    That's quite lovely, even with some of the glitches. I'm really psyched for MS4. And your advice about knowing what the actual instruments can do is spot on (unless you're Frank Zappa and just don't care).

    It doesn't sound perfect but OMG, the tremolos and especially the harmonic sounds, it's widening the possibilities of composition! Can't wait to use this new version of MuseScore.

      A much neglected solo instrument!

    The viola sounds a bit like something between a trumpet and an oboe in measures 2 and 3. 🙂 But overall, compared to MS 3, the playback of strings and other instruments is much better. And the difference is huge.

    Once again - great video! Thank you (again) for showing what MuseScore 4 sounds like. I am now tempted to start with the beta instead of waiting for the finished product - just to play with the sounds.

    Absolute banger coming up here mate, what I would want to see is how musescore holds up to a well-known soundtrack or symphony if youve the time (maybe once more bugs are fixed)

    • @mccoydtromb
      @mccoydtromb  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I've seen a few people do that. You can probably find some on TH-cam already. I'll get my old scores out sometime and see what we can get going...
      I wanted to really dig into the details of each library with these videos, but that doesn't give an idea of how they fit together into the bigger picture, so that's a great idea.
      Soundtracks would sound awesome with musesounds! But copystrikes are real...

    Musecore 4 is looking very promising. Do you happen to know if the full release will be out before 2024 or is that date looking unlikely.

      The most recent announcement (22 Nov) was they are hoping to have the first release of MuseScore 4 ready in a week, but with MuseSounds still in Beta.

    One thing is that I wish the strings had a bit more range. All of them are missing their top octave - this is especially noticeable on the basses, since their more lyrical top register works quite nicely in melodic passages or transitions into very high string passages. I've also noticed it on the violas, where their top note is the C two ledger lines above the treble staff but the highest note I've played in scale exercises is the B a major seventh above that (and the highest I've ever used in a piece is the Ab just below that).

    • @mccoydtromb
      @mccoydtromb  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Interesting, thank you! I've heard other people say similar things about the woodwinds and brass too. Seems to be a common problem with these high quality sampled libraries. If the range isn't sampled, it's just not there. Presumably the creators wanted to keep the storage space requirements low by including the "standard" range, though nobody seems to agree on what that standard range is, and I suspect there will almost always be someone wanting these instruments to go out of that range. It would have been nice of them to make a workaround, pitch-shifted effort at the very high range so that there can still be some sound in these registers, rather than simply stop playing.

    Unfortunately the solo cello is really buggy right now. Also for the Cellos and basses, some high notes don't have sounds playing right now? I don't know if you came across these bugs yet, but other than that, the strings are really good!

    Some comments on other demos by other folk, refer to Staff Pad. They say Musescore bought Staff Pad and thats where the new sounds and their menus are from. Is that the case?

    • @mccoydtromb
      @mccoydtromb  ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't heard any official word, but I've seen that talk too. Staff Pad and musescore are both owned by the Muse Group, so it makes sense. Best of both worlds, I guess!

    • @lyntedrockley7295

      @@mccoydtromb Interesting. Yes It makes sense. I thought Staff Pad was a M$ software. It was used to promote that all in one PC with a big screen they brought out about 5 years ago. It was about being able to handwrite on screen with a pen and have the music become engraved notation and also allow collaborative working across different PCs and groups. But it was also limited in the number of staves it could use. Or am I thinking of something else?

    3:11 what is the marking above the violin called for that thing sounding high pitch?

    • @mccoydtromb
      @mccoydtromb  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Harmonic. You can find it in the articulation palette. Just don't confuse it with the open symbol.
      The player touches the string in a certain position instead of pressing it onto the fingerboard to get that whistling kind of sound.

    7:23 - accents - where are the accents? I hear all staccatos the same volume level

    • @mccoydtromb
      @mccoydtromb  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, unfortunately that hadn't been implemented yet. I still don't think there is a staccato accent available, but I'd have to check. This video is quite old now. If you remove the staccato in favour of the accent then you get a difference, but no combination yet...
