Had my G29 for 6 years and no way it sounds that bad...Actually it works great and is quiet for a lower price wheel...I still beat most players with higher end direct force wheels.
@@richnick1911 I'm really enjoying it. Quite an upgrade from G29. True force is great, pedal adjustment is very easy. No tools. Software is easy to navigate and use. Force feed back is awesome. No regrets.
I spent hours at a friend's place, churning laps on the Nürburgring with that wheel, and it was my very first experience with a decent racing sim kit for a low price - and I only ever played with gamepads and budget, no force feedback wheels until then. Now christmas flew past and left a nice gift card, courtesy of my employer, so now I'm expecting a visit from uncle Bezos' couriers with this bad boy in his truck. I know what direct drive wheels feel like since we have a racing sim at work, and it's strong enough to rip your arms off your torso, but considering I put 100 bucks of my own pocket in the G29, I'm sure I'll have hours of fun improving my racing lines and beat my colleagues on the workplace leaderboard😄
I got the g29 last month and it was a great first sim wheel. the only problem that i really care about is the noise. It does annoy me a lot but other than that its a great first wheel and a big upgrade from my PlayStation controller.😅 Recommend the g29 as a starter to the wheel community
After over 10 years on a Logitech Driving Force Pro, I upgraded to a G29 in 2017. Over all, the performance is acceptable for the price, but there are a few pain points to be aware of. Firstly, the rotary switch can be pretty flaky. I've mapped those functions to the d-pad instead because it's just not reliable enough. Apparently this is fixed on the G923. That's a minor problem compared to the pedal potentiometers though. You can be guaranteed they will be the first thing to go wrong with the wheel. My accelerator (always the first to go) went bad after about two years of infrequent use. It starts off with a bit of noise in the signal and soon enough it's unplayably bad. Spraying the pot with contact cleaner sometimes gives me a few hours of proper performance, but it's shorter each time. Swapping the clutch (much less prone to or sensitive to wear) and accelerator gives you another pot to play with, but it's ultimately delaying the inevitable. Many, many people have tried to source replacement pots, but their specifications are unique to the Logitech pedals, so there are no off the shelf replacements. Logitech is absolutely no help to anyone who asks about parts. I finally found some replacements from AXC Sim, but the cost to rebuild an entire pedal set is about half that of buying a new wheel. Normally I wouldn't give publicity to a product I haven't tried yet, but so many people are getting nowhere in their search for replacements that it feels immoral to talk about the problem without mentioning the most promising solution I've found so far. It stings less than the fact that Logitech treats their products as disposable items to be replaced once the warranty is up. The pedals for all G-series wheels are essentially the same, meaning this problem is common to all of them. Be aware of this if you decide to buy used.
You have to open the potentiometer, spray the cleaner and wipe it off with ear cleaning buds, you'll see they get black. That's what I do everytime and I went 2 years with all working fine
it truly is irking me how much hate the g29 is getting in the racing corners of the youtube. but it's really good for the price and not everybody needs to sweat[literally] with a direct drive. if you can get it for the price you paid or less, it's a no brainer for an entry level racer and i will never not recommend it. it's the only entry level wheel I've ever used, and i was perfectly content with it for 6 years as a mostly casual racer until recently. the casual user simply does not need or want anything better than the g29 and it's just wasted money unless they instantly convert to being a hardcore racer to justify that 1000+ price tag(not americans don't have the luxury of domestic shipping options)
the shifters can be modded to magnetic too i think, though i never really used them. or invest in their driving force shifter which will need some mods itself to feel right, but it's the cheapest shifter on the market, so what can you expect lol
