Hi Justin! Thanks for the great video. Question - do you know how/if you can record on the OP1's built in microphone directly to the DAW via usb? It can obviously send the synth/drum synths but I can't seem to get it to pick up the microphone...thoughts? Thanks!
Audio over USB!? That was one thing I sometimes missed back when I owned one. Impressive how they're still updating this 10 year old supercool supertoy. I swapped mine for a house (I sold it and used the money as part of the deposit for a house, that is).
I would have to test it ...... but in theory you might be able to do it with 2 channels if you panned on left and one right in the mixer. Not with 4 tracks though as it is only 2 track i/o
I tested it this morning and you can record 2 tracks separately from the tape by panning one left and the other right in the OP-1 mixer. The set up 2 mono channels in the DAW to record, one from channel 1 and the other from channel 2. This is pretty cool. Had not considered it when I 1st heard about the update. Thanks for thinking of it and sharing the idea!
I tried doing this with my OP1F and have failed a few times. I can get it to midi trigger. But I can’t get Ableton to send audio through the usb to the OP1F as a sound card and can’t get sound into Ableton. Is ht new unit any different?

This is amazing, but i didn't wrapped my head around the possibilites of the USB interface yet. The only thing i did for now is to capture audio from my computer thru usb to test. lol. But i am sure that would be very useful in the future for me and for other guys.
any hidden tweaks? still hoping on an monophony option on the drumsampler, like the op-z. and of course regular ADSR on it as well, but the first one, tiny tweak, massive improvement for people like me who'd like the sample chops in 1 patch to cut eachother off. this is amazing though, just the fact that the op-1 is even capable of having this usb function with its 10 year old architecture

@@dannygreenwald969 Unfortunately I don't know Pro Tools at all but it sounds like to me that you might need to disable the outputs for the driver that are going back out to the OP-1

Hi, is anyone having issues controlling Ableton with the new update? To use it as an audio interface and as mentioned in this video worked perfectly, but now if I want to deactivate that and use it as a normal midi controller for Ableton it doesn't seem to be working like before - with the standard mapping

Works great in logic but as I like to do recording on an ipad I'm now unable to use the OP 1 as a midi controller as ios only allows 1 audio interface and the OP 1 overrides whichever combination I connect it , I could just use the op 1 as the interface but it doesn't have the features of my usual setup, although I suppose the OP 1 is more of a portable standalone synth so can't expect everything.
Update, finally got both working by connecting audio interface last , it's a shame apple couldn't update ios to allow more than one audio interface at a time
Question: are you able to transfer audio via usb as well as use midi at the same time? Like could I control an iOS synth while also sending op-1’s audio to an iPad daw?
@@HotStrange The good news is yes,I initially thought I had to change to control mode to use midi which disengages it as an audio interface but I've since found the midi works alongside the audio interface I.ve just tried it in AUM with korg ims-20 and it works fine, hope it helps
Was not able to get it to work with FL studio or Ablelton , in preferences it only shows Synthesizer( OP1-1 Midi device) Wave ... I am using windows 10 and Ableton 10, any help ?
I am in the same boat, i haven’t found a practical way to use my op-1 with windows ten yet. I’ve tried it with reason and ableton and both seem to be capable of sending audio into the op-1 but i haven’t been able to play synths and have them record while i can hear what’s being played. Asio4all seems to get close, but i haven’t gotten it to work without switching the drivers and that’s just not doable for any workflow
@@_justin_joe the op 1 battery is definitely weird the way it works also the battery indicator at times is not accurate there's also issues with that aswell but definitely this machine is by far the greatest thing I have come across.

Yeah, and I totally understand where you are coming from.... Here are a few reason this might be exciting for some people: -If you don't have an sound card or want to record into your ipad. -If you want to avoid recording any of the noise or ground loops that are ever present in some setups. -You want to "multitrack" 2 channels from your tape (panning one left and one right in the OP-1 mixer)
You can also use the line in as an interface to record just about anything you want (i.e. stick a preamp in front and use mics, record another synth straight to daw). Also for me personally, running pro tools on windows is a nightmare without an interface so this is great news even just for pro tools playback without lugging my UAD Arrow around with my laptop
@@_justin_joe Tested a bit myself - it doesn't show up as ASIO device, unfortunately. But in testing in AfterEffects, I set it to 30ms latency on MME device and it was not breaking up or anything like that
When I plug my OP-1 into my computer it sees it as a generic usb device. I'm using windows 10. I'm not hearing any sound from the OP-1 from the computer. When I open up reaper, it reads it as an output device and not an input device. Am I doing something wrong?
@@_justin_joe yes. I actually got it to be used as a input device. Reaper will see it as a incoming instrument. But I can’t get the audio to send out to the op-1? Reaper will see it as an output device though.

With the OP-1 connected to the DAW on the computer have can you hook a (full size 49 keys) MIDI keyboard to play the OP-1?

If I don't have output buffer size maxxed out, I get horrible tone..so I have a massive audio delay. Any tips??
How many tracks do you have open in your DAW? Also how many effects plug ins are you running ot have open in your session?
@@_justin_joe have the issue even with only 2 audio tracks and 2 midi, 0 effects and plugins. My cpu usage is pretty low too, and my PC isn't that bad

Does it work as a low-latency interface? Have you tried playing softsynths through it?
Have not tried that yet but the latency seemed pretty low when I was recording the OP-1 into Ableton
