I keep getting asked if I still like the axe and if I still recommend it so I thought I would do another review and share my thoughts 2 years later.

I stick with my statement I made two years ago "If I could only have one axe this would it."
Here are a few things you want to know about this axe.
1) These axes are hand forged in Sweden.
2) The head is 1.9lbs and weighs a total of 3lbs with a 26" hickory handle.
3) The consumer warranty for wooden axes is 90 days.
Disclosure: This axe was given to me by Husqvarna to test but this review was done out of my own satisfaction for the tool and was not part of our agreement.

Hi there... 4 years ago you made a vid and uploaded it to youtube. Since then I watch all your stuff. I am a huge fan. I live in Germany in a rather crowded city and miss the nature. So whenever you upload something new it feels like beeing with you in the woods. I really enjoy it. I never commented on your vids but since you mentioned the rude people I feel I need to step up for you. I always took your vids for granted but you are right: it is work shooting them and thinking of new ideas. Your vids are calm and peaceful and your reviews are honest and nice. So I don't get why people write bad stuff. If they would be in the woods as often as you are in them they would appreciate your reviews or at least be so kind and would not be rude when they had tips for you. So to end my text: if you don't mind please continue to make such nice videos. They are little gems in the youtube world. And I think I am not the only one to feel that. I wish you all the best. Hello, my name is Peter. I live in Eastport, Maine; an area we refer to as "Downeast." I grew up in New Hampshire, but have been here for about 16 years. The nature and wildlife of this region has engrained itself into my heart and soul. I'll be leaving everything I love about this earth in body, as I am moving to an urbanized area of our state to be with the woman I love. As the time has drawn near, I have found myself being drawn into bushcraft. I purchased my first axe a few weeks ago - a Hultafors forest axe. I paid top dollar for it, and I do like it. However, the dealer sent me the less than premium version. I was pretty disappointed, as the axe was dull out of the box and the traditional markings on the head were incomplete. I was still excited to have it though because I wasn't purchasing an axe as much as a growing sense of purpose. The axe you shared in this review is a perfectly capable tool that will offer a long life of enjoyment outdoors. Your tool is only as good as your care for it - no matter the price. I also don't get the negativity from some people, it's one thing to offer advice or helpful hints learned through experience or from others but it's another thing to just criticize or knock someone. It’s great to see you address the “comments from the haters” as a content creator with a tiny channel I was kind of taken back by how brash people can be on here. One trick I use in order to get a 'premium fit' of a haft , is to do the final fitting while the head is hot. I give it a few minutes in boiling water then fit and drive the wedge. This give a small, but significant expansion of the eye which contracts when it cools. I never glue wedges and aim to leave 3/16 " of the saw kerf unfilled so when it gets a little loose, there is room to drive the wedge that little bit further using a drift. On initial fitting, I don't use a steel wedge .
This leaves a 'metal free' clear space to fit a metal round wedge if the head comes loose on you out in the woods.

Nicely said. People, stand up for us content creators when others say mean things! This past year I have really taken a beating in the comments haha, and I feel it will only get worse as the channel grows. Anyway, great video! I actually wanted one of these for a while and finally bought it about 6 months ago after watching your initial review on it, and I absolutely love it. People always ask me why I bother bringing a full axe out to the woods even on my small day trips, but they don't understand how amazing this axe feels to use and how manageable it is. Also I have small hands, and the handle never feels too bulky, so no it doesn't feel like a bat lol

I have some advice for you .there are a lot of toxic people on TH-cam and just comment on people doing because there miserable in there own life . you have a fantastic way of life don't let there comments get to you .just ignore them or challenge them to make a video in the woods to show a better way.

