    Well you've done it again! I just ordered one of the 26" multi purpose axe yesterday as a Valentine's gift to me from my wife for $95 from Acme Tools! Can't wait! Thanks for another great review Eugene!

    Even with out a Welt on the sheath (which there should be). The brass rivets shouldn't deny or affect the steal edge. Brass is Much softer.

    • @WojciechP915
      @WojciechP915 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      eh I wouldn't be so sure of that. If you took a wood working axe and struck a giant lump of brass, it would still blunt it.

    • @WomanRespectorMD
      @WomanRespectorMD 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that's why they use brass, that chip may be from something else or maybe faulty tempering in the bit

    Удивился когда по русски заговорили.
    Удачи вам.

    I sanded my handle smooth and then used a stain wax by minwax to seal the wood grain with a thin layer of linseed afterward. I always finish my axe handles like furniture. I added an overstrike guard made out of a bicycle inner tube and friction tape. Then I made a lace up leather guard to go over that. The Husqvarna axe is entirely like the smaller head swedish axes. They were designed to work in a boreal pine forest. That isnt a negative point. I found a low cost whole head cover and then a scabbard for a shotgun that will carry the axe and have room for a machete sheath on the backside with molle attachments to add what you need with you. I use my Husqvarna axe with the Husqvarna chainsaw so it is my limbing axe. If I need to do heavier axe work I bring a full sized axe.

      I wouldn't waste your money on this axe... it seems like a great deal but these axes are notorious for snapping at the bit... Look at the reviews on Amazon. Literally multiple people had their axes break in the same exact spot. Hope yours doesnt do that

      That was a manufacturing problem around 2015-2017. They’ve commented on it and said it’s back under control. If you change the amazon reviews to show most recent you won’t see any more of that at all.
      This axe is a bargain.

    I just bought this axe, got it on sale for 45$ (in Roumania), the only negative part was the grind.. but with a bit of work turns out just fine. And they upgraded the sheath, now it has that leather inner layer that protects the edge. The grain on the handle it's not that perfect like u may find on a more expensive axe.. like the gransfors (i do have a hatchet from them and it's just perfect) but since i don't plan on bringing down large trees, more like trimming around the house and some fire wood, i hope it will last. It came with no varnish, just oiled (by the smell i think it's linseed oil), just how i wanned. Over all, for now, i'm satisfied with the quality and the balance (it feels great in my hands, i can swing it all day long) truly an all purpose axe.

    Looks pretty impressive, I'd like to see how it splits, especially hardwoods. I just bought a Husq small spitting axe, same thing, the finish is rough and there is even a chip in the edge. Huge head compared to Gransfors small splitting axe, odd geometry too.

    • @vladislavreutov3807
      @vladislavreutov3807 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sadly, its a horrible splitter. Have the exact same one for a year now and mostly had to split birch with it, that is, to say... Frustrating and paingull. Its mostly due to geometry, that is made for falling trees and cutting deep. Splitting axes are usually waay thicker and are wedge shaped. This one is more of a spatula design, so the only splitting that happens is around the eye, and maan, its a long way to get there. Otherwise its a really good axe and is one of my most prized tools!

    These are Hults bruk axes...great axe maker..Every bit as good as Gransfor for sure

    • @cosmicbilly
      @cosmicbilly 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No they're not. Last time i checked Gransfors bruks axes don't snap at the bit where the husqvarna logo is... Theres tons of reviews from people who bought this axe and the bit snapped off right where the logo is. Not just once or twice.. but alot of people experience the same exact thing.

    • @joshuadocter2277
      @joshuadocter2277 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cosmicbilly That's true for their axes made a few years back. I heard that they've addressed that issue and have been great since then.

    • @cosmicbilly
      @cosmicbilly 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@joshuadocter2277 the issue was their makers mark being too deep. Thats why they all break in the same spot... every Husqvarna multi purpose axe i see has really deep markers marks which scares me because that obviously means the steal is compromised in that area... I really want to love this axe. Aesthetically it's beautiful. But im worried i would snap the bit off as soon as i use it on some harder knotty wood.. The Hultafors felling axe looks more like an axe for me.

    Say Heah, When I finally got my 26" Husqvarna, It looked great, But on closer inspection there was a little glue around the eye, That didn't bother me But the eye was defective, That bothered since safety is paramount on a axe. So Robert at Bailey's was very nice and I was able to exchange it for a Ochsenkopf Axe which I am familiar with Iltis since I had a House Axe made with a Iltis Oxhead, Yeah I got a close size Axe to the Husqvarna, I got the 260 E-1257, it's 700mm heft and 2.2lbs head, But I got it with the steel sleeve and eye plate and I just paid the difference, Thanx Robert at Bailey's. Eugene can your father make a heavy duty sheath with sling like my 24" Council Wood Craft Pack Axe, Lemme know Puh-lease.

