The Dewalt 20v is just as light as the competitor's 12v. I am extremely pleased with the overall performance and battery life of this tool. As far as oscillators go, they just aren't very ergonomic tools. The dewalt oscillators have an offset handle that do make them somewhat more ergonomic than the competitors' oscillators.

I'm an auto tech and I got the Snappy several years ago. It's on my hip all day long at work, replaced a Leatherman Sidekick. It's kinda a backup tool I can use instead of running over to my box if I'm across the shop, outside or driving. 99% of the time I need the pliers, and Snap On's Talon Grip is the best. Never had an issue with them slipping. Easy one hand opening for the pliers.
All the tools loosen up with use.

Same. I got it off the truck when it came out, and it hasn't left my hip since then. It's been years at this point. I think it's a great tool
I recently bought this multi tool for under $179. I use it primarily at work. What sold it to me was my Snap-on dealer said Snap-on is putting their lifetime warranty behind it. He said if something on it breaks Snap-on swaps it out for a new one, if Gerber discontinues and it breaks, it I get upgraded to the new version.
The lifetime warranty is really what sold it for me, too. It's expensive, and great multi tools can be bought for less but not with that snap on guarantee. I've had mine since it came out and have already swapped out the first one. I can neither confirm nor deny that the file was used as a pry tool and snapped in half. Snap on dealer swapped it out no questions asked
My dad has had one on his side for like 3 years he hasn’t had a problem with it he works on cars everyday works perfectly
Gerber does make their own adapter to go on this pattern of Phillips, it's comes in the "Gerber Tool Kit" which goes for about $20-$30 depending on where you look. Pretty nice fit, uses magnets instead of friction, though it's not quite deep enough to properly handle double-sided bits (a familiar Gerber flaw if you know the Center Drive).
leatherman micro bits and mini bits arent that useful. ill stick to a normal bit driver

as a mechanic of 15 plus years i got one of these when they first came out. they werent 200$ lol, i believe i paid like 140-150$. i see what your saying bout the squeeze, but what i notice compared to other multi tools is snap on ones have no gap in the grip face of plier when closed. as far as the tightness of tool use it for a week or 2 and itll be normal. and the last thing is the snap on warranty follows the tool.

I have the Center Drive and absolutely love it. I nearly grabbed an SMT97R used but I couldn’t get past the fact you had to open the tool right up to use anything.
I was almost tempted to buy it (lightly used) to see if I could put the plier head on my CD as a lot of my pliers have the Snap On “Talon Grip” feature and it’s pretty legendary IMO
Thank you for mentioning the leatherman removable bit driver. Work got me this and had no idea that would work with it. Just ordered three for me and the guys I work with.
Honestly just got the snap-on version... Honest opinion is that, while the SMT97R is a great tool, i had to use a dremel on the mid-size phillips to get the tool to close properly which is something I've never encountered with any other MP600 or Diesel. Like he said replace the cutters with the HSS cutters and that will solve so many problems and frustrations. Honest opinion: good tool... But if you need a tool set similar to this buy the MP600 bladeless for about 1/3 the price and frankly i like it much better.
In my possibly not so humble opinion, the first, and most inexplicably egregious mistake Snap-On made was in going to Gerber instead of Leatherman, on the one hand, and deciding to go OTF, on the other hand. Up to now, we have associated "Snap-On" with the very finest quality tools; no more. And Gerger's OTF design makes all the other tools smaller and less efficient in function.
Then, too, I would have hoped that a Snap-On multitool would have included something innovative yet immensely practical in a multi-tool with their imprimatur - something that would have Victorinox, Gerber, Leatherman, SOG, et al. smacking their foreheads and saying "OMG, why didn't WE think of that?"
Instead, what did they give us? A drastically overpriced red Gerber in a red Gerber sheath; and not even the best design of a Gerber. WHAT THE HECK WERE THEY THINKING????
That red paint jams up all the tolerances alright - they got us good!
Gr8 vid, don't know why even a mobile mechanic would want that tool. At home I have at least 25 pliers, vice grips etc and reach for the one that fits the job as closely as possible. Doing construction or EDC is where these tools make sense as the best tool is the one you have immediate access to.
Or just wear a tool pouch with what you might need for the day.
As a former shop based mechanic and current mobile mechanic who's owned this tool since it was introduced, I can say I love it. As with any multi tool, it comes in very handy. Even though my tool box is full of the "rigjt tools for the job" when your in the middle of something under the dash or on your back under the car as any mechanic knows you don't always reach for the "right tool" or have the luxury of doing so. You grab what you can get easily and quickly. This is why having this or any multi tool for that matter is so clutch for mechanics. We're known for turning ratchets into hammers and screwdrivers into prybars. We definitely don't always grab the "right tool"

