The Xbox 360 was the last console from before when game companies went into overdrive trying to suck every last dollar out of your pocket through micro transactions, forcing even singleplayer games to require online connections so they could do that. You were allowed to played your game in blessed peace. It was also the last console from before when companies fell down the rabbit hole of trying to make graphics more realistic all the time, which only makes the uncanny valley problem exponentially worse and slows down the release of new games by years. Seriously, the regularity with which great new games came out then was amazing. Today, we frequently have to five years between new releases of even popular series, if we're lucky. Finally, there are many cool games that were never made backwards compatible with later Xboxes and can thus only be played on the 360. I loved the 2009 Wolfenstein, for example. The Captain America movie tie-game was way underrated at the time. Saboteur was great. And so on.
Still got my 360, I do worry if it'll get the red ring as its an older model from back in high school, but damn Its nice to play some of the stuff on it now and then. Nothing will ever beat coming home on a friday and revving up Halo for some sandbox nonsense.
If it's a Jasper model (you can check via the plug there's photos online) it's actually very unlikely to red ring I've got two working jasper's that I use pretty regularly (not in HD i should note idk if that pushes them harder) and they've been going since 2008!
I saw a short of that guy that goes to conventions and asks people to blind rank things and there was a kid blind ranking game consoles and ended up with the 360 at #1 and then said "it's like ancient. You can't even play gta5 on it". Kids think gta 5 came out for Xbox one and ps4 originally
Kids these days probably only look at the online component, which can currently only be played on PS4/5, Xbox One/Series, and PC And frankly, considering the way Rockstar has neglected the single player side, adding wave after wave of online-only content, it's a reasonable take
@@HPLovesCraftsCat Makes me wish gaming was gatekept a little bit longer for us nerds lol. I will forever miss the old days even more so for racing games (PGR4, FH1, GT4, Nfs Black Box era, Midnight Club 2, Burnout 3, etc)
It’s odd how gaming became “less social” as online “improved”. As you note,no more split screen, but also no more talking in lobby’s because God forbid a previous “marginalized” person hears a slur online. Not like “mute” was an option 🙄. And that they always note”we can’t control what occurs online and our game’s rating also doesn’t reflect that”
It's weird how I still don't really consider this system retro despite considering systems that were 10 years old at the time of the 360's height to be retro. I think a lot of it has to do with how advanced current systems and ganes are compared to the previous generation or two, and in the case of the 360, there hasn't really been a huge leap in quality from then to now, and so many of the games are still superior to new games. A lot of 360 games simply don't feel dated yet, and they keep remaking and remastering games from that era, so they are still relevant today on the newest systems.
I think of retro as anything that came before the HD era, so the 360 isn't retro imo. Games really haven't fundamentally changed since those days and even controllers became basically uniform across the board at that point.
I never played the 360 until 2019 when I went to college. However, when I was growing up, I watched a lot of Achievement Hunters' videos on TH-cam and watching them having fun on the 360 made me happy.
Just want to point out to anyone interested that while sourcing it for the 360 will be difficult, Call of Juarez Gunslinger is still available on Steam, and will run on any modern computer easily

It still has maybe the best controller ever made. The 360 Library is insane. I wish I still had mine. I had gotten 2 red Rings of death though but they were replaced quickly.

I'm 47, grew up in the NES / SMS era, but I have always kept all my consoles and games throughout the eras, going hog wild buying everything up as soon as they go out of style and are cheap, but before they become collectors items. I have 2 360s and a gigantic library of physical games and will never sell them (though I so,d a dew I regret now and am trying to buy again) - agree this was the pinnacle of gaming, feel so blessed to have lived through it and already have played all the best titles - but there's still quite a few on my pile of shame - and with how gross and woke modern gaming now is I find myself going back now more than ever - to a time before DEI propaganda was in games, when men were tough, macho and masculine and KICKED ASS and were BAD ASS that seems to be largely lost how. Also hate the tough girl boss trrope, won't go near it. The Xbox 360/PS3 era was an embarrassment of riches that I will be enjoying in heavy rotation for many years to come
I could not live without physical media. I love buying physical games for my 3 Xboxes (Original, 360 MW3 Edition, Xbox One) and I love to sit down, slip in a disc, and just play (obviously not for the Xbox One, but that physical copy of R6 Extraction was way to good to pass up at Target). I think I'm gonna unplug my Xbox One for a while and play my 360. I have so many great games on it, I won't be losing out on anything. I wonder if the original Max Payne is back-comp with the 360? Hmm... I'm gonna have a good week with my 360.

Ah, the physical media. Amazing how convenient they were. The game I would pop in and play was Twisted Metal 2 (Twisted Metal 2: World Tour on PAL market). Ok, long way from Xbox 360, but still way more convenient then compact cassettes I used back in a day (Spectrum 48k and C64). 15 minutes of loading per level... but then again, that was eastern Europe back in the '90s⏳⌛🕰️ So many games that never left Japan, stuck on PS2. Oh. VHS copy of Dr. Strangelove (1964) in on-line auction. That's great movie. I'll take it. Three days later, around 10:00h, the tape has arrived. OK, I watch it later. it's ~19:00h (07:00h PM), let's watch the tape. Major Kong (Slim Pickens) certainly had a blast (both metaphorically and literally), pun intended. Right, lets see the news on WWW. Oh... James Earl Jones has just passed away. I've just watched the movie in which he made his debut (as bombardier Lieutenant Lothar Zogg). Talk about timing...😳
not sure about most ppl, but the prices for 360 and wiis has gone up. 5 -7 years you could get the systems for 15-25 bucks. I happened into a good will and got a slim with 3 controllers for 15. Check charity shops, a buddy of mine got the halo 3 phat Xbox 360 zehper motherboard so not great on reliability but only cost him £20. He got it just for the shell thinking it wouldn't work but long behold it actually did work so he got a steal with that little jealous myself 😂

