    JD, double check filling your rear tires with water. I believe water could cause problems (rust/corrosion/etc.) down the road. I believe their are fluids specifically designed for filling tires which will not cause long term problems.

      I checked with several companies and farmers who said water is perfectly fine on a new machine with oem tires. Since the rim is unlikely to be scratched inside there is very little change of major rust forming.

    Skid steer or tractor? That depends on the job you are using it for.

  • @paulnelson7384
    @paulnelson7384 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Tractors are landscape equipment, light moving of mulch, dirt, sod, and with the three point you can fertilize, rake, mow, or seed. Track loaders and skidsteer are for heavy landscaping and lite construction. Retaining walls, spreading topsoil, lifting heavy pallets, and dealing with steep slopes are skidsteer wheelhouse. Dealing with wet soils track skidsteers out class all other equipment.

    You rip everything up with a skid! I like my Kubota BX25D with tires!

      Actually no. A CTL or compact track loader will not tear up grass unless the operator is trying to. A skid steer with wheels will tear grass out very easily. A decent operator paying attention however can stop that by paying attention to the way they drive. JD is very knowledgeable on many things but on this video I think he should've had someone more knowledgeable about skid steers help him compare the two. I have multiple tractors and a skid steer. Absolutely for some jobs the tractor is better and for others the skid is better.

      Actually, I personally saw how our yard was ripped up by this exact track steer while moving clay around. The operator, who has 40 years of experience with one, was trying hard NOT to damage the yard, but every turn and even the tracks alone trampled the yard. So, not sure there is any better person to talk about this than the person who had a damaged yard when it was done. Not the fault of the operator, it's just a very heavy machine. Same thing happens with my Mini Excavator.

    • @chucks4328
      @chucks4328 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BigTruckBigRV I won't say a CTL will leave a yard completely undamaged. Not all tracks are the same. The tracks on an excavator or bulldozer have cleats on them to dig giving it traction. Those will absolutely tear up a yard. A Ctl has a flatter wider track made for flotation. Maybe someone put more aggressive tracks on this particular CTL. A wheeled skid steer literally has 4 tires that can turn it like a top inside it's own radius. That's not good for grass. I just have to disagree with you on this issue. I'm not trying to trash talk you or anything. I still enjoy your videos and I'm sure I will learn many things from them.

    If you genuinely need a skid steer, its time to go to auction and get a dozer or a tracked loader.
    Most, if not everyone needs just a basic lawn tractor with a bucket, maybe some counterweights, and you're good.
    One thing worth touching on is getting things unstuck. If your property gets muddy and you get a car or truck stuck, anything heavier than a lawn tractor will yank your truck or car right out. The lawn tractor may not be enough. Just something more to consider.

    Don't forget Agriculture, inside buildings, behind cattle, moving manure/slop, large round bales of hay, rock' brush, tree removal and just some convenient loader work. No matter our age, we want to play with heavy equipment.

    Not really comparing the same hp machine and price.
    The tractor is probably around 28,000 skid steer 55,000.
    Almost twice the price.
    Tearing up your yard. Lol
    Don't turn sharp. Not the end of the 🌎.
    The biggest thing with the skid steer is it takes up less space. Can be nice for many. And it's much faster to get turned around.
    They both have buckets. If the buckets were the same size.
    The skid steer would move a pile of dirt in half the time.
    The main reason to get a little tractor is to mow the lawn.
    But for many it's to slow and not very convenient for going around stuff.
    And it's heavy compared to a zero turn.
    If you're buying a machine to do loader work that's about this size. And spending about the same money. The skid steer will kick this tractors ass.
