She retired in 2014 and passed away at age 101 in January 2023 just a couple of weeks before her 102 birthday.
Super video of a great lady!
Hey! Peace and Love from Canada.
Years ago my office moved to Mississauga and Hazel came to the opening of the new office. Our CEO, around 62 years old and 6 foot 3 gave a speech which included announcing his retirement. Hazel, all 4 foot 10 of her walked up to him, stuck a bony finger in the general direction of his neck, and said, "you're far too young to retire". Hurricane was a well earned nickname.
Mississauga is building a new LRT transit line which will be called the Hazel McCallion line
She stayed working up to 2019 as advisors and as board members, it seemed. Passing away last year, January 29, 2023 (age 101).
Thanks for that information. What a remarkable person she was! Major respect! Good on ya, Hazel!
Hazel was awesome…I’ve been here 30 yrs
hazel was mayor when i was a kid. that was a lonnnnnnnng time ago.. lol.. RIP Hazel (1921-2023), age: 101 (almost 102)
"MISS-ah-SAW-ga." No holes in a 5-pin ball; it's about the size of a softball but much heavier. We need an OJB Reacts autobiographical video!
It's not GWA, It's - GA at the end!
She is missed.
Bravo !! Great Vid !!!
Hey OJB. FYI it's pronounced "Mis-sis-saw-ga". Yes it's right on the border with Toronto. You can take a TTC (Toronto Transit Commission) street car to the end of the line, and transfer right to a bus from Mississauga Transit. They are side by side, but definitely different cities. Oh, by the way, Toronto's airport, Pearson International (YYZ), is located in... Mississauga! Of course it was built there, when Mississauga wasn't anywhere near the city it is today. It's one of the fastest growing cities in this amazing country! Cheers from 🇨🇦.
lol.. not quite.. mis-si-saw-gah
Mississauga sounds like Mrs Aga
I lived in Mississauga back in 99-00. Not a bad city honestly
Don Cherry loved her.
Mr. & Mrs. Sauga!
So the debt free status of Mississauga sounds like a great big achievement, but by provincial law, municipalities in Ontario are not permitted to run deficits in their budgets and cannot finance projects with debt, (with the exception of the COVID years) so with that in mind, it's not that big of an accomplishment
