I own a Refuge 2 and could not be happier! Was installed from digging the hole to being covered up and landscaped within a few hours.

"for whatever reason" Seriously, alternating steps, in a hurry or carrying children is asking to fall down onto your face, knocking yourself out, unable to latch the door and getting sucked up by the tornado you were trying to escape. Why not just make the steps full length and get 100% FEMA approval. The extra depth required wouldn't be that much.

I was thinking the same - also nearly impossible to help a handicapped person down if that’s a factor. Still looks like a cool shelter overall.

In Texas in areas with high water tables, we cannot fully drain our pools without a huge risk of the water table popping the pool up out of the ground (not fully but a foot or so, even a few inches ruins your pool), so we need to leave water in them for the counter weight, to make sure this doesn't happen. How do you prevent this same effect with the fiberglass shelter and no weight to keep the water table from lifting it when rains are heavier than normal?

@@websurfin9575 No i live in heart of tornado alley they are the safest thing to be in unless its flooding which we have both problems here then you would drown I highly doubt a concrete storm shelter would pop out of the ground for that reason it would fill with water but never say never has this happened where you live?

I think it would be better to buy an above ground steel shelter.

No please don't do that unless it's got concrete poured over it they will not save you from a tornado

Tell that to the people of Jarrell, TX and Joplin, MO. There was nothing left but the foundations after the F5’s.

That small shelter is too small for 6 people! The door should be MUCH thicker! The big shelter door is too thin! They should withstand 300 mph winds! ONLY buy 1 pc. shelters! Don't put dirt on top of the shelter! It'll blow off! Pour concrete on top. DON'T buy these!!

These companies make fiberglass shelters look unsafe. Unfortunately most concrete and steel shelters are not much safer.