Bladeless MP is one of the best tools out light, great pliers, plus scissors and a saw perfect with a main blade or standalone it is future proof and even now can be taken where no bladed tools can.
Upgrades needed are Gerber producing and selling a range of t-shank tools (they have the market cornered) and alternate cutters perhaps a pocket clip stamped out. All fixes keep weight/size as is.
Totally worth the price...

I'm a snap-on fanboy and I wouldn't buy it for $30. Gerber hasn't made a quality tool since the 90s. Fragile blade and crappy steel.

In my circumstances so far, I've never needed to use my Center Drive tool with very thin material that poses a clearance issue with the pliers. It's always been chosen for 'chunky' use such as bolt heads, thicker materials and the like. I wonder if the plier clearance is a real issue or a special case scenario in real world use?
If snap on made a version of the Gerber center drive I would totally buy it

I’d love to see details about those 4” Snap On slip joint pliers you’ve shown. I’m intrigued by the wire cutter… I know it’s small, but it would still be quite handy if it can cut hard wire.
One reason why i use the MP600 and Diesel over the centerdrive is that they don't have spring pliers and i can leave the phillips/straight while using the pliers which is great in electrical.

I bought one of these and when I heard the price of this it brought back memory of how stupid I used to be lol. I will have to break them out cause I do need some wire cutters and crimpers for a daily carry as you said being a mechanic.
Snap-on & Gerber are basically Cousins from a different mother. They're good tools but always in some cases have flaws either in design or quality in durability etc. Nevertheless on occasion they do give the rest a run for their worth. It would be great if the tools are accessible from the outside. Great insight maestro.!
Tools on the outside of the handle would be nice for the easy access but any prolonged use of the pliers without gloves on might hurt my delicate baby hands😂
Informative video! I’ve been looking to buy a “regular sized” plier based Multitool. Was looking at Leatherman and didn’t really consider the Gerber lineup. From what I’ve found out it seems like either the Center Drive or MP600 would be good choices to consider. I’m drawn to the CD because it has tools I’ll actually use lol

Have you experienced the tool clearance issue with the pliers and thin material yourself? Would have been nice to see it demonstrated. It hasn't been a problem for me and I wonder if in practice it isn't as big of an issue as the internet makes it seem. I picked up a used one for $70 Canadian and I'm happy with it for that price. $200 US is crazy steep and not worth it IMO. Mine was nice and loose when it got to me so I imagine with time yours will loosen up as well. Great channel!
For $200 that thing better come with a brushless drill, a 2 amp 18 volt battery, and a charging station.

I’m with you. The black blunt nose mp600 is best ever. How could they still be using that carbide pos blade? 90 percent of my use is pliers and the fast one hand deploy is my goto. They are getting harder to find though.

