    hey man as a shadetree mechanic i feel you on the lack of garage but ngl it makes the series a little more unique and relatable to see you tackling it in your driveway. i know that probably doesn't make up much for the massive pain it is but wanted to chime in and say i've been watching these in their entirety each time they drop and i don't even own a prelude!

    My 4g Prelude got me into cars in the first place. Always wanted a 3g. Technically my first Prelude was a 2g but it was basically just transportation. The vacuum lines in the non-SI are insane.

    • @ConnorLee
      @ConnorLee  ปีที่แล้ว

      Dude tell me about it. Like a rats nest of vacuum lines. I wish they were simpler to get fixed up.

    The clock clover find was a legendary find! If you go back to the junkyard, you should check that lude for 4ws! Good luck! 👍🏾

      I’m pretty confident it was not a 4ws model but I could have missed something.

    I’ve been watching your videos for a while, had my eyes on a prelude since 15 when I started taking interest. The 3rd gen caught my eye 👁️👄👁️ and now I finally have one!!! Enjoying working on it, lucky find in the junkyard 😳

      @@ConnorLee just getting it back to former glory, breathing life into the side moldings, window trim re spray, a full engine rebuild kit going in soon, ac delete and egr delete happening soon. Interior work, replaced distributor and got some new sparkies in. Once I get it running confident again I’m gonna paint it myself (don’t worry I got this) I don’t think I’ll do any mods to it currently, maybe when the inevitable swap comes. I plan on keeping this car for as long as it remains in one piece so it’ll keep evolving. I’ve only had it for 1 month 😅 I really hyped about this car, I’ve got the prelude si 4ws 1989 before they lifted its face, I prefer the pre face lift so this is great for me 😳 I’ll tell you what that 4ws is insane though

    The rear window trim clips have to be squeezed from the inside, if you go back i noticed its a manual with cruise control that is something rare i would ❤ that in my prelude, you are right about the interior it looks mint, keep upnthe awesome restoration, il be having mine done soon

  • @isaaczimmerman7354
    @isaaczimmerman7354 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This is very motivating! You got so lucky to have such a complete and solid car show up at the junkyard! There aren't any around me unfortunately.
    If you want a tip on the quarter glass, you can remove the lower trim by pulling the interior panel off and reaching up from inside to pinch and push the clips out without breaking them. The other trim piece that wraps around the top and back has to be removed with the glass. It also needs to be reinstalled with the glass.
    The Honda manual recommends using a knife to cut the rubber seal from the inside. But in my experience it's a little too hard to cut with a knife and I didn't want to risk injuring myself.
    Maybe one of those oscillating multi tools would work to cut it out? You could use the standard piano wire trick for the bottom and front, but not really for the back and top.
    Best of luck! All the hard work will be worth it in the end!

      No problem! I've broken them before, so hopefully you can get them off in one piece from the junkyard car. If not, I'm sure someone on one of the prelude pages would have the trim for sale

    Just did some preventative painting on my 09 Accord in the rear wheel wells. I used Rust-oleum rust reformer, primer and oil-based paint. I plan on getting a 5th gen Prelude next year, so I'll probably be doing a lot more of it. Good video man.

    • @Auto-Alchemy

      I just painted, so I'll keep you updated. For the price, you can't beat the Rust oleum. I put on 7 coats of Rust oleum because I could and it just feels thick man. Good stuff. For regular stone chips, I use a Honda OEM paint pen. It lasts about 2 years without a clear coat over it. @@ConnorLee

    Lucky on that junk yard find! In southern CA we used to have 2 to 3 in any random PYP but for last several months they've been empty with maybe 1 or 2 here or there but when i get to see them, even on first or second day, the cars are THRASHED! I got lucky tho and found a 90 4WS with a B20A for 600$ 99% complete down t0 the center caps on the stock oem alloy wheels. Side note, should have taken every little thing like rubber pieces, clips, little interior parts, climate control or just the knob Haha but all the little things that are unattainable.

  • @blazeaglory

    For the rear lights, you needs to silicone where the plastic pieces snap together. Over time the little plastic snaps, well maybe the entire plastic unit, starts shrinking. Trust me ive spent DAYS locked in my garage trying different methods. I had to get inside my trunk, close it, then have my buddy blast the outside with water and i finally found the problem. Water that is supposed to run off from the tops of the housing also trickles into the tiny little areas around the snap locations where the red and yellow pieces snap into the black housing and then back into the trunk via any little opening the water can find. I found in reality the rubber seals can be almost non existent and water still doesn't leak past them but those tiny little areas around the snap points? FUGGET ABOUT IT! Twas a pain but after siliconing all of those areas, it became NO LEAKS!

      @@ConnorLee correct. It's a miracle worker. I put a piece of painters tape over the Prelude logo. My Prelude logo was in pretty good shape so rather than actually cutting out every letter I just have a rectangle of the original color. But then I duplicate colored black over the whole thing. It took like three cans for the two front mats. You need a lot of it to get an even color. But then it just looks like Honda originally had a square around the Prelude name. It looks perfect. The black lays down really good. Haven't tried the other colors

    • @ConnorLee
      @ConnorLee  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can turbo the fuel injected version of this car which is a dohc. Mine you can’t, it’s a single cam dual carb motor. At least I don’t know how you would! But I’m not really a mechanic either haha

    • @asparagus_syndrome
      @asparagus_syndrome 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      it's really hard to put forced induction on these, at the very least you need to get an aftermarket head gasket, and ideally you would go further with internals and the like if you want to make more power. Realistically, the H22A or K20A swap is doable, it's (much) more expensive but you will get better output and reliability than a turbo/SC B20A. Let alone how much less available parts are for the really quite rare B20As in these. Or as Connor says, the A3 or A4 SOHC variants in non-Si models are even worse candidates for forced induction!
