  • Here we have a Kamov Ka-32A11BC Russian Helicopter C-GURI of VIH Helicopters seen starting up and taking off from CZNL in Nelson, British Columbia to of fight some wildfires in the area. What a machine! This helicopter is powered by a pair of Klimov (Izotov) TV3-117V gas turbine engines. The Kamov Ka-32 is the civilian version of the Kamov Ka-27.

aah the sound of chopper! But the tail boom seems much smaller when compared to the body size of the helicopter. Interesting.

a coaxial rotors helicopter doest need a anti torque rotor and so no long tail...the vertical fins are use as stabilizators at high speed

i remember seing a kamov helicopter once on a program on discovery channel called "x machines". I got obsessed with it. The heli was used to move big pipes to mountain tops so they could be used as "avalanche triggers" so that the 2014 winter games in sochi had low to no risk of having sudden avalanches. Unfortunatly, i can't find ANY footage of what i think the kamov model or paint scheme was. Has anyone ever seen that thing fly and knows wich model it is ?

Same model Ka-32, both my father and mother worked on the factory, that is producing those hellicopters

When it comes to aircraft I'm pretty well versed. However helicopters still remain only of slight interest, despite on having flown in a few different models. The dual stacked rotor blades are interesting. Was this model the only type of it's kind engineered like so? I'm familiar with duel operating rotors like you see on the Chinook CH-47 but not like on thus one. Odd yet interesting of course!
