    JBL isn't just a consumer speaker manufacture, they're quite popular in the pro audio world for their PA Speakers and Subwoofers (the speakers used in concerts and on stages)

      @@DaftFader you are correct about that! It’s honestly crazy to me how JBL shifts their business around like that and manages to keep customers lol SRX series were some great speakers and they all but did away with them. These days I’d prefer EV for PA speakers…but anyways lol

    Flat response monitors are arguably the best for actual production. If you have a monitor with heaps of "character" it won't translate well to different setups

      @@HOLLASOUNDS I personally think it does because the experience of the brand in designing products and upgrading them will impact how it will be directed.
      Even young brands are usually old employees of the top ones that left because of a different view in the future of the company like Eve and Hedd audio. They both got founded by old Adam audio engineers :)

    Yamaha HS7
    1. Frequency Response: The Yamaha HS7 has a fairly uneven frequency response. It features a notable bump in the high frequencies around 5 kHz, which can make the sound seem bright and forward. The midrange is also quite pronounced, which is typical of Yamaha monitors but may not be to everyone's taste
    2. Bass Response: The bass response of the HS7 is somewhat limited, partly due to its rear bass port, which can cause issues with placement near walls. The rear port may lead to exaggerated bass if the speakers are too close to a wall, and inadequate bass if placed too far
    3. Harmonic Distortion: The total harmonic distortion (THD) is relatively low at moderate listening levels but can increase significantly at higher volumes, especially in the lower midrange around 300 Hz. This is likely due to internal resonances
    4. Build Quality and Durability: The HS7 is noted for its durability, maintaining performance over many years despite heavy use. However, its sound signature might not be ideal for mixing due to the uneven frequency reponse
    RCF Ayra Pro 6
    1. Frequency Response: The RCF Ayra Pro 6 generally offers a more balanced frequency response compared to the HS7. It has a smoother and flatter response, which is more suitable for accurate monitoring. The bass is better controlled, partly due to its front-firing bass port, which makes placement easier and more flexible
    2. Bass Response: The Ayra Pro 6's front port allows for more accurate bass reproduction and avoids the placement issues that can affect rear-ported designs like the HS7. This design helps in delivering a tighter and more controlled low-end reponse
    3. Harmonic Distortion: The Ayra Pro 6 shows low levels of harmonic distortion across most of the frequency range, maintaining clarity even at higher volumes. This makes it a reliable choice for critical listening and mixing tasks
    4. Build Quality and Features: The build quality of the Ayra Pro 6 is robust, with features designed for professional use. It is equipped with advanced DSP for enhanced performance and flexibility in various acoustic environments
    Conclusion
    While the Yamaha HS7 is durable and has a distinctive sound signature that can be useful for certain types of mixing, its uneven frequency response and rear bass port design might be drawbacks for some users. On the other hand, the RCF Ayra Pro 6 provides a more balanced and accurate frequency response with better bass control due to its front-firing port, making it a more versatile option for accurate monitoring and critical listening 🤭🫡
    Bye bye the overrated yamaha monitor 🤣

    Lol, JBL do currently make consumer speakers, you are correct. BUT they used to be some of the HIGHEST quality speakers available in the world until they got bought out and focused their brand on shitty little oblong speakers that you take to the beach. They still make high-end stage speakers, but it is confusing why they stopped developing great studio monitors. I have a pair of their LSR4328P speakers and they are my favorite speakers EVER. I don't understand. This doesn't make sense. The primary purpose of studio monitors is to provide the most neutral (flat) sound possible.
    If they don't do this, the music you work with will never sound right. You want the speakers to accurately reflect what music sounds like, as opposed to how you enjoy hearing it. Manipulating raw music in the studio to get it where you want is the whole point.

      You are right, but I’m also not wrong. I said I don’t like how they look which is just a matter of personal preference, and that JBL makes consumer electronics, which is true too. No one mixes their music on PA systems so the fact that JBL is respected in that field means nothing in the context of my video. There are more consumer electronics on the JBL line up than there are pro audio electronics, this means nothing too but it’s true, maybe you just don’t like that I said it. I think as producers we need to stop being hyper critical about things that don’t matter, I didn’t say that these speakers suck, cause if I did, they wouldn’t have made my top 5 list, there’s so many more I could have included

    I'm looking for something that give transparent and accurate reproduction. I would have thought the objective goal. Doesn't "personal preference" come down to mix and mastering?

    • @thozimusic
      @thozimusic  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That too. All studio monitors give you a relatively flat and “transparent” response, but they’re all very different, and we could have the exact same speakers but get a different responses from them simply cause our studios aren’t built the same. The best thing is to pick the speakers that you like and make some tunes. There are producers who will tell you that all these suck simply cause they are using $3000 speakers in their studios, that doesn’t necessarily mean that their mixes are better, it’s all subjective

  • @ESC233
    @ESC233 ปีที่แล้ว

    Confused why you would want a bassy sounding speaker if you are making bassy music? I was taught you need a flat reference monitor otherwise you will have less bass in the end result as your speaker was fabricating that sound

    • @thozimusic
      @thozimusic  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t think I said anything about me wanting a bassy speaker 🤔

    • @---pp7tq
      @---pp7tq 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The rule is - you cannot mix low end if you don't hear it.
      It's not about having bassy speakers, but the ones able to reproduce low end correctly in the first place. Most of these small cheap monitors can't really do it well. In the end, it leads to exactly opposite problem - your mixes will end up having too much low end because you'll compensate for the lack of it in your monitors and I don't envy your mastering engineer correcting it over and over. That's why sometimes it's better to mix on headphones than in bad room on bad speakers, but things made on speakers usually have better translation (depends on headphones too).
