Mazda has been doing great lately, I love the Mazda 3 hatchback. The design honestly creates a good opportunity to make a hot hatch to compete with the Golf GTI.

Needs a turbo to compete with the hot hatch cars out there, though. Its just not quick enough as it sits. I really don't know why Mazda doesn't offer one.

I gotta say Raiti this is quickly becoming one of my favorite car review channels! I love your personality when it comes to cars you can see and hear the passion you have for the cars you review. I love that you give a brief history of the cars origins without going too in depth, also the way that you thoroughly cover the vehicles from exterior to interior while not being afraid to point out areas you think are flawed or could be improved upon. All in all the more I watch the bigger of a fan I become man, keep up the great stuff!

@@LifeISMagix $399 mo with zero down. if i put 2500 down that would bring it down to 305 per mo. i dont like putting money down on leases because if something happens and it gets totalled you lose that money. the interest rate (money factor or MF) is super low, less than 1% (.0007 to be exact). the residual value on it is 52% base on 10k milkes per year for 36 months. originally i was going to buy a base hatchback on a 72 month loan, but since the interest on the loan is much higher than the lease, it actually works out better to lease for 3 years and then buy out the lease after 3 years if i want.

So last monday; i went to try it and i was so astonished of how luxurious interior of this car was and yes i had a comparison in my head since i visited twice Audi.
    PS
Just comparing the interior and insonorization (ONLY) not the mechanical parts of an Audi.
Last night i went to pick up my new Mazda 3 Sport Hatchback AWD to do my 90 km everyday and take advantage of it's new technologie and comfort or i must say THEY REALLY PUT A LOT OF LOVE IN THIS CAR!

The more I see this car, the more I like it. I don't understand why Mazda persists with the tight quarters, though. The rear space got smaller in the third generation, regardless of what the numbers say. The current model is no different. Having said that, though, I could see myself driving one of these in front wheel drive manual configuration. But I would probably replace the black wheels with silver ones.

So many car reviewers seem to think that this is supposed to be a performance car, just because they want a Mazdaspeed so badly doesn't mean that's what this is. This doesn't compete with the Type R, Golf R, or Veloster N's out there. It competes with the likes of the Corolla XSE, Civic Touring, and the Elantras and Fortes, and thank you Joe for pointing that out! Most of those cars are putting around with a 2.0L or 1.5T at best (and paired with CVTs), which the 2.5 in the Mazda blows out of the water.
I traded up from my 10 year old corolla with a 1.8L in it and I have to say that the 186hp is plenty peppy for me as a daily driver! The car is so incredibly quiet and comfortable for the price!
Surprisingly, the 3 is priced higher in the US over Canada. The top trim in Canada is probably about the same dollar amount ($30,000 and change), but the Canadian dollar is about 30% cheaper!

Joe - great review as always. I had owned this car for 2,500 miles before I traded it in, so I have some information that your viewers might consider helpful if they are in the market to buy one. The 2019 Mazda3 does have a lot of positive points but it also has a few negatives as well. Starting from the outside, getting in and out might be a hassle because the sloping roof line forces you to awkwardly tilt your head down to clear the roof line. If you like to just open the door and easily 'hop in', this might not be the car for you. The rear seats are even more difficult to get in and out of due to the shape of the door opening. Test that out a few times when you go to the dealer for a test drive. The hood prop is a flimsy piece of cheap metal and Mazda should never have used it. Why didn't they spend the $5 bucks and put hood struts? The C pillar is thin as a piece of foil. Press it with your finger and you will see. It's scary thin. One light tap in the rear and it will buckle. The paint is thinly applied and scratches easily. On the positive side, the exterior shape is very cutting edge and the front and rear lights look pretty awesome and work very well. Moving on to the inside. The rear hatch has no cargo net or hooks to put one. Again, more cost cutting from Mazda. The dashboard has a hollow spot right above the passenger side glove box. Press your finger there and you will see that it dips in. This area has been a problem for Mazda. Many have complained about an annoying dash rattle from that area. I took mine to the dealer to fix it. They removed the glove box and secured some wire loom. The annoying dash sound came right back again. Very frustrating. The rear view mirror is held in with some cheap glue. It will fall out on a hot day. I had mine fixed and it fell out again. More cost cutting. The rear view is hard to see out of and has a lot of blind spots. Keep that in mind if you are not a great driver. The drivers side plastic seat panel (where the seat controls are) is flimsy and will fall out. Mazda will remove a piece of excess material and will shove it back into place. It will fall out again. There is also an unsightly gap between the panel and the seat when you sit in the seat that looks pretty bad. The soft touch material on the arm door arm and the center armrest is too squishy. They should be a tad firmer. Finding a place for your left arm to rest is not easy. The door sill is to high and the arm rest is too low. The leather on the steering wheel is too thin and smooth and will probably peel off sooner than later. The cylinder deactivation does nothing to improve its fuel economy and makes an already 'weak' engine even weaker. The safety feature of keeping in your lane (the steering wheel corrects you and forces you to stay in your lane) and the various alarms and beeps will become annoying after a while but thankfully there is a button to disable them. The glove box is made out of soda bottle plastic. Open it up and you will see. The damper/hinge that lowers the door is ready break at any time. When driving around 60+ MPH the car does not feel planted. It feels floaty and not stable. Does not inspire confidence. The 'Sport' mode does absolutely nothing, except make it feel numb. Leave it off. The black roof fabric makes an already claustrophobic interior feel even more so. The left side bolster of the drivers seat feels like cement. Press your finger on it or give it a squeeze and see for yourself. The a/c is weak. If you live in a hot climate or if you hate feeling warm in a car this might be a problem for you. The rear seats do not always latch back into place. Keep that in mind if you plan on flipping them down to haul stuff. Very annoying when they don't latch right. On the positive side, the interior looks pretty cool and It has a nice simple design that looks great to the eyes. I traded mine in because as I got to know the car better, I found the build quality and materials substandard for a car in this price class and my car was literally falling apart on me. I was at the dealer every single week fixing things. I lost confidence in it. The last straw is when I was driving on the highway and heard some bad creaking sounds. I went to the dealer and they told me my lugs were loose and my wheels could have fallen off. Thanks Mazda. www.caranddriver.com/news/a28244236/2019-mazda-3-recall-wheel-lug-nut/
And finally the warranty is the pits. Not trying to knock the brand, I love the Miata and I appreciate that Mazda dares to be different, but the premium is model $28,900 and for that price this car falls short of the mark.

