Thanks Justin.
SO interesting bc it’s always felt that the Octatrack had a similar groove with MIDI to the MMT-8, it really reminded me of it
Just replaced my Octa MkII buttons and was pretty disappointed that, despite also asking for replacement knobs, none were included. Shipping and duty cost me damn near as much as the caps did, so almost $100 Canadian, but they came from Sweden in like 3 days.
I bought the pack but there is no sysex file for kicks, only the whole project on the tonsofdrums :(
I can send you a separate sysex. Email me justinjoejones@protonmail.com
Where I can find to buy new buttons for my ?
Where do you source replacement keycaps?
I just can't get the new firmware in my Blackbox. I download it to my Windows desktop and drag the bin file to my sd card but the Blackbox does not recognise it.
Just bought it on sale, thanks for the informative vid!
Excellent!!!
Thanks !
You bet!
💯 agreed
Really thanks for the tips 😊
Cheers!
i thought blackbox also only had 16 chops and not more, and ther eisnt even a star tand end point to set by yourself on a blackbox.
Didnt know some of those… really cool. Thx
Cheers!
is there a way to automate or modulate the process of creating random locks. As designed each random lock is a static thing which on the long run is boring or needs user intervention all time.
Yes, by using and LFO set to start point. It’s a great and quicker option to change random locks
I hear ya, i use koala as well but often go to spdx tangerine and blackbox, even the po 33 one of them will solve the problem!
Thanks for feeling my pain
I bought my first HR-16 in April 1988. Got rid of it early 90s and always regretted it. Got a nice clean unit off eBay recently and having fun using it again.
So underrated
Neat vid. I've had mine for a few years and love it. She looks naked without the side panels. Thanks for the efforts!
Haha. I thought it looked pretty clean without the side panel so I left them off last time. I had the unit open. Glad you’re enjoying the bids. I’m hoping to do some more more Tempest videos soon.
So many slots you won’t know where to begin!
glad to see this, does the new replaced button still have the soft touch surface on it?
They sure do. Feel great and like new
All good thanks.
Thankyou 👋🎯👍
How much did they charge for the full set of button replacements I bet it was not cheap
The buttons are relatively cheap. It’s the shipping from Europe to the USA that’s the killer. Was almost as much as the buttons ($35 if I remember correctly)
Is it possible to get the LM-1 Mod? If So i'd like to purchase
Yas, send me an email justinjoejones@protonmail.com
Thank you
How do I find your stuff on eBay? Do you see EPROMS or entire units only or what?
Listings are up this morning on Reverb and Ebay. You can DM me there for Eproms and other inquiries. Just search Linn Drum HR-16
Will this work with the HR-16B?
Absolutely! DM or email me if you want some more info on the Mod
Wow this is crazy! wish I'd had this option in the late 80s. I had the MMT8 as well. would have loved this.
when you first hit those toms I thought we were about to get rickrolled
Thats Hilarious!!! 🤣
had this, and the sequencer, and the Linn. That was a great drum machine.
Who did the mod?
I did.
dope but no punch
I thinks is the recording. It hits pretty good actually
@@justinjones2595 wish had individual outputs
It does have individual outs 4 mono or 2 stereo
@@_justin_joe i mean for every sound like the linndrum no groups
@@12bitizthewaytogo92that’s not a problem. You just have to do a few extra passes to record the sounds into your DAW individually. That’s how we used to do it back in the day when we worked on 24 track tape. …lol
Glad to see it’s easy to do this. The only thing I could use swapped is my A knob. The push to clear a lock function doesn’t work 100%. But this will need some soldering which is not one of my abilities lol.
I have seen some folks clean gunk out of the button actuators with some rubbing alcohol. Might try that
@@_justin_joe good idea!
maybe if i get one of these i can finish a track 🤣
😂
vintage!!!!! man this looks like fun
didnt know a pretty machine could get any better looking
elektron also made this relatively simple compared to grooveboxes/synths in the past, much welcomed
I totally agree. Its pretty simple and painless
where is the trick? if i hold down the trigger and turn level, it is adjusting the level and not scrolling the slots?
Hmmm… strange is not working. Are you placing the trigger before holding it down and turning the level knob?
Can it emulate a double mouse click?
I do not believe so
The factory kit in Roger’s Beats actually has “Simmons Tom” programmed already using the triangle wave and white noise. Very similar to this.
On nice! I forget about those kits/ beats sometimes
My first drum machine. I used to use it to trigger my Emax2 sampler. Speaking of "swing", there were a lot of New Jack Swing songs made using this drum machine. I saw it in so many studios that I ended up buying it myself.
Ah yes, New Jack Swing!!!
I love this Drum machine, but it’s frustrating that it forgets the sound selection and routing as soon as you leave program. at least with mine, every time you have to reconfigure all the sounds and routing. Really a bummer.
All you have to do is hold "Record" and press "Voice" to save the sound assignment To store the mix and routing settings hold "Record" and press "Mix"
Thanks for that info….very useful and definitely right, there is very little info on TH-cam about the ins and outs of this beast! Are you able to access hard drive storage say on a computer or portable through usb?
Unfortunately you cannot address it like a hard drive via USB Only way to manage presets, kits etc is with SysEx messages via USB with a SysEx manager software
Tip I just realized the other day: Play a beat, alter the beat parameters while playing till you like say the new kick drum at lower osc pitch (for example) YOU CAN SAVE THAT KD TO KICK DRUMS and it will sound exactly as it sounded with beat/parameter effects. Saves lots of sound design time. You took the wooden panels off? Looks good, thanks for the vid :-)
That’s a great tip. Thanks for sharing! Yeah I took the sides off for a small repair and decided I like the way it looked too
This case is also great for the Plinky.
Would like to see more of you rocking the 1010 blackbox. great video.
Thanks, I actually parted ways with the black box. I think I’ll probably buy it again someday, but for now it was missing some crucial features to my workflow that they kept saying they were going to add, but never did. Namely, centering around editing slices.
Thanks for explaining! Just got a Tempest and had been wondering about the exact same things. The Tempest looks great without the wooden side cheeks BTW, very retro-vintage. I also decided to not use the cheeks. :)
I’m so glad it was helpful. Appreciate the comment. I took the cheeks off one day to open the unit and thought, dang that’s looks good without them.
so many old pieces of gear had multiple outputs. I wish more modern gear had that
SO True!
Hefty price tag for a rompler.
🤣 If thats all it was.....
12 analog oscillators say orherwise.
@@adamwhite1934 100% Sir!
I thank you for these insights, I was dramatically inspired by your first message about abandoning your first Octatrack to eventually owning a 3rd Octatrack. There is that horrendous feeling when you get home with one's first OT and a few months later still feeling lost; so True. Perseverance always pays off.... And this should be the first message on the OT Manual.
Greatly appreciate your comment. It definitely pays to just stick with it. Now it’s my go to, desert island piece that I would never sell.
thank you for this, im going to back up my files before install the drum files you made, but can you make a quick video on how to install SysEx files?
I’ll try and do that video for you here in the next couple of weeks
@@_justin_joe wow that would be really appreciate as i would like download those drum patches you organized but i dont want it to delete any of my current patches. looking forward to it and thanks in advance
