so much fun to watch. Great information with a serious commitment to educating average hunters. I'm really impressed by your entire outlook and quality of content you supply. I previously mentioned that I've been completely turned off by public hunting due to lack of respect. Watching your first series has rejuvenated my spirit to trying public land again. I was able to harvest a turkey this year with my bow on Public Land that has serious pressure. I was 1 of only 3 people to harvest a bow in my county this year and that includes all private land also. Keep up the good work guys!
lol I live five minutes down the road from archery field and sports. I can honestly say that if it wasn’t for you guys, and Mark. I wouldn’t be bow hunting today.
Ok. Here’s the thing... in the first part of the video I noticed the bass pro was set up just like mine.. then you guys went to archery field and sports, that’s when I got all giddy and realized you were at my local bass pro shop! Great video. I just bought a bowtech realm sr6 from archery field and sports myself. The guys there are great, and the perks of buying from them are amazing! I’m excited to see more videos!
Nice pick! I saved up BPS and Cabelas gift cards for two years to get a new Bear Species just a month ago! Was shooting a 25-year old Bear Magnum. What an upgrade!
We have a bow shop called triple edge archery about 1 hr 30 min away from where we live and that’s where we go for new bows and even go just for check ups to make sure everything is good
Last summer I bought a new Bear LS-2 and I love it! Thing is so forgiving. I fell in love the first shot. Killed 3 does with it last season. ( Love that venison)
I have the bear paradox. Great bow. Just got it. My 1st bow. I put the trophy ridge hitman stabilizer on it. The 6 inch. It is dead in the hand. And a tac driver. Ibo is 330. And a qad ultrarest drop away. A trophy ridge REACT pro 5 site. Apex side rear mount trophy ridge hitman stabilizer. Custom strings and a kisser button and Trupeep sight.
Pretty cool overview of the process of buying and setting up a bow at two different type locations and arriving at the same conclusion. Those $400 RTH packages from Bear, Diamond, PSE, etc... are truly the Best Twang for Your Buck out there. I remember when I worked at Cabela's in Wheeling, WV from 2006-2016 the Diamond Infinite Edge was their best seller, but Bear RTH bows were also popular. I purchased my first and only bow back in 2006 out of the Bargain Cave at Cabela's for $130 that included 4 arrows, quiver, sight and rest. I have changed out the old rest for a Whisker Biscuit and love it and even updated the sight. Sadly in the 13 years that I have had it I have yet to release an arrow at an animal. Hopefully 2019 will be the Year of the Deer, especially archery for me. I have thought about getting a new parallel limb bow that is lighter, faster, quieter, etc... but why? I haven't taken anything with the one I have now. Even though it would be neat to go to an archery shop and go through the process of customizing/setting up a new bow, that cost extra cash I don't have at the moment. I have been watching your How To Episodes and trying to soak it all in, got to put it into practice. Even though I have only been able to hunt around the house, I need to find some good public land in the northern part of West Virginia within a couple hours of home. I know OnX can help with that.
Bear is definitely my go to since I was 16 yo in 1998 which was a whitetail 2 I just picked up a bear rant for 75 from a buddy I served with and I absolutely love it very comfortable it's not the most expensive bow I have but it fits me perfectly I'm looking forward to filling some tags with it I believe he paid 400 and it was a ready to hunt combo as well hey I love the show you guys are awesome 👍
I’m shooting an old Matthews and I’m a firm believer in Hoyt but have never tried Bear so I’m open to new options what should I get if I do go with bear?
Guys - Excellent video ! Thanks a lot, I know shotguns but bows are a completely different animal to me. Also, good point on demonstrating the Big Box store experience vs the small shop experience. Good luck this season and look forward to future posts. Thanks, Reed
Price point bows and RTH packages today are on par if not better than flagship bows of yesteryears. Cheaper and higher tolerance manufacturing processes have really helped keep older technologies (for example, the solo cam) relevant and affordable. With that said, there hasn’t been a better time to buy a flagship bow if you find one you love. We are physically at a cap on things like speed and efficiency. Don’t be afraid to spend the long dollar, it won’t be irrelevant in 2 years like a decade ago.