In the news is Mazda faces 70% profit drop as US sales hit skids. Featured in this writeup
"Mazda apparently suffered an unexpected fall in sales of its core Mazda3 compact sedans and hatchbacks. The company remodeled the cars and revamped their engines, aiming to compete with premium European brands like Germany's BMW. But the price increases that accompanied the changes seem to have backfired. U.S. drivers' preference for SUVs and other large vehicles also created an uphill battle for Mazda."

Not sure why it does not have a touch screen. For some, its enough to lose a sale. The outgoing Mercedes GLC had a busy center stack with no touch screen. From Motor Trend: "But our biggest critique was-you guessed it-the new torsion-beam suspension, which dramatically changed the driving dynamics on twisty roads and broken pavement. Moving to a torsion beam detracted from the car," Ogbac said. "It has a good ride on glass-smooth surfaces, but it feels less sophisticated than before and loses composure once it has to deal with successive imperfections." Example: The rear end bounced sharply side to side when driving over a midcorner bump. After so many years of Mazda3 love, we feel jilted; the previous generation's character and personality got lost in the transition to this 2019 model. Mazda still sparks driving joy, but it doesn't do it with the same kind of emotion we're used to."

Owning a 3 sedan for 3 months now, I am not as enthused about the brakes as you seem to be here. They are very soft and feel very anemic at times.
Overall, these are my impressions after 5000mi in my Mazda 3 AWD Select trim sedan.
    Pros:
    * The gas mileage is decent. I'm getting 34mpg overall
    * The performance is good. Not a standout in acceleration, but you never feel like you're struggling to get up to speed
    * The cockpit is really nice for the driver. Everything slightly faces the driver, so everything is in reach and the screen isn't giving off any glare
    * Ride stability is good even at high speed. The car feels very secure even at speeds of 85-90. Buffeting from the wind is non-existent
    * Exterior design is nice (IMO). Obviously this is subjective. I don't think I would say the same for the hatch
    * The audio volume and tuning controls are fantastic. The volume knob doubles as the tuner knob and they are placed down where it's easy to access without taking eyes off the road
    * Automatic wipers are great. Even my Lexus doesn't have this feature.
    Cons:
    * Bumps are hard. Even at low speeds, bumps are felt throughout the cabin. At higher speeds this seems to go away, but parking lots are neck breakers
    * Cup holders are too far away. It seems they spent so much time getting the cockpit right that they ran out of room for the cup holders, so they are quite a reach away
    * USB port in the dash is placed poorly. Plugging in a USB cable into the front port means you're not going to be using the cup holder because it's right above it, preventing you from getting your drink
    * Brakes are too soft and don't inspire confidence. Get them wet and you're betting your life if you need to brake hard
    * The radio station tuner software is buggy. It will remember your last station but it resets to the top of the Favorites list after you start the car, so changing the radio station seems very unpredictable
    * The A/C seems to have a mind of its own. The temperature it's looking at seems to be external temp, so the fan blows hard even if the inside of the car is comfortable
    * The adaptive cruise control is poor. While the overall cruise control implementation seems nice (the indicators on the speedometer are especially nice), the software that judges vehicle distance comes on too late and is prone to stomping the gas and brakes rather than smoothly accelerating and decelerating
    * The backseat is cramped and there are no A/C vents. You touched on this in your video
I like it and would recommend it to anyone. There aren't a lot of vehicles in its class with AWD. It comes in around the same price as the Impreza Sport trim, though the Subaru has better adaptive cruise with its Eyesight system, which is good because it's hard to see with the sun glaring off the infotainment screen.

This car has such nice lines to it, and the over all look of refinement at a fair price.
    Great review thanks for sharing

Does the 2020 Mazda 3 hatchback have a red interior?

That screen gets an EPIC ZONK. It could easily be so much nicer for minuscule cost increase.

The 2.5 is not gutless, you have unrealistic expectations if you see the 2.5 as gutless. Maybe buy a mustang.

This car is a beast, i had 2 Mazda 3's and a Mazda 6 and i really love those cars. If it wasn't for the WRX i would still have my Mazda 6. Love your reviews!

I'm loving how the Mazda3 looks, although I think the sedan looks better in this iteration.