I had one of these Gerber tools, got it for about 50 bucks, pretty much got it for the scissors for my uniforms. The scissors were brokenwhen I opened it, always snapped open after every use. Broke the file off a few months later and noticed how cheap the material was, didn't even look like metal smh.
Gave up on Gerber long ago. Gerber Gator left me looking for where the broken serrated tip was lost in my apple... the apple I had eaten half of already. Gerber multi tools, broke multiple plier heads along the side, too fidgety for tools inside, grit in the slide becomes annoying. Small multis broke repeatedly. Best one I ever had was the Flick-Fish and its discontinued long ago. Pocket folder broke in the first use as a gift to my sister. Fixed blade broke second use on a backpacking trip, leaving me with half a knife and nearly put my eye out. I want to like Gerber but I'm done giving them any more chances. SOG used to pretty good but the quality went down hill after the 90's then more recently tried one of there small pocketable multitools and realized they really raised there game. I'm excited to see if SOG keeps up the quality and what they do with it.

I rather it be tight 😉than loose, know what I mean? For the price not sure how good this multi-tool would be and I wonder if this will be covered by the warranty as other SnapOn tools. I just dont get why not make the tool with a standard 1/4" bit holder whereas now if I want something better I have to carry some bit adapter and possibly lose it. Great review👍! Kudos from NYC🗽.

You can use the same technique of the Center-Drive to fix the plier issue on the Snap-On. When you want to use the pliers, just have the blade out. :D

Those are U shank jigsaw blades, common on diy jigsaws.
Something that needs to be more known about gerbers multitools is the locks aren’t plastic. This is such a common misconception and I don’t understand how because all you have to do is look. There is a metal plate underneath the plastic tabs that come in contact with the back of the tools. The plastic parts are just for grip. It’s a solid lock.

I keep an open Gerber 600 on my desk. I never close it so if I need a pliers, they're right there...
The issue you brought up with this having no space to down on small pieces of metal is the same in the roxon s802 with the utility blade... blade.
I head that as well, thankfully only the utility knife has that problem..looks like it would be relatively easy to grind it down too.

Gerber, like SOG, used to make fine knives, popular with military people. I got my Gerber Mark I and Mark II 4 decades ago when I was in the army. However, they have gone for the cheapest manufacturer and had knives and assorted edged tools made in China by the lowest bidder. I have been disappointed by SOG and will probably be disappointed by Gerber as well.
When you *REALLLY* want a red and black multi-tool. Feels like Powdercoating Is a cheaper option

Tightness, quality aside, the number of tools seem about right. I'm a bit of an odd duck so I'd have liked to see scissors as a tool, but that's just my hang up. I think the fatal flaw for me (surprisingly it's not the price-more on that in a moment) is that the tools aren't outside accessable. The video mentioned this but I don't think this could be emphasized enough.As far as the price goes, it's about right Snap on is pro tools. The quality isn't even the issue most of time (although I would say the quality is mostly on the very good side mostly). It's the warranty. It's Stoopid easy to get another tool when the last one is damaged. I've gone up to a snap on tool truck/retailer and when they had the tool on board they just swapped it out for me. That's why it's 15-20 bucks for a screwdriver and why this tool is 200.
First of all, love the vid with the add in text jokes. It's amazing that regardless of what we've gone through and put up with in this would that many if not most of us never really grow past 14y/o.. Cause even if we've moved into 'dad joke' territory being a father or not, yes, we still 'go there' with the jokes.
Secondly, no I'm not a mechanic but I do personally know several and know that they do love their Snap-On tools but personally, No, it's not worth an addition $100 just to have 'Snap-On' pasted onto the side of it. Outside of Brand Loyalties of certain mechanics and the like I feel that rebranding tools with "Such & Such Edition" in order to make an extra $Buck or 100 of them is just wrong. Again, just my personal opinion and we all know what they say about those.
I started off using a lot of my Father's tools (He was the lead of a local Street Dept) that he used fixing equipment at work and vehicles at home. They tended to be a bit of everything as you used what you could get from a cheap Local Government including promotional freebies from tool salesmen. And then on the other side of the family was and is my Grandfathers tools. He was a welder and sometimes general repair at what is now a vey old traditional coal fired powerplant on the Ohio River. They were and still are Union worked and as so often when owned by a major power company they will spend money unnecessarily often buying high dollar tools for a singular specific job, use them a couple of times and then write them off as a cost of business which at that point the workers would take and use the tools at home since the tool was no longer 'on the books' at the company. Because of this, I've used JH Williams & Co as well as Proto who owns them now, Snap-On and several other 'smaller' companies that Snap-on now owns, also Stanley / Black and Decker, and Craftsman from premerger times. All of them have worked quite well because they were well made 'Made in America' products. The term "They just don't make them like they used too" comes to mind and since I'm cheap, I prefer to purchase used old tools that are still in decent to great shape and restore them if need be.
But each to their own. Use what you like and can afford.
$200? No thanks, saving up for the Leatherman Arc. Whenever that actually shows up.
I learned early that snapon tools are overrated and overpriced. That knowledge has saved me a lot of money.

