    Wow! Talk about a rude slap in the face by reality, which is probably a good thing. I think everyone needs to re-evaluate the risks of riding from time to time. Watching that footage of your bud, Fonzi, really brought back memories from my similar fall last year in Big Bend. Similar scenario...big rock in the wrong place. It was just me and a buddy with 60 miles of desert between us and the nearest medical facility and my lower extremities were "tingling". Had to ride the bike out. No cell service, no land lines. No bueno. I was lucky though. No separations or broken vertebra. Just some seriously hyper extending of the C-spine. Live life, ride safe. ;-)

  • @shingnosis

    Seems like a well organized course but I wonder if you wouldn't learn more by simply getting a 125cc enduro bike and "fool around" for 4 days. In my humble opinion this kind of course is typical for people who've bought a big expensive "adventure bike" and don't know what to do with it. IMHO you need "the whole package". You need stamina, endurance, toughness, instincts, visual prowess and so on. These things don't happen overnight, it takes months if not years of training. If you really want to learn how to ride get a 125 enduro bike and learn to ride it full throttle everywhere, then get a 250 enduro bike and do the same. If you can do that you can handle ANYTHING after that.

    • @WhiteGravey
      @WhiteGravey 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +shingnosis you must weigh 50 lbs and be 10 years old to think you will get anything out of a 125cc bike. that or you like riding at 10mph

    Looks like it would be excellent training from a legend and appreciate the tips discussed and demo'd. Tough lessons learned, though, and unfortunate for the crashed riders. Since Dakar is now limited to 450 cc, why not do the same in this ToD instead of big, heavy ADV bikes? Seems RawHyde has the big ADV segment covered.

  • @dgasparotto
    @dgasparotto 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Well you wanted a taste of Dakar. I would say you got it. Not easy going on those large adventure bikes. Its a good thing you had recent training. Unless you're riding events and doing off road challenges regularly you need good training to keep up the riding skills.

    • @mechanicalman1068
      @mechanicalman1068 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@epicnomadreview3539 for sure. It’s the speed and hard surfaces. I think the Isle of Man riders would definitely say Dakar is more difficult and grueling though. As a former wannabe road racer getting back in to dirt riding and adventure riding in middle age, I’m here to tell you a short day at the offroad park is way tougher than a long track day. I don’t remember being sore road racing. Or crashing regularly.
      Basically that’s why I’m heading off road more. More fun, less big risk. Definitely not doing Dakar for sure though.

Have you never seen freestyle competition with the likes of Travis Pastrona (who once came 8th in Erzberg). Have you ever seen supper cross with the likes of James Stewart. Jay, Music to my ears. Legends, all of them. Im in SoCal and the crew and I have several interviews and rides filmed and in the process of editing folks at that level. Keep in mind that we are at the beginning of this series and just focusing on the intro stuff. If we try to hang with the guys you mentioned, I'll go home in a body bag. It'll get more technical, I promise. The guys around me are Brock Glover, Jeremy McGrath, Jeff Ward and more are on our hit list. We'll get there.

      Pastrana or Jonny Walker or James Stewart could be the best of the best in supercross, freestyle or what ever. Dakar is beyond your tecnique. Its about inteligence, money, luck, self impruvment and of cource to know how to ride a bike lol.
      There is a guy here in Argentina running the dakars in the last few years he is the best in the country in the enduro style his name is Javier Pisolito, but with out an official bike he would never compite or at least have the same oportunitys than the top pilots because of many aspects. he is great but his bike isnt that good, his backup isnt there, his service team isnt that good etc...

      Carl Marsh no I agree, overly dramatic language. On a separate note, starting out on a 1200 gsa is a helluva lot of bike to learn to ride off-road on. That being said, i think learning to ride off-road on a big bike makes you a better rider than a smaller bike because you really have to learn to pike your lines and ride well and you can't just muscle around the bike like you could with a smaller bike. Going from a klr 650, nowhere as big as a 1200 gsa, to a kym690 make the ktm zoo much easier to ride off-road.

    The video is good but please make accurate comments because it's destroying your credibility. The most dangerous race in the world was an obvious one but describing Fonzis get off as going 30feet from the bike was clearly inaccurate too. It looks about 10 at most. You can see the bike in the footage. Accuracy please otherwise we done trust what you say. Thanks!

      The Ride of My Life ...sorrry you need to watch the evidence. I am guessing you added this commentary a while later. Facts are important. Your viewers will decide for themselves how accurate you are being. Still think your videos are interesting though.

    Good video. But practice on cheaper bikes more before you go waste a load of dollars. Then do more practice on these expensive machines if you really want them. You can easily spend less dollars and get a better bike for this. Seems like money, hubris and hope over brains and experience. Sorry.

    Er actually, it is far less dangerous than the real dakar.....Try doing 1000 kms every day for 18 days with not enough food and sleep.... That's a lot more dangerous....
