One thing is for it to have clear video, but another thing is of what it produces is useful as in capturing clear license plates. Which from your sample footage it did not.
I just installed one in my pickup. If you set it up correctly, the recordings are clear. It’s voice operated and will turn 180 degrees and look behind. When parked it monitors the whole vehicle by sensing motion and movement. You can take stills and recording by voice command. Once it’s connected to power, ground and accessory it stays monitoring. The amp draw is very small and won’t draw down battery. If you’re concerned about battery draw just unplug it.
Do you need the UP03 kit if you want to use night and day surveillance while the car is parked? Just wondering due to you saying that the battery draw was a small. I need surveillance mainly. Not sure how I feel about having a dash cam. Never considered it until now. It is the surveillance that I need first and foremost. Someone may be targeting my brand new car.😳
@@priestlybride I did get the kit that makes the connection permanent. You’ll need to identify 12vdc power and ground, and a power supply that is connected to the ignition switch. When the vehicle is parked and not running the camera records movement around it. When the car is started the camera powers up for recording while moving. You can review what the camera has seen and download the video to your smartphone.
Mine only videos for about a minute and cuts off so it’s not showing anything as it goes down the road and furthermore, it requires Wi-Fi in the car or a hotspot on my phone and it only works when the phone is hooked up or in the car with the Wi-Fi so if you go into the restaurant you take your phone turn off your car how in the world is it gonna monitor any security like it says it monitors for an hour it does not
this is a useful cam...when somebody walks to the side...it can turn and record...even when after walking to the side when that somebody opens the door too hard and causes a ding or dent...he or she cannot escape even when he or she drives the car off...it can record the plate number...
Nice video Matt, I just received my Omni came yesterday and looking to install the 4G kit. You should do a video on the steps to do this, and the set-up of the simcard etc.
Reading comments seems like 4G still unavailable in the U.S . You can’t use the features the hardwire gives AI motion detection, no real time monitoring,no insta App alert We’re paying exactly the same but not get same features, we believe its a ripoff.
I may return my whole setup. My kit comes tomorrow. Not really liking the dash cam part either. For the price not any thing to write home about. Feel the system is not robust. Does not do what it says it can do on a consistent basis.
I have it with 4G kit installed, it is very easy to set up, just put a nano SIM in the tray and through the app you set it to recognize the module. It got all the carrier settings automatically. I'm going with Brazilian carrier Vivo, and I know people that are going with Claro. No issues at all (although stores say it isn't available in Brazil).
@rodro0509 usually it lasts for about 2 days without turning the ignition on, but it depends on how many events it detects. If there is too many movement around, it won't last more than one whole day, because it'll be uploading videos and thus draining the battery. Note that the camera relies on its own battery, and the car battery is for powering up the 4G module. When the camera battery goes low, the 4G module sends a notification to inform that the camera is shutting down. There is a small amount of charge that the 4G module does to the camera, but at a minimum voltage threshold, it stops sending power and the camera run on its own. The camera is very smart though, my only regret is buying just one unit when taxes and fees were low here in Brazil, because now the price literally doubled.
With plastic parts, how long will it work sitting in the hottest place on the dashboard before it melts, warps and dies.? Probably not too long here in Florida.
It has a back up lithium ion battery, rather than a capacitor, so battery failure under extreme temperature conditions is a definite issue. If it's even close to 100 deg. F outside, the car interior can reach 140 to 160 deg. F. Here in Canada, they also fail when temperatures drop to minus 40 deg. F.

If I get the "always on" kit, how does 70Mai Omni impact a normal 12 car battery over, say, 8 hours while I'm at work? I assume that if you drive an EV, battery draw isn't an issue.
It Will continue to record through the car's battery . Unless there is a possibility of overload/hazard, he will automatically disconnect to protect the battery.
@@Sonny15-215over here in Brazil 70mai stores say 4G is unavailable, which isn't true, I bought it and it works straightforward. I even know people going with a different carrier with no issues.
When in parking, the dashcam will turn on if the car has been hit, and it will turn around 360° until it finds something unusual (another car moving, or an human with suspicious behaviour)
If your car is parked with the camera facing forward and someone approaches from the front, the camera should use motion recognition to identify the person's presence and then should track them if they move to the back of your vehicle. If the camera is facing forward and someone approaches from the rear, it will not detect them. If someone or something bumps the car from the rear, the camera should swivel to film the rear. If you park in a garage, with your vehicle facing the back wall of your garage, you can rotate the camera to the rear position before leaving your car. If someone then opens your garage door and approaches from the rear, the camera should see them. Notice that I said "should" several times. lol.
It would have been omni if recording all around continuously, not just panning a limited field of view, while leaving the other areas uncovered. It's useless if facing backwards when an accident happens, of if facing forward when another car is ramming from behind.
but Matt shows it can read road signs in rainy and extreme weather. I think it can certainly read the license plate while driving. this will not be a problem
You called it "crap" because you couldn't read 1 license plate? That's pretty coarse . You don't like it, don't buy it. But don't degrade it calling the item "crap". I've been using dashcams for quite a while and I've found them very useful even I can't read license plate information.
To read plates you need to be running the 60 fps feature. Then it works well if your approaching a vehicle stopped in front of you or if your following very close. Not many on the market can read U.S. style plates of vehicles approaching from the oncoming lane.
360 which means it has a 25% chance of actually be filming in the right direction. My cam has cabin, front and rear camera's recording simultaneously. Paid ad sellout
Yes, several TH-cam reviewers have tested the motion detection feature and found it not to work. It also would not lock onto a person approaching the vehicle and track them as they moved to the side, or back of the vehicle. Some defective products, or all???
How does it detect rear collisions if it is facing front? Does it detect before impact and camera spins automatically?
