Billy Drummond is blowing my mind cause I’m really learning that he’s another Living Jazz Historian. I know of Kenny Washington’s depth but did not know of Billy’s. I love the history and the people that know it. Beautiful.
all three parts were super great. loved it ! and yes ... many of these drummers i have also on vinyl but many i not heard or just heard on one record. great to have an inside into more music from the view of billy.
This proofs my point. Most of these so called Jazz experts should listen more to the musicians who play this music. Great, great, great, I love this, gimme more man🙂 Frank Butler is great on "The Fox", the Harold Land record and Hampton Hawes "For Real" with Scot La faro,
Not sure if Danny Spencer is still with us today, but he did a recording with trumpeter Dwight Evans who's also another incredible Detroit musician! He was also Stevie wonder's trumpet player for a while!
Danny Spencer moved to San Francisco around 1990. Is he still with us? Also Frank Butler on Hampton Hawes' "For Real" with Scott LaFaro & Harold Land is excellent. Fantastic 3 videos!!!
Nice to hear the shoutout for Danny Spencer who indeed sparked the SF scene in the 90s ( hey Phil ). Danny is still with us but is not gigging. Fortunately there is a video record of this band: th-cam.com/video/XhENW_CpN3Y/w-d-xo.htmlsi=X8-o3RxSGhwGXFsO

Very interesting discussion. Highly enjoyable!
Great series of discussions with Mr. Drummond. I especially appreciate his suggestions of drummers I might not know. Thanks Ken.
An absolute wealth of knowledge. Thanks again for these.