Switched from a Bear Super 44" when the cable snapped after 22 years(and could get a replacement as they dont even have the swage machines anymore to make them) and got a Bear Anarchy. Wow! What a difference 20 years makes in tech! Had to trade in my aluminum Game getters at the same time(had the same set for 15 years, still accurate). I havent found another bow as smooth as the anarchy. I plan on getting spare limbs as i probabky with have this one for another 20 years! And Whats up with everyone bagging on Ted's punchy trigger finger? How many deers has he wounded from it?
I know this is an older video but did Ted have the peep changed? The peep sight on the one he bought is different then the one sold with the RTH package.
I shot an old PSE for my first 2 years. Then i upgraded to a mathews creed because i knew the bow would make me more accurate....well it did one thing for sure...made me realize i need to focus more on the other factors that led to my shooting lol. I love my bow tho. Its 6-7 years old and i have no doubt i will continue to shoot it for at least another 5. I tell all my buddies that want to get into bow hunting to start out with the same kind of bows yall were workin with in these vids. 4-500$ package bows. When you first get into archery there will be plenty more accessories you need to spend money on
I have the spyder turbo....you will be shooting 40 yards like it’s 20....no joke buddy most accurate Hoyt platform out there I just put new limbs and strings on mine just to do it bc they were not wore out just did it for peace of mind 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸
The problem with big box stores is that the level of technical skill varies wildly. I had to adjust every one of my 4Hers bows from Scheels this year. On the other hand, three years ago it was the pro shop that was setting everyone up with too long of a draw length. Most of the techs at the Scheels I went to in Nebraska were pretty good. I also like to support small independent shops.
Check that hand torque. Fun to record yourself shooting and watch your form. Nice form @10:00 no torque. Pro Shops are the way to go for sure. Great content.
You guys are always entertaining and educational👏 I'm trying my hardest to put the word out there🗣 it's amazing how many people in upstate New York have yet to hear about you guys😟
Zach, I agree 💯% that those bass pro shooting gallery guns are off. Me and a buddy went to the one in Vaughan Ontario, we couldn't hit nothing, but December rolled around and in the controlled deer hunt the deer were dropping like flies!!
Brace height is the distance from the string to the riser. Longer the brace height, the less time your arrow is in contact with the string during the shooting cycle. Essentially making your bow more forgiving to human error.
I bought the Bear threat with the digital camo last year, awesome bow. It came with a $200+ trophy ridge sight. I thought they may have put too much in that and not in the bow and it wasn’t the case. Shoots perfect. Got a deer last season with it.

It’s really depends on the the employee working in bass pro. If the employee is good they can get you by at bass pro. But bass pro usually does not carry higher end archery products. They also have you bug cables and string to restring bow.
A+++ Video!!! I've been shooting the same bow since, oh gosh... 1994. It's made by "Xi". They've been out of business for over a decade. I think I was the 3rd owner of it when I bought it. Way to go THP!!!

I watched this just to for the entertainment factor. My issue is I have a 32" draw which limits my options. Keep up the great content. Love that part of your goal is to get more people hunting.
Bought my brother a elite off those guys last year. Very knowledgeable and helpful.
Keep up the good work guys!
nothing like a good archery pro shop to make you feel confident when buying new equipment with years of experience to back it up good job guys
lol I live five minutes down the road from archery field and sports. I can honestly say that if it wasn’t for you guys, and Mark. I wouldn’t be bow hunting today.
5:02. Zach just sniping a 140 on the railing of the second floor
Mark and the guys are great! Always have taken my stuff there. They treat you right and are very knowledgeable on all things archery.
Bear is a great company. I have the enticer and I love it!
Bear bows babyyyy WALK AMOUNG LEGENDSSSS!
Killed 3 does with it last
season.

The man at the archery shop definitely new what he was doing
Grant and Dylan are some of the best interns yall ever had
The difference between this video and videos this year of ted on camera is crazy!
