Completely agree. I like solo Batman stories enough, but I think that there is a LOT of potencial wasted just by not using the character of Robin, who is constantly great. Well, that and the chance to finally have a good Teen Titans adaptation since like 2003.

I love how well Superman, Lanterns, Paradise Lost, and Brave and the Bold connect to each other from Superman being from space and than we see more of space in Lanterns and Paradise Lost having fierce warriors, which will also be a big part in Brave and the Bold.

I love the chapter title "Gods and Monsters." I really like the cohesive nature to keep the animated voice-overs tied to film. The consistency is so important to keeping fans engaged in long-term storytelling.
Same! DC has needed someone like him to make it all work. He learned a lot under Kevin Feige and will apply those lessons into this. It’s going to take awhile to build up so hopefully we get good movies that are critical and commercial hits like the majority of the MCU. Bring it on!!

Something else that helps DC is that after Aquaman 2 we won't be getting any DC content until 2025. That gives us over a year for the hate to cool down and for fans to get a break from the company in general.
Please just don't forget Tim Drake in The Brave and the Bold. As much a part of the Bat-family as he is an important Robin, Drake deserves attention. Let him be Red Robin.
I'm glad about DC Elseworlds. They can tell unlimited stories without needing to bother with continuity and more importantly it keeps thing fresh and interesting. Looking forward to more Elseworlds titles!

Having the story move back-and-forth from animation to live-action is smart. Saves money, plus, you can take more risks. And DC has been stellar in the past with their animated movies.
Terrible idea. The characters should be driven mad by their world changing between live-action and animation. It should be consistently live-action while the animation is another continuity.
Makes sense the way they are integrating live action and animation, as well as gaming. I read somewhere that Gunn was inspired by Star Wars for this new DC film universe. Inspired by the way the canon consists of live action films, animated shows, & video games. I'm all for this approach!
Swamp Thing is a particularly interesting case; it has the potential to be either a massive embarrassment, or something really, truly special. Honestly, I think the deciding factor will be whether the film will be animation or live-action. Animation is the superior medium in this case IMO, as it affords the creators the ability to completely and comprehensively integrate the unique tone needed for a Swamp Thing story. It would allow the creative team to create a more cohesive and pervasive atmosphere. That said, 3D/CGI animation has just as many pitfalls as a live-action film; Swamp Thing would be best served by "traditional 2D animation".
In the modern age, 3D cgi can look just as good as traditional animation. Also, this is definitely not going to be traditionally animated like at all lol, no studio (especially not WB who doesn't particularly like animation lol) would want to spend that much money on 2D traditional animation, when live action + CGI is ten times faster and cheaper. When done right, CGI can be as good or even better than some 2D animation. I'd rather watch a really good live action or 3d animated film than a bad animated one. Spider Verse is one of the most beautifully directed and animated movies out there, and that's CGI.
The fact that they're giving the Authority and the Creature Commandos some spotlight really shows how dedicated DC and James Gunn are to showing off the characters you wouldn't expect in a million years to get their own film or TV show.
Dont understand the criticism of Gunn that hes going to set up the DCU for "younger kids" or "babies", TSS & Peacemaker were NOT meant for younger audiences, hes also got James Mangold for Swamp Thing (the man who directed Logan mind you), he also said Creature Commandos was an adult animated series and i dont expect Waller to be anything less than a grounded gritty drama, i think he seeks to create a balanced dcu more faithful to the source material. Tired of the division amongst snyder, gunn people, whats the matter with liking both? To snyders credit he gave probably my favorite live action adaptation of Batman tho. Optimistic for the future of DC and Legacy will be a strong start!
For those trying to boycott Gunn's Superman Movie...grow up. Snyder Verse is over. Warner Bros screwed up the DCEU miserably. There's no reason to hate Gunn for rebooting the DCU and starting from scratch.
Curious to see how The Flash is handled. Sounds like it will be a vehicle to reset everything (not unexpected, but not sure what that will mean for The Flash going forward). Still very excited for Blue Beetle. And, I hope since we are getting Damien Wayne as Robin that means we will already have Nightwing coming (and established as the original Robin). :)

It seems likke their taking a moderately grounded approach to Green Lantern, and hopefully build up to the more bombastic, space opera/sci fi epic Green Lantern adventures the character deserves in a live-action film. I'm very excited and interested to see where this series goes I am a massive Green Lantern an and I believe Green Lantern aa a franchise has the potential to become DC's Star Wars. I've literally written up 6 scripts creating a saga of GL films that I plan to one day pitch and hopefully iff this shows goes well and line up well with what I hhave in mind then that would be a dream come true.