    Yes,I've seen the sheath for sale on Amazon,though it's always out of stock.The ax itself on Amazon is $77 + free shipping.I have the Husqy hatchet,and use it alot.Not shaving sharp,but came with a decent factory edge.I' m checking the reviews on the ax before I buy it.Sure would save alot of time using an ax over a saw,assuming it's kept sharp.But the reason I use a saw is that I want a clean cut when building a shelte,r or say, poles for a tripod,etc.Nevertheless,for clearing an area of small trees,an ax would be what I'd need.Thanks for the review.

    • @ReviewOutdoorGear
      @ReviewOutdoorGear  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Russell Suender, the sheaths will be up for sale shortly, check back soon. It's difficult to keep with the demand. Also, about axes vs saws: having used both, I'd say that a good saw is actually quicker and more efficient at cutting down a small tree, but an axe always has its place.

      I believe having an ax should be a must for the wood'sman.Though I have the Husqvarna hatchet,which is more for carving,and carpentry chores,as well as a Bahco Laplander folding saw in my pack,a decent Swedish ax is a necessity as well.Could you possibly email me at r_suend111@yahoo.com to let me know when these sheaths(actually known as ax or hatchet "mask")are available again?Thanks for your speedy reply.

What I need as you can see from the three images I sent you today is a sheath for this particular axe with a strap at least an inch longer than what I have been rcv'g. Yes, I have your throat guard installed but as you can see from the third picture I sent this morning it is still short even if I move the guard out of the way which has not been necessary on the 13" curved handle hatchet nor the Council Tools Hudson Bay Axe that I have set up similarly. After watching your awesome review, I went ahead and purchased this axe for Christmas. Was also lucky enough to purchase your sheath for Christmas as well. Super lucky that it came in the dark brown version. I even sanded it down and did the boiled linseed oil as well. Took it out last week for the first time and cracked the handle by overstriking. I'm super bummed and am wondering if this is covered under the warranty to send back? Or do I just chalk this up as a loss due to lack of chopping wood experience? I have your awesome sheath now with no axe. What do you think I should do? I see that amazon now is selling tihs axe for 60 bucks. last time I ordered from amazon, they sent me the carpenter's axe by mistake. I'd hate to go through that again. Now I am torn between just going with the fiskers x25 while I am getting some practice or do you think i should try my luck again with the husqvarna? Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated. Again, your sheath is awesome!

      +Kacia Sato why not just replace the handle yourself? You can order a new handle or make one. It isn't that hard to hang the heads to a handle.

    In a pinch can the back be used to hammer in nails or is it to smooth?

  • @Mrmtl100

    so its not good if i use it as a hammer?

    • @ReviewOutdoorGear
      @ReviewOutdoorGear  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Montreal Yess , No. Most of the axe head is softer metal (only cutting edge is tempered), so if you use it as a hammer it might widen and handle could become loose.

    *Brother, You may be one experienced outdoorsman, but if I may give you a piece of advice, **9:34** NEVER ever shave branches with feet on each side of the log. Because the axe may ricochet into your shin.I had a friend, who insisted on doing exactly like you did on **9:34**.. I said, stop, don't stand in that position. Idiot continued, and what do you know, the axe hit his shin..You should stand on the opposite side of the log where you are shaving branches of, that way, if you miss, it will ricochet outwards away from you and won't hit your leg as you're protected by the log itself.*

    Wanted one of these axes until I just read some amazon reviews. A lot of people had their axe heads break! And Husqvarna wouldn't help after only 90 days. NO THANKS! I don't do business with companies like that.

    • @cosmicbilly
      @cosmicbilly 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly! And from what ive been reading its STILL a problem. Peoples who bought this axe said it broke the same day they bought it. Waste of money. Glad i didnt buy it. Its a beautiful axe... Just not really reliable.

    • @stonewintjen505
      @stonewintjen505 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cosmic Billy the axe is still in great condition and of great quality. I cleaned the handle up with linseed oil and fire burned it a touch. The axe head is great still works great and is good quality it is just too light for heavy chopping. I prefer a heavier head for chopping but for small stuff and limbing and pounding wedges t works great(assuming they’re plastic)

  • @chris770
    @chris770 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Learn how to cut a tree properly, learn how to aim. Also just because the axe cuts paper doesn't mean the cutting geometry is good (it's crap from new). Also no mention of the terrible fat handle these come with, the poly finish that should be removed... List goes on. I have one of these axes and I love it but straight from the store it needs a lot of work (beyond just polishing the edge).. You and Wranglegodboy can go praise whoever you like but if you keep cutting trees like that and having them fall in your face you won't be prising no-one.

    • @joeyjones9041
      @joeyjones9041 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd love to see your video on reprofiling the edge geometry and proper axemanship. I also have this axe and it didn't come with a poly coating on the handle. I just lightly sanded it and put boiled linseed oil on it.
