    One really awesome thing I missed: When in tape mode, try hitting Shift+Stop to increase the grid resolution. This gives you the ability to really get in and make micro edits to your tape tracks in awesome ways.

      And what about zoom? I don't get whats the logic behind. Only works when you are on play and hit shift left or right - but in a wired way!?

    Just got an OP-1 Field, never owned or used an OG. WOW THIS VIDEO IS USEFUL! So many TH-cam videos pack a solid 30 seconds of content into a 10-minute video. For this? Thank goodness for pause and slowdown! This is CHOCK FULL of useful tips and tells so much about the tape functions. I expect to spend a couple hours following along until I really "get it." THANK YOU!!

    Re-watched this today, and caught more stuff than I did when I first got my field. You’re a fantastic teacher, Jeremy. Only thing I would add (unless I missed it?) is recording in reverse (shift + record + play)

    I’m soooo close to pulling the trigger on an OP1 it just looks so much fun. I also appreciate that they included a beautiful OLED screen with 60hz animations. Most synths manufacturers have their screen as an afterthought as cheap as possible to keep price down, but this thing just looks amazing.

    This Sunday, finally, I had the time to watch all the episodes of this fantastic video series. Thank you for this, a couple of years ago I got this little monster second hand and it was a blast. For me it is very hard to finish a track because my music skills are pretty basic but, even with this limitation, I can spend hours tweaking some ipnotic loop I got just fiddling with all the stuff op-1 provide. It is an incredible and powerful device and your videos and guides are always informative and well produced. What I would like to see is maybe something on your post-production with Ableton just to get an idea of what kind of improvement you make after exporting from op-1.
    Thank you again 💖.

    For me it would be interesting to see a video that explains/shows different ways of joining different sections of a song because I tend to add stuff to a "loop" and then i get stuck with the loop and have a hard time changing section. I find it hard to do risers / drops in a way that works, on the op1.

    • @chuchetuma
      @chuchetuma 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      No doubt it's an awesome machine, but I wouldn't say it's a starting point. I would recommend you get a midi controller and play around using FL Studio or a similar DAW. It's much cheaper and you can go a long way with that. You can have so much fun

    • @Ferrichrome
      @Ferrichrome 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've been thinking about this a lot lately, if you just want to make music and don't care about the look and feel of things I'd just get a DAW like FL Studio or Ableton. On a DAW you're free to try all sorts of different instruments and devices without many limitations. If you're making music more for fun and want something hands on something like this is nice.
      I'd just be weary that hardware has its downsides, eventually you're going to hit some sort of barrier, maybe not enough tracks, doesn't have the instruments you want, etc. If that doesn't bother you then by all means hardware might be the way to go.

    • @dammills
      @dammills 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s a lot of fun to use, but it does have its limitations. The synth engine sounds good, but it really isn’t deep programming wise. The tape recording can be a pain if you’re not paying attention to what you’re doing. That said, there are so many fun things to do with it and different tricks to pull off that it makes the whole experience enjoyable. Plus they retain their value on the used market pretty well if you decide to move on from it.

    • @walrtbstudios5430

      Tando If you have an iPad, get yourself AUM (essential), something like the Rozeta Suite for sequencing, a handful of soft synths, and a midi controller/ keyboard. That should set you back less than $200, and would constitute a world of fun. Don’t have an iPad? Then buy one of those, THEN get yourself AUM etc etc...
      There is some decent budget hardware out there; this is not it. I bought three hardware synths, an interface and a midi keyboard for far less than this costs. Start small.

      i bought it for that sole reason. i dont use daws, i dont understand them. maybe one day ill get into daws or something but the op1 itself is fun as heck! i have no regrets and everytime i pick it up whether im able to get the right sound on tape that day or not im still having fun! it's easy to get into and im still learning stuff after playin on it for about 3 months. id say get it bc i feel like youre in the same boat i was when i thought about getting it, just wanna make some music and have fun, with the ability to make it more serious if you ever feel like it bc the op1 is awesome and as people have stated here you can also use it as a midi

    Thanks for the tutorial and all your content. The question is not specific related to the video but If you could help that would be awesome. I just got an Op1 and what I've been finding weird is why my volume changes from tape to synth. I mean If I'm on the tape about to record something and playing, my synth sounds lower than when I'm actually in the synth panel. I don't get this variation of the sound level. For instance the level of recording affects both pages, also the master volume. So why is it a bit lower on the tape panel? Appreciate the help! Thanks a lot.

    Question: Around the 17min mark...How did you lift and drop that drum loop into the sampler? I got a little confused there

    @21:22 he shows how to record your voice (or an acoustic instrument etc) through the mic straight to the ALBUM. I’m following the steps precisely but its not picking up my voice. Trigger is down, gain is up. I can record the tape and synth to ALBUM but its not picking up anything through the mic when I press the mic button (while in REC mode on ALBUM. Any thoughts?

    Do any of you record straight into ur DAW directly, then separate all four tracks for manipulation or what's the process for mastering in the DAW?

    So it’s completely linear music making then? Can you quickly get to different sections ie verse chorus etc??

    Hey mate,
    I really love your videos! They have so much of a teaching characteristic, that I was able to learn lots of new things about the OP-1. I have one question according the recording in Stereo. I know that all the synth engines, FX and also the tape recorder are Mono. Except for the main mixer, the EQ, Drive etc.
    How do you record you tracks, so they sound perfectly clear and wide? Is the only workaround to use two separate tracks one panned to the left channel and one to the right and duplicating the records within these two tracks?
    Thank you! :)