In EU Leatherman Charge Titanium cost aroind 270€ wic is stupid expensive. And for 145€ ewryone can buy Victorinox Spirit MX . And it is on another lewel with Leatherman and Herber tools.

I most certainly do NOT think you were way of base in your commentary on this tool. To extend the baseball analogy, this tool coming from Snap-On is like Babe Ruth coming to the plate for the Yankees when they are down a run against the Red Sox. The Beantown hurler leaves a fat, juicy change-up hanging over the center of the plate, and the Sultan of Swat, with a mighty swing trickles a nubber down the 3rd base line that he is barely able to leg-out for an infield single.
I think this particular Snap-On is red only from embarrassment.
Seems too expensive to begin with, regardless of some of those issues. $222 usd on the snap on site - $300 cad? I would rather buy a Leatherman Charge+TTI for $256cad.
I do think it would be cool to see a new iteration/update of Gerbers multitools though.
I have an almost identical Gerber from probably 20 years ago that was maybe 45 bucks. Doesn't seem like Gerber is going much in the innovation side of things

Not necessarily. The Swisstool is the absolute best in terms of workmanship and resistance that I have owned so far. I collected everything from SOG to Leatherman to Victorinox... I have a leatherman squirt with me in everyday life, it does everything what I need in society. But when I go off the beaten paths, and I need a single tool on my I can 100% rely on, its always the Swisstool!

I hope they get there blade steel straight, I've had five center drives and the tip has snapped on every single one. I kept buying them because i liked the design and Gerber is one of my favorite knife makers. But eff i figured the first time i misused it, so i got a second...and it snapped, then a third snapped as well and at that point they lost me.

@@maxlvledc slicing with the tip, nothing crazy, plastic sheet, notching wood, marking drywall.... things you would do with a knife! Not prying, not lifting paint lids. I don't know if they had a bad run or something and I got them all or if there is a strong knockoff market. It was from different dealers, different times of year....i have no idea on what was going on. Never before had I had such trouble. I take pretty good care of my tools, they're....my tools I need them, it got ridiculous.
It's not like I was doing it on concrete, steel or some hard backing either. Just boop there goes the tip of the blade... Gerber had been my goto since I was a kid and they sadly lost me...

I used to be a very big Gerber supporter. I've had many of their multi tools and a good handful of their knives. I liked the feel of the handles over Leatherman's. Then the Wave came out and someone gave me one and I never went back. I'm now on my 3rd Leatherman and I can't live without my Surge... Which is unfortunately out for warranty repair currently.

@@benwilletts6862 I could see that. I've got big hands though and I use mine every day at work doing property maintenance so the heavier duty the better. I just recently snapped the jaw on mine trying to bend a piece of metal and I'm waiting to hear back from leather if they'll warranty it. I did enjoy my wave, it was better as an EDC, but sadly I snapped that one at the hinge. I'm kind of hard on things I guess.

I'll stick with my center drive. That's a lot of money for basically a gerber mp 600. There is nothing about that tool that puts it in the $200 dollar range. Oh! im sorry it says snap on, so it's totally worth it. lol I'm a mechanic and wouldn't go near that thing. Of course, I don't have a snap on truck stopping by every week .i can see people grabbing it off the truck and paying $25 bucks a week just because they can .
