Hi. Im only able to get 2 or 3 prints out of a frame before the ink stops going through the screen and onto the shirt in spots. Do you have advice? Thanks.
Great! If you are just getting started and are looking for a more in-depth explanation, check out my Beginners Course, I walk you through the entire process from start to finish: www.pigskinsandpigtails.com/introduction-to-screen-printing-with-craft-vinyl/
Jennifer, You are very talented at your craft. You are so great at explaining your techniques, what works best, and where to get supplies. I love that you are straight to the punch and do not loose your focus. I thank you so much for updating and answering questions asked by all. Thank you for sharing when to use permanent and non permanent vinyl. This is great to know especially if we would like to keep a design and reuse it. Thank you!!!
This is so simply explained, I appreciate it. Just quick question. I tried 651 but it’s nightmare to get it to stick and letters and details not peel off when removing the transfer tape. You made it look so easy. How do I get to that level? TIA.
Thanks! The right transfer tape makes all the difference here. If it is too sticky it can be a nightmare. This is the one that I use and sell (it has just the right amount of tack for this step): www.pigskinsandpigtails.com/a/my-transfer-tape
Hi Jennifer, I'm new here & I bought my screen printing kit from Michaels. The kit came with the 8x10" screen, large squeegee, a stir stick, parchment paper, instructions, some vinyl & transfer tape. The large squeegee doesn't fit inside the screen, from top to bottom; so could I use it side to side & still get the same effect. Thanks in advance
I just line up the short end of the vinyl on the mat, then press the rest of the sheet down. A brayer helps to make sure the vinyl is flat on the mat: www.pigskinsandpigtails.com/a/cricut-brayer
Is there anyway possible you can make a step-by-step tutorial on the HTV vinyl and getting it to stick onto your screen for screen printing permanently because I want to use this method but I wanna make sure that I’m doing it 100% right
@@pigskinsandpigtails OK one more thing instead of me using heat transfer vinyl to do permanent is it possible to just use permanent vinyl? Would that be like the same thing?

I was curious if you had heard about the new screen print kit from we r memory keepers? It’s exclusive to hsn until the end of the year, I believe. But I’m curious to hear your thoughts on it. Anyway, thanks for sharing!
Can you just use an iron to iron the permanent vinyl to the screen? I don't have a flat iron like the Cricut version. If I need to get one I will, just curious as I'm starting out. Getting ready to do my first non permanent screen print now, but I know I want to keep this design in house. We print only on wood.
I wouldn’t recommend using an iron for this- it’s really hard to keep the design totally flat when you are ironing it- you don’t want any creases at all. A heat press is the best option, but an Easy Press also works because you can cover all of the design at once.
No, it isn’t necessary to put parchment paper over the HVT when heat pressing because it still has the backing film. If I am using my heat press, I will put down a sheet on the under side just in case to protect my press from any adhesive. The lowering the temperature ensures that the vinyl doesn’t melt.
The stick side of the vinyl goes against the screen. Most designs have intricate cuts and details that need to stay in exactly the same space. That’s where the transfer tape comes in, it holds the design together so you can get it on the screen without any distortion. Most transfer tape is too sticky for this process and can be a real pain, this is my favorite: www.pigskinsandpigtails.com/a/my-transfer-tape

Hi Jennifer, thanks for explaining everything. I do have a question, I used cricut premium vinyl (it does say removable matte on the top now that I look closer at it) When I went to put it on the screen I had bubbles that I couldnt get rid of. will I have the bubble problem if I use the oracle 651? What if I went with the siser weed? Thank You.
You can find the two types of vinyl I talk about in this video (along with more screen printing essentials) linked here on my supply list: www.pigskinsandpigtails.com/screen-printing-supply-list/
I have been trying my hardest to screen cardboard boxes and paper bags. It always bleeds and looks the worst. Vinyl on the top or bottom? have done both. I used my Cricut smart vinyl and also the same. I bought the speedball kit. Please help lol
I recommend putting the vinyl on the bottom of the screen and using Oracal 651: www.pigskinsandpigtails.com/a/oracal-651 When you are printing on paper based materials like bags and cardboard, remember that the ink doesn’t get absorbed like it does into fabric so you want to make sure you use really thin coats (try to only go over it once).
Yes, when you are making a permanent screen with HTV, you will cut the vinyl with the shiny side down just as you normally would. Just remember you do not need to mirror your design for this process.
Try washing your screen- I’ve had this happen randomly a few times and it was because there was wither Speed Clean residue or dust on the screen. After giving it a good rinse with water, I didn’t have any problems with the vinyl sticking.
my issue is possibly the transfer tape is too strong =( when I go to pull it off the vinyl, it maybe stretches the vinyl and leaves an area that won't lay flat again no matter what. can you let me know what transfer tape you use exactly, please? thank you
That is one of the biggest issues I see when people are starting out screen printing with vinyl. This is my favorite transfer tape, it has just the right tack for this process: www.pigskinsandpigtails.com/a/my-transfer-tape
I use Speedball screen printing inks and screens. You can buy them all individually, or in a kit. There is a link to my Speedball kit: www.pigskinsandpigtails.com/a/speedball-beginner-screen-printing-kit
So after you’ve finished screen printing the shirt, you let it sit to dry or use a heat gun. How do you know when it’s dry? Then, when you heat set the ink, you said to use 320 degrees for 20 seconds in a heat press… do I use parchment paper over the ink? After that, it can be washed in a washing machine/dryer without the design coming off?
The right transfer tape makes a huge difference. This is my favorite: www.pigskinsandpigtails.com/a/my-transfer-tape If you have recently washed your screen, be sure that it is dry and there isn’t any soap/residue on the mesh!
For the 651 vinyl, when done screen printing with it, can I just scoop up the remaining ink with a paper towel and leave it as is or do I need to remove the vinyl and paint before next use?
Yes, you will want to scoop up any left over ink (I always save it for my next project and add it right back into the ink jar). Remove the vinyl and wash the screen before the ink dries so that you can reuse the screen for your next project.
Does it matter if the adhesive vinyl is permanent or removable? I know you used the Oracle brand but I'm not super familiar with it. I have cricut brand vinyl and it comes in permanent or removable and I just wanted to know if it mattered which one I used.
You want to use permanent vinyl. Removable vinyl will not hold up very long on the screen and will eventually cause the ink to start bleeding through. I use Oracal 651 because it holds up very well (I’ve printed hundreds of shirts with one one piece of vinyl)
That’s a 20x24” Speedball frame and it fits perfectly under my 15x15” ProWorld Press. Check out this video all about the screens I use: th-cam.com/video/tMIbqNbA4Jc/w-d-xo.html

For the first option for screen printing the adhesive vinyl , in the circuit do I put the white part facing down or the shinny side ?
With adhesive vinyl, you always want the vinyl facing up (the paper backing should be facing the mat)- remember to mirror your design!

Yes! Any vinyl cutter will work
Where did you get your ink that in the background on the shelf?
Those are all of the mixed inks from my Ink Recipe Guides 😊 www.pigskinsandpigtails.com/ink-recipe-guides/