Best thing about this is that all the stories actually seem interesting. Very few (if any) seemed like "Here's superhero X, here's villain Y, he wants the box/gem/weapon, hero must stop him", which is the trope that both Marvel and DC have churned out recently (excluding Batman/Joker). It's refreshing to be excited about the premise of a superhero film again, James clearly knows they can be so much more...

The problem is, DC and WB didn't commit to the plan and started spinning new projects out of nowhere left and right. I'll believe in this slate if they show they can actually commit to two films per year and not start spinning a bunch of films out of nowhere.

I'm a big fan of the old cast of the DCEU. And I know plans get changed all the time, especially in the film industry. But the way he describes everything in this video makes me really want to believe that all of these projects and the ones after them will come to fruition. My fingers are crossed. DC, you'd better not disappoint the fans any further!
I'm also a fan of the old DCEU cast. And it really frustrates me that they're going to allow Elseworlds projects, but they won't at least let those actors come back in that capacity. However, I am definitely cautiously optimistic about all this. I would have been really excited if they'd allowed Henry Cavill to continue playing Superman, so that's a big blow to my confidence in all this, but I think it could still be great!

And video games! Don't underestimate how huge that is - just look at the recent Avengers game. It was so visually disconcerting to have all these stunt doubles instead of the actors or just using classic comic designs.
@@pantslesswrock Really? The Avenger’s game had plenty of problems, but I thought the visuals and designs were great. They fit right in with PS4 Spiderman and Guardians of Galaxy. Unless the games are explicitly canon to the movies, it’s better not to have the movie actor’s voices or likenesses.
Honestly, James seems like such a nice guy and he's obviously incredibly passionate about these characters. He has a lot of heart tbh, and I am excited to see where he takes these characters. Combining animation and live action cast is also pretty awesome

For some reason I feel screwed with these announcements. It feels like they are moving away from the roots and getting only into new characters and new stories, which is ok, I guess but they can't forget all our beloved characters, like nightwing, batgirl, the new gods. I like the idea of bringing the green lanterns, though it sounds kinda limited with just 2 members of the corp on earth. I like booster gold, he is an idiot basically so probably is going to be fun. I love swamp thing one of my favorites. I think we will have to see the rest of their ideas, see what is next for batman and the justice league, teen titans, etc.

I just posted another comment that I'm getting vibes from Gunn that he might be looking to tell the American Gothic storyline from Moore's Swamp Thing run. That would include significant involvement of the magic-based DC heroes, with Constantine being the driving force. If that's where he's heading, I give him major props for boldness. That storyline is wonderful, but it's also not for the faint of heart nor would it be easily adaptable to film. Just the thought of seeing a gigantic Spectre dwarfed by the Darkness gives me chills though...

The biggest surprise here for casual fans is going to be the Authority! The run that warren Ellis did is a total gem and I never expected to see it adapted. I believe it’s going to be a surprise hit. Kinda of like Guardians of the galaxy or the Boys, going from obscurity to highly popular properties in a short span.
I didn’t expect creature commandos right off the bat. They are one of my favorite superhero teams so seeing them as the show that will help kick off the new DCU blew my mind.
God I can't wait for Swamp Thing. Superman and Batman are sure things. But Swamp Thing can be absolutely terrifying and I'm all about it. I just wish they didn't cancel the tv show. It was beyond excellent.
I was pissed off that it was canceled and not revived at HBO Max, but knowing Gunn’s background in horror like the disgustingly awesome and hilarious “Slither” and “Brightburn” (he produced it) I have faith that he’ll do the character justice and it will be amazing.
While I don't love all the projects I appreciate the variety and I really respect that the artist's vision comes first. If for nothing else there is something for everyone and more obscure characters can get their story told.

I just wanted to emphasize while I personally am not excited for everything I do appreciate what James and Peter are doing. I sincerely hope each project finds its audience and that I can get hooked as well.
DC is flexible. While Marvel/Disney is a machine that won’t stop churning out movies, however mediocre, DC can take a step back and acknowledge, “hey, we messed up.”

I hate that people are ragging on the Gunnverse when he hasn’t even started his actual projects yet. He just gave us the movies that were in production that were gonna come out anyway. So I’m gonna wait until I see his actual projects. I’m personally hyped for all of these 😊
The projects themselves just don’t sound very promising. Lots of lesser characters mixed with overdone characters like Superman and Batman. And he praised Flash and Blue Beetle when they weren’t great, so it doesn’t inspire confidence in these.
I genuinely feel like it’ll be one of the best superhero movies ever. With how passionate Gunn is about it and how apprehensive he was about making it but deciding to direct and write it I think really shows that he has something great. 2025 can’t come soon enough.