I’m 57, mostly retired, and a forest camper, but I’m not that strong, so I was looking for more of a boys ax. And this looked like the perfect tool for me. I was hoping the 1.9 axehead wasn’t too weighty.
Followed your store link, and next I read the negative reviews about Husqvarna, and they made me nervous.
Forging their logo (on the thinner part) caused the axe blade to split. I know you said they fixed that problem, but their customer service seemed poor. In other words, Husqvarna never owned up to the problem and replaced the axes.
Secondly, I consider you an expert on these matters, so I tried to follow your nonchalant attitude about the top of your wooden handle being split. Then I saw other complaints online about it, e.g. one photograph showed three or four splits in a just-shipped ax.
Honestly, I wouldn’t use the axe much at all, so I didn’t want to buy a $190 ax. But I wouldn’t mind spending $60-$100 for the right all-around axe.
And I’m not splitting firewood regularly. I’d probably use it 3 to 4 times a year.
I know you said on your March 2019 video that Husqvarna fixed the logo/weakness problem with the ax, but the unresolved customer service complaints have kind of soured me on the company.
I’ve seen plenty of male archaeologists break tools in the field that women would never have broken, so I wonder if Husqvarna kind of had that attitude: that their axes wouldn’t have failed in 2015 unless someone did something really stupid to it?
On the fence here in AlbaNY about if I should buy this axe. Please advise, kind sir.
Beth Suter you have definitely done your research. I’m not sure why all the negative comments are there on Amazon so I wondered for a while if it was competition driving it. However, when I asked Husqvarna directly they didn’t deny it and said it was fixed. With that being said, I have 3 of their access, gave one as a gift, and know about 10 others who use them hard. No one I know personally has had any issues. If you do buy it, and do have issues please let me know. I think if you’re looking for a light head this is a great choice. I’m still enjoying mine. Definitely understanding the limitations of a tool is important. I have a boys axe and it's for medium chopping forces. It will last forever within those boundaries. Any steel head mounted on a wood handle has very specific use requirements. Knowing the tool is very important.

Always amazing to see you (and your wife) hitting the same sliver of wood right on target after full back-swings while chopping trees and wood ... seems like uncanny accuracy that even professional golfers would be envious of - most troll grunts have no idea what it takes or how different environs/wood/projects fit with each individual's best results. As for thumb-down counts, it's not impossible for thumb-uppers to mis-click (I noticed I mistakenly did so on a couple of other youtube vids in the past months when I was not well focused on my mouse action and didn't notice till I returned for re-watching - yikes!). You and your wife's videos are so superb they are the only one's I actively search for ... there will come a day, not far off, when you will hit 100k+ subscribers, and no one will be surprised when you hit 1M. :}

@@TrustinTimber lol I have in past been accused of embodying the "infinite monkey theorem" in jest (ah, old college days!) but yeah, real, human and also cares about tools ... my family was handy so all kids got safety/practice training, even took the 1st woodworking class open to girls in Jr High. So, I adore seeing you use the manual hand drill - proudly used on many occasions in our garage projects. Family was also very active in arts/lighting-film-sound editing, so I appreciate you sharing the fruits of your expert vision. You've assuaged my guilt at posting more than my fair share, but that is truly how moving it is to watch - words just tumble out in response. Thanks for a great follow-up vid on the forest axe - wish more reviewers would do longer-term follow up reviews. Got one of these on order, to join my Husky hatchet and carpenters axes. They will become my Three Mustchopeers (apologies to Alexandre Dumas in order I think). The carpenters axe also makes a good bush craft tool, but the blade is a bit thin in the cheeks for effective splitting, but is brilliant for carving. Have you tried this one?
Regarding negative or downright rude comments, you'll never keep everybody happy, so just apply the 89/20 rule and ignore the unwanted critics. Keep the vidos coming, I find them very useful.

Got one of these little axes two days before our isolation started here for covid-19 today here in New Zealand and paid $76 NZ from our husky dealer. Looks good and looking forward to trying it out, I actually mainly bought it for limbing my firewood trees before bucking up with chain saw. We have a minimum of one month that the government is making us isolate here for so plenty time. Funny that I looked up you tube to see what people said about axe and you just made this video. Not sure where in the world you live but keep safe and cheers for a good review and just ignore the negative haters they always be there and it's only cause they are miserable. Yes, Gränsfors is too expensive; choose Wetterlings! It has a real wedge in the shaft. I have both. They are equally good.
Wetterlings was bought out by Gransfers years ago.. in my opinion you get what you pay for with them..

Geez, I don't know. When I click the link it says unavailable. I can tell you from seeing my amazon affiliate links they sold a ton of these. Maybe they figured they could raise the price. I would pay $125 max for one.

Wranglerstarr reviewed axes and his favorite is the GB he mentioned over the years it’s the only brand where the axe head doesn’t come loose and he’s used pretty much all the main brands
Your point? Any axe main brand or unmain brand can come loose if exposed to heat and cold silly. Buy a fibreglass fiskars if you want to avoid loose axe heads. Beyond that treat the damn axe properly and the head will less likely come loose..

What kind of warranty comes with that Husqvarna? I love my Gransfors to death, 20 year warranty, for backpacking I typically take my fiskars X7, the black and orange combo makes it very hard to lose it and it's a damn tank, but occasionally bringing a more traditional tool just feels nicer and risking a $200 axe doesn't sit so well with me lol.

