- At the hunt camp I take down a dead tree with a Husqvarna Multipurpose Axe. I also demonstrate it's limbing, splitting and detail work. We use a coldsteel trail boss for a brief comparison

What do you think of the husqvarna multipurpose axe?
Not on par with the Gransfors? Finish it yourself and it's the same axe! How can brass rivets blunt the edge? Got on question. Why do you chop upwards? Make the horizontal cuts with a saw. Just cut at 45° you will cut quicker. You need to learn how to use a axe.. you will end up having a accident. It must have taken you a long time to fell that small tree.

I have both axes and love them both but if I had to pick one I would pick the Husqvarna. I know that they can be hit or miss with the handle but mine is nearly perfect with very good grain orientation. After sanding it lightly and applying a few coats of BLO it is one of the most comfortable axe handles I have ever used. I did have to spend quite a bit of time working on the edge to get an even grind and a sharp edge but it is as good as any Gransfors I have ever seen now.
No argument here love the husky.
Ppl differ alot... I think the stock handle on the husvarna and every grasfors I've ever used are the most uncomfortable handles I've used...and I end up taking a draw knife and thinning the handle to make it almost half as thick as the factory ... making it feel way better in the hands and allowing some flex to reduce shock
The Husqavarana is $100 on Amazon now. Its hard to believe the Trailboss is bigger, considering that axe is a small boys axe. There's no way I'd pay $100 for an axe smaller than that.
Great video and info!! I have been looking at Husqvarna for my son as a camp axe, and this video settled it for me!! Definitely going to get one for him. But, for a good "truck axe" I'm goung to pick up the Cold Steel for me. Like you keep on your ATV, I'm going to keep in my Toyota truck!! Thanks again for vrrat video!

@@MrOldclunker Huskies are ok, Stihl are more expensive so they should be better I have one of their cut off saws (I TS410) for cutting steel and concrete but have also used Makita and the cheaper Partner ones in the past

When you swing left, put your left hand on the bottom, your right swing is correct.
Hand swinging is not productive. You might consider your chopping technique.
YOU SWING WITH YOUR HANDS INCORRECTLY
Let the axe go further back , then pull and let it stick, don't keep pushing it when it's going to hit, let the tool do the job. Use it like a whip, not like a hammer. When you pull the axe back, to reload the hit, you don't pull it as back as you should. All that, leads, to faster but incosistend bad hits, with poor aiming. Trying to go fast the way you do it, will hurt your tenonds eventually, and that's the last thing you want to happen. ( I need 2 surgeries becasue I thout it would heal byt itself, repeated moves with weight in our hands, can cause such big damage easily) If my comment, looks wring, please feel free to delete it. I just wanted to help and not to sound like an expert or the wise guy. Stay safe!

No, Not really. I compared dimensions and head geometry. Took a few swings. Limbing, splitting and precision work was only the husqvarna. Thanks for watching.
