Gamecube absolutely will not happen for technical reasons. Each game for the NSO apps has to be stored locally on the console. GCN games are just too big for that to be realistic given how small the Switch internal storage is - and I know you can have SD cards, but Nintendo isn't expecting every Switch user to have a 1TB card. At about 1.4GB per game, a GCN app would get really big, really fast. I'd definitely not expect GCN games until the next console.
So they just make sure you download the ones you play and then when you want to play something else on the GBC, you just download them in the app for free and something else gets cut off. Plus the games might be big files but I’m sure the saves aren’t. So you can still have the saves but also get to play the games. This is all speculation, I have no idea about storing games online.
@BRboi777 That's not impossible but imagine people sitting through a 1GB download every time they want to switch games, or the impossibility of accessing some games while portable (one of the Switch's main selling points). Too much hassle for the simple solution Nintendo wants.
@@GhabulousGhoti I’m pretty sure steam players do this all the time. They just download what game they want to play and delete the ones to make room for the game they want to play. As long as the saves are there, that seems like a decent solution.
@@BRboi777 I agree that would be functional, but remember that Nintendo primarily sells to kids, who probably wouldn't get why they have to manually download games within this one specific app but not in the others when they go on road trips. If it's not super simple, don't expect Nintendo to implement it, even if it would work well enough for adults like us.
I'm pretty happy with what's on serve here. But also because I don't own all the physical Game Boy games I want that are conveniently with the service.
I think it’s really dependent on the person. Both the snes and the n64 apps are in my top 10 most played games on switch, just cause I love so many of the games they already have. I agree that the rate they add games is too slow, but I still think the service is worth it for me (especially cause I split the price of a family membership between a few friends)
"They're not doing much at the moment" *Proceeds to list five big games we recently got in quick succession* Like I get what you mean, and I also wish they were a bit faster with their releases, but realistically do they need to be? I mean if you could buy Smash 64 or Donkey Kong 64 on the e-shop right now would you do it? I'm gonna guess not. Most people only want them because they'd be free now, not necessarily because they're dying to play them. And I mean, there's very few big titles that are left now. NES and SNES are pretty much covered. GB, GBA and N64 have a little more to go but kinda just a handful more titles each on Nintendo's side. Several GameCube games have gotten remasters with 3DS and Wii games following that trend. Almost all big Wii U games are playable on the Switch. With the Switch 2 being backwards compatible, and probably getting GameCube and DS games on NSO, we'll have the biggest Nintendo library ever on a single console. Just have some patience. There's enough games to play in the meantime while waiting for the NSO releases. Edit: And why are you paying the 50$ subscription anyway if you don't like what Nintendo has to offer? Just pay for the basic plan, which is dirt cheap, if you want to play stuff online.
Good video! If you don't any online games for the Switch, the service definitely isn't worth it (especially the Expansion Pack). I really only have NSO for Smash Ultimate as I enjoy playing that game a lot online (even if it isn't the best online experience, to say the least). If you're wanting to play retro games, I think you're better off looking elsewhere, though. The Virtual Console was even a much better service as it offered way more. Nintendo's online services have always been lackluster, but this one is especially poor. There are a million and one ways to play retro games nowadays, so I would say skip NSO and just go play the games you want without relying on Nintendo's shoddy service.
I definitely agree..Nintendo doesn't seem to care anymore, besides if it gives them hella hella money and thats upsetting honestly. I love the older WII and 3/DS games but they only choose stuff that no one wants to play
That's the irritating thing about game companies these days and especially Nintendo. They're scared of having to compete with their own past works, and thus go out of their way to make them less accessible.

they don’t have a lot of big games to push the service at least for switch 1 owners so they’re probably trying to spread out these releases
I only ever had it for Splatoon and even that's kinda gone out the window.