@@nbgcash882 I seriously doubt they would make another one especially after the TV show in the amazing original movie. There’s nothing really new to add or to change about the story if they really want to bring the watchmen and they could just tie in the show or the movie.
The Flash film explains that by changing the past he combines elements from different universes which is how Peacemaker and co are in the new universe.
I went kinda mad when I heard these projects. This is _true_ DC, the greatest source of a lot of the greatest comic characters and stories. Now, everyone in this genre will see the true better tomorrow for which my Superman stands. ♥️🛐

I love how well Superman, Lanterns, Paradise Lost, and Brave and the Bold connect to each other from Superman being from space and than we see more of space in Lanterns and Paradise Lost having fierce warriors, which will also be a big part in Brave and the Bold.

I love the chapter title "Gods and Monsters." I really like the cohesive nature to keep the animated voice-overs tied to film. The consistency is so important to keeping fans engaged in long-term storytelling.

Something else that helps DC is that after Aquaman 2 we won't be getting any DC content until 2025. That gives us over a year for the hate to cool down and for fans to get a break from the company in general.
Please just don't forget Tim Drake in The Brave and the Bold. As much a part of the Bat-family as he is an important Robin, Drake deserves attention. Let him be Red Robin.

Terrible idea. The characters should be driven mad by their world changing between live-action and animation. It should be consistently live-action while the animation is another continuity.
Makes sense the way they are integrating live action and animation, as well as gaming. I read somewhere that Gunn was inspired by Star Wars for this new DC film universe. Inspired by the way the canon consists of live action films, animated shows, & video games. I'm all for this approach!

Swamp Thing is a particularly interesting case; it has the potential to be either a massive embarrassment, or something really, truly special. Honestly, I think the deciding factor will be whether the film will be animation or live-action. Animation is the superior medium in this case IMO, as it affords the creators the ability to completely and comprehensively integrate the unique tone needed for a Swamp Thing story. It would allow the creative team to create a more cohesive and pervasive atmosphere. That said, 3D/CGI animation has just as many pitfalls as a live-action film; Swamp Thing would be best served by "traditional 2D animation".
In the modern age, 3D cgi can look just as good as traditional animation. Also, this is definitely not going to be traditionally animated like at all lol, no studio (especially not WB who doesn't particularly like animation lol) would want to spend that much money on 2D traditional animation, when live action + CGI is ten times faster and cheaper. When done right, CGI can be as good or even better than some 2D animation. I'd rather watch a really good live action or 3d animated film than a bad animated one. Spider Verse is one of the most beautifully directed and animated movies out there, and that's CGI.
The deciding factor usually is the script.
I really hope James Gunn directs The Authority, he's great at making less known characters into memorable ones.
The fact that they're giving the Authority and the Creature Commandos some spotlight really shows how dedicated DC and James Gunn are to showing off the characters you wouldn't expect in a million years to get their own film or TV show.

Dont understand the criticism of Gunn that hes going to set up the DCU for "younger kids" or "babies", TSS & Peacemaker were NOT meant for younger audiences, hes also got James Mangold for Swamp Thing (the man who directed Logan mind you), he also said Creature Commandos was an adult animated series and i dont expect Waller to be anything less than a grounded gritty drama, i think he seeks to create a balanced dcu more faithful to the source material. Tired of the division amongst snyder, gunn people, whats the matter with liking both? To snyders credit he gave probably my favorite live action adaptation of Batman tho. Optimistic for the future of DC and Legacy will be a strong start!

It seems likke their taking a moderately grounded approach to Green Lantern, and hopefully build up to the more bombastic, space opera/sci fi epic Green Lantern adventures the character deserves in a live-action film.

Best thing about this is that all the stories actually seem interesting. Very few (if any) seemed like "Here's superhero X, here's villain Y, he wants the box/gem/weapon, hero must stop him", which is the trope that both Marvel and DC have churned out recently (excluding Batman/Joker). It's refreshing to be excited about the premise of a superhero film again, James clearly knows they can be so much more...

The problem is, DC and WB didn't commit to the plan and started spinning new projects out of nowhere left and right. I'll believe in this slate if they show they can actually commit to two films per year and not start spinning a bunch of films out of nowhere.

I'm a big fan of the old cast of the DCEU. And I know plans get changed all the time, especially in the film industry. But the way he describes everything in this video makes me really want to believe that all of these projects and the ones after them will come to fruition. My fingers are crossed. I'm also a fan of the old DCEU cast. And it really frustrates me that they're going to allow Elseworlds projects, but they won't at least let those actors come back in that capacity. However, I am definitely cautiously optimistic about all this. I would have been really excited if they'd allowed Henry Cavill to continue playing Superman, so that's a big blow to my confidence in all this, but I think it could still be great!

And video games! Don't underestimate how huge that is - just look at the recent Avengers game. It was so visually disconcerting to have all these stunt doubles instead of the actors or just using classic comic designs.

