It's actually a good sign if you get the same question over and over again. Then you know new people are finding your TH-cam channel and haven't yet seen earlier videos. Like me, here. Nice video! You've now got a new, Dutch subscriber!
Welcome friend! I like your point of view my dude
Greetings from Tijuana beautiful prelude I am the owner of a 1991 prelude b21a1 it is in the process of restoration greetings from tijuana do you speak Spanish
Hey Connor, best Primer to use for your application is to use a 2K Epoxy Primer, before Primer you really have to get rid off the rust, i always use a mini Sandblaster for the rust spots. Hope that helped :)
What size compressor should I be looking at for a sandblaster? This is really good to know man, thank you!
@@ConnorLee Atleast 100 PSI with a minimun of like 20-30 CFM
@@ConnorLee Size i would assume at least around 100 litres if not more. Rust removal wire wheels work good too. :)
just bought my first car a 1988 3rd Gen SI 4WS, I've been waiting for the right one to appear and then one 20 minutes away from me popped up on marketplace that was ready to go, so excited to start working on it :)
Manifested that Prelude into your driveway! Congratulations! Noice specs too
So good to see you back on the lude again :) been years
Glad to see you bud!
Stoked seeing another Prelude vid!! This is giving me motivation to get down to my storage garage and work on mine this summer so thanks for that👍👍. I recently purchased an OEM rear lip from someone in Europe and pretty excited to install it. Have you put any type of metal mesh over the trunk vents to keep rodents out? That’s one of the many things I’m tackling this summer, I’ve had a problem with rodents getting in through those vents off and on over the yrs and going to use the Prelude3g write up to finally seal up the areas where they can get in.
Stoked to hear you wanting to get the lude out! I’m behind this decision 100%
As for the trunk vents, I have not added mesh. I did have a brief time with rodents, but really in the cabin area. I’ve contemplated just sealing them up for good during the body work. Would be nice to just weld on some sheet metal. I dont know how much the trunk really needs to vent
Sup Connor!! I’ve been a fan and customer for quite some time now. Just wanted to share that we recently experienced a pretty intense windstorm here in the northwest, and it ended up tearing my car cover. But, every cloud has a silver lining, right? I took it as a sign to finally start working on my Prelude that’s been sitting idle since 2019. I’m excited to dive into your past videos for inspiration and guidance. Keep up the fantastic work with your videos, they’re truly awesome!
Mannn, no need to introduce yourself! I absolutely remember you! 🤙🏼
I’m sorry to hear about the storm, but like you said, perhaps a blessing in disguise!
Much love
Love to see this! I just got back into my prelude build recently as well. RWD converting is an intricate process haha
I cant even imagine. Are you modifying the existing firewall or cutting it out for a RHD?
@@ConnorLee Not right hand drive, rear wheel drive. Ive swapped in an M50 drivetrain from my wrecked bmw e36. Firewall had to be modified, and the trans tunnel opened up a bit, but so far its gone quite smoothly.
Do apply rust converter before primer and stuff.
Definitely trying this! Thanks!
if you can find a new 3rd gen kit for your car get the OG parts that are hard to find but if you cant find them you made your own custom stuff that looks great! Car looks great and car will look great if you change it up
Also take it down to bare metal , POR15 then epoxy primer homie . if its coming back its gotta be sanded down more to begin with. wizwheel sander ftw
🤘🏼🤘🏼
Yup...remove rust...cut out if too deep, wire brush on drill then Krud Kutter for rust from Walmart, then oily rag wipe clean, then fill holes, sand, prime, light sand, prime, clean, paint, sand, clearcoat, polish, beer!
It sounds so simple when you say it like that 🤣
Geez i have not worked on one of those in ages bro
Was it as hard to work on these back then?
No bro it wasnt that hard. Back in my "younger" days in high school practically a good part of spare time was help our friends work on their hondas and integras
The jack was being an absolute troll
🧌😂
If that's a lacquer type auto primer, it will absorb water. It's not made to withstand weather without paint on top of it. I did body work back in the 80's and 90's. I'm sure things have changed a lot since then.
I'll have to inspect the can next time I'm in there. I should be using an epoxy primer? Cheers
Sorry, not sure. Epoxy primer was after my time in the biz. If I was doing something that I knew I wasn't going to finish for a while though, after I primed it, I would always sand it and spray some left over paint on it so it wouldn't absorb moisture.
i use ospho to stop rust connor then scotch brite it and clean and paint never seen rust come back
Making a serious note of this. Thank you! What kind of primer do you typically use?
You should trim the rear lip bottom section. It makes the lip sit better and look better and easier to bend
Awesome idea! They have always sat just a little off. Appreciate you!
Paint Society on TH-cam has a lot of great DIY info for you to learn about painting. I won't touch paint work until it comes time to work on my Miata-swapped TR7 because I don't care how it comes out, it'll actually be more bad ass if it looks awful. But my take is, you have to be ready to immerse yourself in the knowledge to even get started.. That means you have to be done with teardown and ready to do only paint (not panel by panel, the entire car)
Aside from that, cool to see some low-production parts still out on the road. The C-pillar bar, Tein coilovers. It's all nice work, just don't get so hung up that you let yourself get overwhelmed.
Already checked out some of their videos since reading this comment. Thanks for the tip man!
I found myself a 89 prelude with rear wheel steering for $1500 canadian lol. Its got a tiny bit of rust on the back fender (driver side the owner says). He also says the kms are unknown...not sure if its worth buying? I love these gen preludes! Always wanted one
for 1500, that's not a bad deal. if you really ;like the chassis, you could always motor swap it down the line!
@ConnorLee that is so true! If I get it post a video haha. Just waiting for the owner to reply to my message about it
Sealer primer after etch primer if you on metal. Epoxy ...be careful, may not be compatible with your top coats.
What if I epoxy primer first and then when it comes time for the real painting process, prime over that primer with a better one?
I have a 2.0si 4ws who whats to buy it
😮
@@ConnorLee JK it my project glad 3rd gens are getting recognized I've had it for about 6 years now and haven't been able to get it on the road hopefully u keep your lude alive bro wishing you the best 👍🧑🔧