Using glycol based antifreeze is a new one on me and not really one I would consider. Why not just soak it in linseed oil? Also, if the haft is that loose take it home, pull the wedge and replace it with a larger one. I also coat the wedges with pine tar as well as the inside of the axe eye. This seals against moisture and helps prevent the dryness issue.
The little Husky axes are actually pretty good and thankfully Hults Bruks does not over harden the steel like Gransfors Bruks so one can actually field sharpen the tool.
A proper rehang is my preference too, but I'll try the antifreeze sometime just to see how well it works. If a fellow has not tried it, he has no right to knock it
I have adapted a slide hammer and pulling a wedge is real easy with that.
I NEVER glue in wedges so that they can be pulled.
Where do you get the leather neck?
Everyone is entitled to there opinions. Unfortunately even the negative ones, if someone has a better way of doing something they should explain it in a productive way versus beating a guy down over it. I am new to YouTubing and I resisted putting out vids because of the inevitable negative comments. But thus far everyone that visits me have been fantastic and I thank them for it. Keep up the great content 🍻
Good man, Yeah, most people are kind. It's normal though as your channel grows to get negative comments, but that can actually be a sign your channel is growing. If my wife or I wake up to a bunch of negative comments it means our video might be going viral so it's a blessing in disguise. Negative views still put pennies in the bank:)
Husqvarna is £40 in UK. You can buy 3 for the price of the GB's forest axe! Husqvarna is far better! The pole is soft, it will open the eye. Use a log or mark something with the axe. If it is loose because of moisture, just put it in a bucket of oil, it will make the wood swell.
I am looking at a council tool 2.25# boy’s axe; 28″ the newer model with no red paint vs Husqvarna's All Purpose Axe to purchase. Which one would you buy? Every one's thoughts will be appreciated.
Husqvarna hands down. I got a council tool for free but I leave outside by the wood pile. It not even in the same ball park. Seems strong but the metal even sounds dull. You can feel and hear the difference.
You said that you contacted husqvarna about the breaking issues and they said they solved it but I saw some recent reviews on Amazon about still breaking the head . Do your axe have the logo deep or a bit less please answer
The logo is stamped in almost 1mm.

why that method over boiled linseed oil like pretty much all other guides?
It was recommend to me by a few people saying it would hold longer but in the end I think I like boiled linseed oil better to be honest. Just easier.
What do you think about this axe compared to the carpenters axe that's 20in.
I like the multi much better. I have both. I find the carpenters axe just a little too heavy for daily use and too short for bigger work. I use it pretty much only for carpentry type work. It's a nice tool, I just use it much less.
@@TrustinTimber I bought this about a day after my first comment and it has gone up around $25 in my area, SoCal. I've taken this on two trips so far and have fell a few small hardwood trees with ease. I also cut myself with it after sharpening it, I can see how this axe design was used in battle.. Lol no it is much more beneficial to learn in person rather than watching TH-cam videos. This is only for work days when we can’t get out to the backcountry.
The head got loose bc they dont fit them very good. I cant literaly fit a wedge between the inside of the head and the handle. That's how bad mine was fitted.It probably needs to be rehung

pounding wood with your axe is ok.. but you should definitely remove the sheath. If you don't you basically chopping through it with each hit
Lol no good axeman would bang with the poll? When I was a firefighter we all used the poll to hit a Halligan to take a door and when I fell trees I use the poll to drive felling wedges. I wouldn't say that makes me a poor axeman.

Yes this a great axe - I’ve been using it for 5 years and it was $65 in Canada at the time, not ~$130 usd right now so why promote Crap like amazon, the bane of the American economy? Besides that amazon is a joke and has a useless founder. Instead promote local forestry supply stores or similar.. this axe is essentially the same as Hultafors and Gransfor Bruks versions but at a fraction of the cost and with a more badass name stamped on it..

Fair statement. I like that. In this case though, when companies give me tools to test I beat them up the best I can. It's necessary for me to give an honest review. I need to know it can hold up beyond my expectation.
You're not going to stretch metal steel. I just watched the video and the ax is hitting on very little surface areas that particular ax on the wood, in other words the guy was saying it was poorly put together the handle was wider than it should been and when he took the head off you can see where the surface area where it was hitting which was very little. So whoever that old boy says that the metal I can stretch he don't know what he's talking about. I know metal and you ain't going to stretch it without heat

Better off buying a hardware storee ax for $40 or less and tuning it to your liking that buying into this hype for what he uses it for. Just bewilders me why anyone who knows how to work a haft and sharpen a bit pays more than lowest prices for an ax. You DON'T NEED IT. Go cheap, and learn how to tune your ax.
