    On "My Car Story" we're in the Suburbs of Chicago on 10-1-16.
    We're looking at a 1960 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Series 64 Convertible in Pompeian Red Paint ( the paint color looks like Burgundy ) and a Pearlescent Ivory stripe. The car has a V8 390 CI engine, and the Eldorado Biarritz has the triple two-barrel carburetors rather than the standard four barrel carburetor.
    In 1960 Cadillac produced only 1285 Eldorado Biarritz Convertibles.
    The car's Owners is Jim Rudnick. Jim shares he was interested in car as long as he can remember, and started drawing cars at the age of 9 and one of his drawings made a car magazine.
    In 1960 at the age of 21, he stopped by a Cadillac Dealership showroom and there spinning on a turn table was a 1960 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Convertible and Jim shares, “it was jaw dropping” and he loved that model car. Jim finally found and purchased his 1960 in 1985.

      That’s true passion. When a guy spends significant money and time to have his dream car. If you have Jay Leno money you can have pretty much any car you want and as many as you want. You can even hire people to find them for you. I’m not saying Jay Leno doesn’t have passion for cars. He clearly does but this guy made hard choices and probably did without other things to have this car. Maybe skipped a few lunches. It probably represents a percentage of his income far beyond the percentage that Jay Leno spent to have his Duesenberg or several other cars.

    The American cars of this period were more than just a car, they were a statement and also a work of art.
    There are very few cars that came after these that can be in the same class at ANY price.

      And GM missed its mark with the Baby Boomers. They were all in for our parents but when it came to their children they lost us to our luxury makers (BMW, Mercedes, etc) and this is a great mistake of GM in my opinion.

      Here in the UK we call these big old cars "Land Yachts" They were cars that defined a different, more creative
      period in Automotive history. Sadly, cars of today have no style, just computer generated clones.

      I just watched it again, I forgot to subscribe the first time.
      Great job filming, except you left one thing out, where's the gas fill, it's got to be in a cool place, I'm guessing behind the round tail lights?
      If it's behind the license plate, I'll be disappointed.

    • @loucostabile
      @loucostabile  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      @bigredc222 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I found where they hid the gas cap, it's above the license plate behind a hidden door.
      If you stop the video at about 5:30 you can see where the chrome ribs start and stop.
      It holds 21 gallons, that ought to get you about 200 miles between fill ups.
      Thanks again

    I fell in love with tail fins growing up in Soviet Union watching crappy black and white clips of USA. When I came here, the used cars were abundant and often unsafe but dream come true. American cars from 50's and 60's are truly epic. Love affair. The 60 Cadillac is a goddess. Lou: You sure love a variety, and that speaks volumes about you. THANK YOU!

    Aportando con el comentario numero 1000 a este excelente video de hace ya 5 años atrás... ¡Vaya, como pasa el tiempo! Tengo algunas palabras para describir a este fantástico vehículo, pero creo que la mejor forma de hacerlo es con la misma publicidad que nos mostraste en el minuto 3:30, y que decía algo como: “¡Para 1960 Cadillac trae una nueva era de elegancia!". ¡No puedo estar más que de acuerdo con ésta misma al ver este impresionante Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz! ¡Ah, y me encantó ese detallado modelo a escala, inclusive del mismo color, que tenía su dueño en ese aparador! ¡Saludos cordiales!

    I remember a lot of men in my family back then, had two sizes of engine belts........one for winter and one for summer.
    The winter belt was smaller, just for engine use. The summer belt was larger for use with running the AC unit, so you didn't overtax the AC compressor, as they were expensive to repair. This is why you don't see the belt running over the AC compressor.

    Thank you Lou Constable & the crew that put this presentation together. Jim created an astounding work of art that can only be created out of love, compassion, and skills of his craft. 1960 is special to my wife and me. That's the year we were married. I went to school with her since 5th. grade. Married 59 years this June 4th. Wouldn't change anything in our lives except for business associates. They were three lawyers an undertaker and older brother. Literally stole 2million from my Corporation. Destroyed me emotionally. What I do have is my wife two wonderful sons Jesus Christ and memories that no one can steal. Amen. Thanks again guys for a wonderful story of dedication and perseverance. God Bless

    Had a 1960 Cadillac hearse. Body by Miller Meteor plate on the door step. Front end same as this car, beautiful. Wonder Bar radio, leather bench seats, AC. First car I could find for under $200 in 1978 Kansas. Guy I bought it off in Missouri used it to trailer racing cars. Big hit with the girls in Leavenworth, they wanted to go "camping" as they called it. Thing had a hydraulic lift to move coffins back and forth, curtains, four huge doors. Filled it up, it went 100 miles and it ran out of gas used a quart of oil. Traded it even for a 68, 2 door, 4 speed, V8, Fairlane that needed a timing chain.

      I'm in there buddy! I've enjoyed your channel for some time! I think it's very important for young people to get even just a glancing appreciation for the fact that American cars used to be a radically new design every year or so! For this service alone your channel is invaluable for these newer generations! You pull from diverse areas also which is entertaining and informative. 😊
      You know, before the internet, the book emporium was about the only way to see most of what you're showing! It seemed to begin fading away as soon as it was produced, but now , wow huh!? We had Hemmings when we were young but most kids didn't. Dad would give them to me and I would pass them on to my friends after reading them from cover to cover. Lol
      Dad had so many of Floyd Clymer's publications too..

    I actually took my drivers test in a Cadillac with huge fins on the back. Back when you had to do parallel parking and I passed with flying colors. To this day I love the old Cadillac cars