Be honest, what trophy ridge sight have you guys found to be tye best for deer hunting?
How'd the length feel? " Bout right"😂😂
I’m shooting an old Matthews and I’m a firm believer in Hoyt but have never tried Bear so I’m open to new options what should I get if I do go with bear?
My bear truth two is twelve years old. I have It for my backup bow now! Still shoots arrows like a beast too!
Guys - Excellent video ! Thanks a lot, I know shotguns but bows are a completely different animal to me. Also, good point on demonstrating the Big Box store experience vs the small shop experience.
Good luck this season and look forward to future posts.
Thanks,
Reed
I bought a species rth from Cabela’s on sale and I was impressed with the quality for a lower priced bow.
Hey there! Have you ever tried the Predator Archery Raptor bow? Just wanted to know whay you think about it
I have had good experiences with bass pro and private dealers. Glad to have both! Scheels has knowledgeable people as well. Nice video!
Love how you guys went with Bear.
When you first get into archery there will be plenty more accessories you need to spend money on
I just bought a new/used Hoyt Spyder 30 yesterday, I'm super pumped.
Great video! You guys came up to my neck of the woods and hit my favorite local shop. Glad to see Mark getting more publicity.
Does anyone know what size of whisker biscuit Ted us using with the fmj arrows he is shooting?? Is it a small or medium?
Help! I need a new compound bow. What's the best bow I can get for a budget for a beginner?
Still have my first Bear bow....killed plenty of deer. My nephew is set up with it right now! It’ll probably be my daughters first bow also....
What type of arrows do you guys shoot?
Check that hand torque. Fun to record yourself shooting and watch your form. Nice form @10:00 no torque. Pro Shops are the way to go for sure. Great content.
Is there a difference between bows in how well they hold a tuning? Do some bows need to be tuned more often than others?
You guys are always entertaining and educational👏 I'm trying my hardest to put the word out there🗣 it's amazing how many people in upstate New York have yet to hear about you guys😟
i don't even hunt but my father in law does and i found these guys and I'm getting my first bow soon. upstate new york 24 years
Great Video! Zach put that X Bow down! LMAO!
The problem with big box stores is that there level of technical skill varies wildly. I had to adjust every one of my 4Hers bows from Scheels this year. On the other hand, three years ago it was the pro shop that was setting everyone up with too long of a draw length. I also like to support small independent shops.
My opinion on buying a bow from bass pro, is that it is like getting a haircut at walmart
It’s really depends on the the employee working in bass pro. If the employee is good they can get you by at bass pro. But bass pro usually does not carry higher end archery products. They also have you bug cables and string to restring bow.
Support your local archery shop! Not some big box store!
I have 2 Bear Bows. The 2016 Cruze and the 2017 LS 6 that I just bought. I'm new to bow hunting also. Love you guys videos so keep posting them.
What arrows and broadhead do u like shooting and y thinking of switching my set up.
A+++ Video!!! I've been shooting the same bow since, oh gosh... 1994. It's made by "Xi". They've been out of business for over a decade. I think I was the 3rd owner of it when I bought it. I've been wanting to pull the trigger (so to speak) and buy me a brand new Mathews bow for years now. Have just been slow in writing the $1,200+ check to get it... haha Your video is VERY useful! Way to go THP!!!
Love archery field and sport. Both my bow and my dads are there getting some stuff updated and hope to pick up this week so i can get shooting next weekend.
What kind of sight is on ted’s bow?
I have a Bear Domain with a new Optimizer Altra sight .Shoots awesome
I like my hoyt carbon rx3 I got half off, it's so incredibly smooth and ez at 70lbs, and I love the not freezing your hands off, but I just got my 5 year old a bear royale, love everything about it except I wish it was carbon
I have the threat I love it it’s smooth as can be and it’s very fast and easy to sight in and paper tune
Archery Field and Sports is a top notch archery shop👍
Zach and I know what’s up, team Mathews. Love the use of the classic “rock and roll pt 2” song tho, always gets me hyped 😎
Zach shoots Bear now.
