There are rubber bands in a small paper box that are meant to hook on the little round knobs on the sides of Lethal Lava Land, putting them there makes Peach's Castle pop up off of Lethal Lava Land when you flip it out of the ? Block. When the ? Block is closed, you can press down on the front-top of the block to quickly flip the worlds out; no need to manually pull open that back hatch.
Never mind building it yourself, imagine the effort put into designing these technical nightmares.
I was thinking about that while building. Gave me a headache to even imagine it.
Or even being the person to have to create the step by step instructions (both tasks seem like a nightmare to have to do, though at least one has the fun of being creative attached to it.)

@@homerman76 Instructions get generated mostly automatically by the Lego digital design software used, a cad like software for lego
I have beaten Super Mario 64...I don't even know HOW many times (definitely a lot even as a kid) and quite a bit since I occasionally practice speedrunning it (i'm not good) but I've never ONCE noticed that there were NO Mystery Blocks anywhere in the game. Maybe because things like the Wing Cap,Metal Cap,Brick Blocks,etc seem to similar that I just completely blanked on it

Lego always has some pieces left over after each bag. Good because theres extras of the easily lost pieces. Bad cuz you cant be sure you didn't make a mistake.
it’s almost always one of each small stud. If they’re bigger than one stud, you done messed up.
It's a good thing he finished it in 3 days. Otherwise he would have had to reset after the lego moon crashed into his home.

Built this thing in April, took me 9 hours of total building including messing up cool cool mountain and rebuilding it.
Peebs: "Step 1 Completed!"
Toasty (from across the room): "It's fucking nothing!"

Fun fact: You can open up Cool, Cool Mountain to reveal the ice slide. I think Peebs missed it.

The realization that he would have to tear it back apart to put the elastics in hurts me on a spiritual level. Especially after I built my first ever model (Star Wars Star Destroyer) and had to tear it apart to put in a piece I had missed so I know that pain.

YEESH this looks rough to build, guess $150 and around 48 hours of pain putting together incredibly tiny LEGOs is the price for such a nostalgia trip...

Good to hear you didn’t actually lose any pieces. When I got mine, one of the bags was torn open, and I was missing a piece for the base of one of the levels. So I had to call in and request a piece (which thankfully was free), and had to wait a week to get it. But the end result was worth it.
what piece was missing?
@@epicgamner1139 I’m not entirely sure how to describe it, but it was a long brown 4-stud piece with studs along one side. Bag 7 was torn open, so I was stuck on the Lava Land part, so I had to take one of those pieces from bag 9 to finish that one. But then I needed the rest of those pieces to form the base for Bob-Omb Battlefield, so I had to skip over that section and wait for the spare piece to arrive to finish building it.

Normally I'd make fun of Peebs for struggling to assemble a children's toy but this thing actually looks intense
try out a big lego technic then you know how hard they can get xD
This is not a children's toy, it's a display piece for adults. It even says 18+ on the box!
It's more tedious than anything, I built it in one sitting and it took 6 hours even without losing or misplacing any pieces
Well the target audience for this set isn’t really kids to begin with so
it isn’t a “children’s toy”
Leftover pieces from each bag are supossed to be there.
Most of the small pieces have one extra in case you lose one since they are very small :)

The reason the platform fell on lethal lava land is because you didnt ad the rubber bands and it pops up

you need to put the rubber bands on lethal lava land so the castle pops up instantly, same when you open the block by pressing in the top
I always like to think how the process was to create all this stuff from scratch, how many manpower took to get every detail piece by piece.

Wowsers, that looks great Peeby. I had played with legos as a kid.
I think it was a really cool move and it’s a good set but I feel just the most iconic level from a couple different Mario games would make more sense. It’s also pretty weird that it’s a ? Block in a game where they are barely present.

But for real, it’s both funny and sad watching Peebs struggle with LEGO sets.
I've been building LEGOs for some time now but boy oh boy, I'll never not experience that "missing piece" phase of the build, when you think you're missing a piece but really you aren't and you're just panicking for no reason. Looking forward to experiencing it again later this week when I build my LEGO Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters and Ecto-1 (minifigure scale)
This one is so cool, I really wish there were more Nintendo Lego sets! Didn't know about the interactions with Lego Mario.
By the way, Kaze was commissioned a hack based on this set and it's a short, but really sweet one!

It took me only a few hours to build mine. Although I started work on it at night after I got home from work and I took a break from building it until the following morning. I haven't updated my LEGO Mario to interact with the block. I may need to do that. Although when I make my review video, I may leave that out and will figure it out in my own time.
By the way, somebody did a hack of SM64 that is based upon this block. I think you should check it out.

Hey Austin I also have a tip (from someone who’s been building Lego sets since I was 5) you can sort the pieces by color to make it easier to find the pieces

It looks like you've missed the rubber bands that connect peaches castle to lethal lava land. They should have been in a small cardboard box, it's quite easy to overlook. They go around the spherical bits. There are two red ones and they each connect to a grey one on both sides. At 19:47 you should be able to see what I'm talking about. They make it so it stays folded out when you open it. The other levels keep it together when you want to fold it back into the question block. I hope that what I've said made sense. Also you can open part of cool cool mountain like peaches castle. Hope this helps :)

I think you forgot to put some elastic bands in. The castle should stay up. Also the 64 mode runs out on the lego Mario. You have to rescan the thing when the music runs out. The stars are mostly colour activated

Talking of Lego baby penguins to drop off cliffs, series 4 of the Lego Mario blind bags has a baby penguin kit! It's actually a "friend" type character instead of an enemy, and it even makes that distinctive "Aehh!" sound! Lego Mario can't really hold it, though, so you'll have to throw it off the cliff yourself. Maybe picking up a few blind bags to open and build might be good for a quicker video? (Just watch out, they tend to put doubles next to each other in the packaging!)

Potential hints, do not read if you do not want help as some of these hints give away the solution, you have been warned:
The music is a timer, once it stops you cant collect stars any more and have to rescan the start.
Several stars are simply scan a specific color: Bobomb Battlefield is brown, Cool Cool Mountain is light blue, Lethal Lava Land is orange, Castle Grounds is green, Bowser is purple and 8 Red Coins should be obvious.
Others require moving Mario a certain way: The triple jump is fairly hard to do yet the perfect jump is fairly easy, Tick Tock Clock for some reason you have to spin Mario around while touching yellow.
I dont know how to get the wing cap, supposedly Mario needs to look up and do something but Ive never been able to get it to work consistently.

Word of Advice: Just do what most Lego fans do, organize the pieces so it won't be hard to find them.
