    Good video, thanks for it. I bought one, it was on sale (49.22 USD, Hungary), I really like it! The full price is normally $94.25....

    I just bought this axe, got it on sale for 45$ (in Roumania), the only negative part was the grind.. but with a bit of work turns out just fine. And they upgraded the sheath, now it has that leather inner layer that protects the edge. The grain on the handle it's not that perfect like u may find on a more expensive axe.. like the gransfors (i do have a hatchet from them and it's just perfect) but since i don't plan on bringing down large trees, more like trimming around the house and some fire wood, i hope it will last. It came with no varnish, just oiled (by the smell i think it's linseed oil), just how i wanned. Over all, for now, i'm satisfied with the quality and the balance (it feels great in my hands, i can swing it all day long) truly an all purpose axe.

      I recently ordered one of these and received it yesterday. I have had the Husqvarna Carpenter's axe for a long time, and I love it, but I wanted something with a longer handle and designed for green wood. However, I was very surprised when I looked at the axe head on the new axe, and disappointed. Not only was it not sharp, it looked like it had maybe been passed across the grinder two or three times on one side and only once on the other. It looked like a very bad chisel grind. I live in a very rural area and I was not willing to wait for a return. I spent an hour on the wheel grinder and belt sander, and then another hour with two different wet stones. It looks and works great now, but there is no way that this head should have made it out of the factory, it was so obvious. Having another Husqvarna axe, as well as a Hults Bruk hatchet, I was expecting so much more. I understand that you cannot inspect every item that goes out of the factory, but you could have a ten point inspection at your last production station. To offer one last opinion, I think that the head on this axe is a little light.

      Is there any difference between this Husqvarna forest axe & the Husqvarna 26" Multi-purpose axe?
      Also, I live in Victoria, BC Canada on Vancouver Island. Can you please refer me to a local dealer or a Canadian venue I can order this axe from. Ordering from the USA is prohibitively expensive with the exchange rate, delivery fees & especially the import tariffs & duties my all-wise government insists on imposing. Thank-you for any info. Cheers.

    great review Brian, I've used this exact axe at a buddy's place and found that it was hung nicely and has a good balance between length and weight. too bad for him he cant sharpen it worth a pinch, I desperately wanted to fix it for him but seeing how he treats it, I kept my mouth shut. I love the council tool velvicut Hudson bay pattern axe with the longer handle (24"), but man the price! $140.00 then shipping. cant see that happening when I have a Husqvarna dealer 20 minutes from home. thanks Chris

    Never mind it chipping the edge. The gaurd is there to protect you. Phone them. And GB make those axes they own all the companies, and make for other companies. My GB small forest axe is not as good as that. The grain is wrong and it had several bevels and a very thin toe on the edge. You do a bit of work to that axe and you will probably have a axe the same as any GB axe!. Put a good convex edge on it, a working edge not a paper cutting edge, that will be to thin. Its a axe not a razer. Enjoy!

    All Husqvarna axes ship with a coating of that clear coat varnish crap on the handle that most axe makers are using these days. But it's good American hickory and an hour or so with a spokeshave, some sandpaper, and a quart of boiled linseed oil, you get a fantastic Swedish axe that's just as good as a Gränsfors Bruk or Wetterlings at half the price so you aren't afraid to use it. The guys over at YAE make good leather sheaths for most of the Husq line too.

    Not sure why most manufactureres put the rivets across the cutting edge so that they knock chips out of the blade if dropped.....I made my own sheath to avoid this......

  • @paulie4x1
    @paulie4x1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Say Heah Brian, Yeah, I got a pretty good deal, I was able to get a Hultafors Bruks 17" Agdor range Hatchet, Even though I really didn't need another hatchet since I have a Gransfors Bruks Small Forest Axe and a 14 " Estwing Sportsman Hatchet, but I got it at a closeout price because their dropping the Agdor for another range, anyhow, and it's right in the middle between 14" and 20", But I also found out that H B strikes the steel several times during the forging process that makes the steel better, Yeah, you have a very good one since your Husqvarna was made by Hultafors Bruks, at one time Husk ' s were made by Wetterlings, But I think Hults are great too, Mine came out spot on, the edge was centered perfect and the wood grain was as good as my G B, it didn't take long for ne to put a edge on my Hults just like on my G B, Now that the colder weather is upon us, I like using it to process more firewood instead of going with my smaller 2Hawks Double Bit Hatchet which is also one of my Fav's, but with a 1 3/4 lbs. head, Axe Tapping just makes short work out of making kindling, Yeah, Buddy, You have a good one tgere, I would like to Wish you a Merry Christmas, ,

    Nice review man... beginner question and comment in relation to the nick on the edge.. I’m a fairly new knife maker of about 2 years and one of the tests I run on my blade after heat treat and temper is to place my blade on a 1/4” brass rod and baton on the spine. Insuring that the edge will hold up. If this holds up to a 1/8” 1095 or O1 tool steel blade, shouldn’t an axe do so even more so?? Is it that the steel or temper sub par? This isn’t the first I’ve heard of this on this brand and others as well. Thanks!

    I realise this video is a couple years old but any response would be greatly appreciated. Where did you order the axe. I'm sure that not only myself would benefit from this answer. BTW, I had the same thing happen the with the sheaths on some axes I ordered from Italy. One sheath was well made with heavy leather & full welt but two were thin cheap material with no welt & exposed rivets. I don't know why a reputable axe maker would do this. It's fortunate you had that sheath & it looks like a perfect fit with the additional snap.
    Thanks for showing & telling us about your new axe. Are there any differences between this forest axe & Husqvarna's multi-purpose 26" axe? Any info would be good & again, please tell us where you ordered it from. Cheers.

      Imightberiding i got this one from a vendor on Amazon. The forest are and multipurpose are are the same. If I remember right, Husqvarna has 3 models : forest/multipurpose, carpenters, and small hatchet. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

    • @Imightberiding
      @Imightberiding 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your response. I know of all three that you mentioned, I just wasn't sure if this was a new different axe. I have since found out elsewhere as well that it is indeed the same axe as the multi-purpose just called by a different name.
      People call it a forest axe, a multi-purpose axe & one uploader here on TH-cam refers to it by the long moniker of: "The Husqvarna Traditional Multi-purpose Hunting axe".

    Maybe a little too worried about a chip in the cutting edge. It's an axe. Kinda like having a 4X4 and worried about a scratch on it. Man up.

    • @dixieforcefive
      @dixieforcefive  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jason Bullard, or maybe its a legitimate concern that the sheath causes damage because the manufacturer didn't include a welt. If my axe gets a chip, I want it to be because I caused it during hard use, not because it got bumped while the mask was attached. Thanks for taking the time comment though, and hiding behind the internet to call out my manhood.....