The xbox 360 is still the best system to play games like guitar hero, rock band, some need for speed games, some ubisoft dance games (xbox one probably better for that end though). It's a must have system if you're into certain genres.
It sold well and its game sold well the games were ported like hell to modern and future consoles so they have no reason to go up in price so the only risk is collectors hoarding them till there’s none left which is unlikely.
It may be old enough to be retro in years. But has game play really advanced enough to make it actually retro? Its not like we have made the same jump since the 360 that we did between say the NES and the PS1, or from Atari to the SNES even...
I wouldn't say that the Xbox 360 is "practically" retro or "almost" retro, it's straight up just is retro, no other way to look at it. The Xbox 360 has been out for over 19 years as you said at the beginning of this video. 19 years ago when the Xbox 360 first released games like the first Mario, Zelda, and Dragon Quest were still brand new. We still didn't have games like Mega Man or Kirby, a western release for Zelda, sequels to any of Nintendo's big IPs we know of today, or even Tetris on the Nintendo back then. If the PS1, N64, and Saturn were retro when the 360 was released, which was about a 10 year gap between those consoles, then the 360 without a doubt is retro after a nearly 20 year gap.
The Xbox 360 is almost 20 years old so I could consider it retro but not the games since you have game like rise of the tomb raider that came out in 2015 on the system, so the system could be considered retro but not the games, unless they are 2005 games
Yeah you are right like games like GTA 5 released on xbox360 as well .That game is not retro even till now but PS2 and it's game library is retro for sure.

19 years old? Damn man we getting old
No downloads, no EA or Ubisoft connect sign in BS, no network errors, no micro transactions, no woke 😂 influence, adult themes, real stories that were not afraid to offend, memorable characters that were strong 💪, comedy in games, real talking on Xbox live, and not overly complex sandboxes to get lost in
Kinda sad that skylanders wasnt shown in this video. Stil great video, also I hate that my childhood games are called retro.
Can you still play online on a 360?
How did you come up with the name of your channel November Motel? Just curious if it was related to the song by Mad Season.
15 minutes of loading per level... but then again, that was eastern Europe back in the '90s⏳⌛🕰️
So many games that never left Japan, stuck on PS2.
Nice video bro
Thanks man!
I bought an Xbox 360 for $60 at a yard sale and bought a bunch of games. Building my 360 library for cheap!
So next year PS3 n Xbox360 is retro...
not sure about most ppl, but the prices for 360 and wiis has gone up. 5 -7 years you could get the systems for 15-25 bucks. I happened into a good will and got a slim with 3 controllers for 15. So it my area the price of wiis and 360s have def gone up in recent years. Ps3 seems to have settled in around 50-80 in my area as well.
Check charity shops, a buddy of mine got the halo 3 phat Xbox 360 zehper motherboard so not great on reliability but only cost him £20. He got it just for the shell thinking it wouldn't work but long behold it actually did work so he got a steal with that little jealous myself 😂
@@MrBronkz yeah you can take your chances and get lucky on a cheap one. I can still buy them pretty cheap when they are faulty. They are usually pretty easy to fix as long as its not the main chip or southbridge
I nabbed three consoles and four controllers, two of them new. For 85 American. One's a refurbished(fixed GPU) Arcade on the Zephyr board. The best if them is the Elite on the Tonasket board. Third is a Slim Corona v1/v2 with the vulnerable 4gb nand.
2007-2017, good times
@NovemberHotel - I have an Xbox One, but I'm considering getting a 360 because there are games that I want to play that aren't Backwards Compatible on the One.
Definitely recommend it
Aprettiate very much thanks for the love of games my guy
Where’s the PS3 video essay at???
I still have mine plugged in, mainly to play ninja gaiden
I was born in 1978 and grew up with a 2600, a Nintendo entertainment system and a super Nintendo. Didn’t get back into gaming after that. Today for free I just picked up a PS two and an Xbox 360 and almost 100 games. Do you think I can have some fun on this in 2024? I’m kind of excited to try it out.
Absolutely man. I still play my PS2 and 360 regularly. Two of the greatest consoles ever put out. You’ll be busy with almost 100 games
@ thanks for the response! I just powered this thing up and call of duty black ops 2 was in it. Man I’m like my grandfather with an iPhone right now lol trying to get the hang of a first person shooter. I may be 20 years late to the party but I’m gonna have some fun! Thanks man.
@@bredenis5 no problem! enjoy! Black Ops 2 is one of my favorite Call of Duty games by far. Campaign is decent, the zombies is great, and multiplayer is still pretty fun!
Its not like we have made the same jump since the 360 that we did between say the NES and the PS1, or from Atari to the SNES even...
he's still alive
Xbox 360 games still look amazing for being retro.
GTA 4? Buddy, GTA V was also released on the 360 😂
Yes but gta 5 is only 11 years old vs gta 4 being closer to “retro” meaning closer to 20 years old. That game is 16 years old
@@NovemberHotelI just can't call GTA San Andreas retro.
Call of Juarez in on Nintendo Switch!
It is the best device made by America. Greetings to the owner of the channel from Iraq.
bungie postmortem video pls
To think i’m only a couple months older than the xbox 360
Practically?
Considering a mere 4 years happened between the GameCube and 360 I am sure it is.
360 definitely one of the best consoles of all time...
The same thing could be said for PS3
Güzel bir video olmuş eline sağlık
Got the r2d2 Xbox 360
God I miss the 360
yeah imma buy a unblocked 360 with all the games downloaded and 4 controllers ... it will be nice to have when the boys come to barbecue