For some reason I feel screwed with these announcements. It feels like they are moving away from the roots and getting only into new characters and new stories, which is ok, I guess but they can't forget all our beloved characters, like nightwing, batgirl, the new gods. I like the idea of bringing the green lanterns, though it sounds kinda limited with just 2 members of the corp on earth. I like booster gold, he is an idiot basically so probably is going to be fun. I love swamp thing one of my favorites. I think we will have to see the rest of their ideas, see what is next for batman and the justice league, teen titans, etc.

I just posted another comment that I'm getting vibes from Gunn that he might be looking to tell the American Gothic storyline from Moore's Swamp Thing run. That would include significant involvement of the magic-based DC heroes, with Constantine being the driving force. If that's where he's heading, I give him major props for boldness. That storyline is wonderful, but it's also not for the faint of heart nor would it be easily adaptable to film. Just the thought of seeing a gigantic Spectre dwarfed by the Darkness gives me chills though...

Never thought I would be hype about the DCU until I watched GOTG 3. Now I love James Gunn and I'm geniuenly excited about the DCU going forward.
I'm actually excited we're getting a *Lanterns* show. And the fact that it's also gonna be a sort of mystery genre makes it better since I love the suspense they give. What was unexpected was that Amanda Waller's gonna be getting her *OWN SHOW* bro... AND A LIVE-ACTION DAMIAN WAYNE?!! THIS JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER AND BETTER!!! And I love that they're also giving Booster Gold his own spotlight now, he's actually one of my Top 20 favourites. LOVE THIS!🙌❤️
I'm interested in the "Lanterns" because it's NOT a GREEN Lantern show. Using the imagery of Stewart as a Yellow Lantern is an interesting choice.

The biggest surprise here for casual fans is going to be the Authority! The run that warren Ellis did is a total gem and I never expected to see it adapted. I believe it’s going to be a surprise hit. Kinda of like Guardians of the galaxy or the Boys, going from obscurity to highly popular properties in a short span.

I didn’t expect creature commandos right off the bat. They are one of my favorite superhero teams so seeing them as the show that will help kick off the new DCU blew my mind.

I was pissed off that it was canceled and not revived at HBO Max, but knowing Gunn’s background in horror like the disgustingly awesome and hilarious “Slither” and “Brightburn” (he produced it) I have faith that he’ll do the character justice and it will be amazing.

While I don't love all the projects I appreciate the variety and I really respect that the artist's vision comes first. If for nothing else there is something for everyone and more obscure characters can get their story told.

I just wanted to emphasize while I personally am not excited for everything I do appreciate what James and Peter are doing. I sincerely hope each project finds its audience and that I can get hooked as well.

DC is flexible. While Marvel/Disney is a machine that won’t stop churning out movies, however mediocre, DC can take a step back and acknowledge, “hey, we messed up.”

Some interesting surprises here, I'm really looking forward to seeing how a more cohesive DC film and TV universe plays out. I'm especially excited to see the Batfamily finally make its way to the big screen.

I had the same reaction; I thought maybe we'd see a cartoon or something but live action is beyond my wildest dreams. I'm hoping they make a better attempt at Global Frequency, too.
That's why I like Gunn, he picks the lesser known characters because "I was offered any character of choice to make a movie for, anyone would pick superman or batman, but whose will tell the story of polka dot man if I don't?" -James Gunn.
It should really be rated R (and Gunn has confirmed some projects will be R-rated) and should thematically resemble The Boys
I hate that people are ragging on the Gunnverse when he hasn’t even started his actual projects yet. He just gave us the movies that were in production that were gonna come out anyway. So I’m gonna wait until I see his actual projects. I’m personally hyped for all of these 😊
The projects themselves just don’t sound very promising. Lots of lesser characters mixed with overdone characters like Superman and Batman. And he praised Flash and Blue Beetle when they weren’t great, so it doesn’t inspire confidence in these.
I have a great feeling Superman legacy is actually about to burn the world down with how fire it’s going to be
I genuinely feel like it’ll be one of the best superhero movies ever. With how passionate Gunn is about it and how apprehensive he was about making it but deciding to direct and write it I think really shows that he has something great. 2025 can’t come soon enough.
With how badly DC films are flopping, I now have the feeling that Superman Legacy won't even happen. Maybe the whole DC Universe will be scrapped

@@nbgcash882 I seriously doubt they would make another one especially after the TV show in the amazing original movie. There’s nothing really new to add or to change about the story if they really want to bring the watchmen and they could just tie in the show or the movie.
Planetary would make a great tv show. That series and The Authority changed how I look at heroes and comics in general.
Superman and the authority is one of the good comics.
