Not sure if it's possible in Portugal, but one could open a roadside stall selling this and goreng pisang and other things.. 😁 I wonder how well it would go, and where one could actually do this and not have the police paying a visit..
Congratulations Cristiana and Francelina for successfully making the roti keramat. Thank you too for promoting roti keramat to your people in Portugal. I am so happy that you, (Cristiana and Joao) have fond memories of Terengganu for you to take back to Portugal. Thank you for appreciating the Terengganu village bread. Hope you will be back to Malaysia soon.
Finally, Chef Christiana plus aunty Francelina making "roti keramat" Great of you guys to introduce this simple but super "sedap kuih" to your family and the Portuguese friends. Wonderful it's approved, yay!! Good and great of you, Joao, that you can still remember so many Malay words. Interesting to see grandma enjoying the roti. Thanks a bunch for the "WE" made roti keramat vlog...✌️✌️😋😂
I was born in Terengganu but lives in SG now. Kayu Keramat is a traditional delicacy in my Kampung in Terengganu. In some places they call it Jeneke or Jenekek/Jeneket. In translation: Kayu Keramat in English means Sacred Wood/stick or Roti Keramat: Sacred Roti
@@ajhussin4134 betul tu, ingat lagi my mum make this a few times a week for breakfast before school in the 60s. I missed it since living in London for 40 years We can get them here but its Char Kue or Patongkol which is savoury
I like how grandma dip roti keramat to condensed milk like we do here in Malaysia. And the environment in the kitchen, the jokes, teasing each other, similar to Malay families.
This couple really admire Malaysian dishes so much... Hope our Malaysian Ambassador in Portugal will find u guys and give some rewards or token as promoting Malaysia to your society
I feel this is coming a full circle: Centuries ago Portugal influenced "Tanah Melayu" (Malaya) with their culture; and now the Travelgramers brings Malaysia influence back into Portugal. Lovely to see you are enjoying your love desert of your life Roti Keramat, Christiana. Best wishes from Malaysia. Keep the love of making Malaysian food going!
Thanks guys for introducing roti keramat to ur portuguese family members and neighbours. Roti keramat is such a simple yet tasty snack and it will be getting much tastier when dipped in hot black coffee or tea 0 or milk tea (condensed milk)...just wanna say something about the milk tea that u served. Milk tea using condensed milk should use more than one teabag compared to normal tea (tea o) therefore the colour of the condensed milk will not overpower the colour of the tea and would give a right balance in terms of taste (sweetness or bitter or tasteless) and colour (dark - more tea essence, bright - more condensed milk, it should be in between)
Travels and food recreates back wonderful memories anywhere in the world. Very glad you chose Malaysian food to bring back a little of our tropics to your home! Your aunt has a TV set from the 1990s in the kitchen. That's gonna be a valuable collection in the next few years. Keep that set in good order.
At the rate u r going, doing Malaysian dishes - u will soon acquire a repertoire of Malaysian cuisines. One thing leads to another, u might end up opening a Malaysian restaurant in Portugal, or may be yr hometown. Alternatively, u may revolutionize yr aunty's restaurant with M'sian fares. Portugese will patronize yr aunty's restaurant for the novelty & speciality as long as u stick to the authenticity & ethnicity of the dish. Obviously, actual ingredients r key, n it isn't a problem at this time & age to source for the real thing. It's just mind over matter after yr unplanned long stay in M'sia, granting u an in depth knowledge of the country to boot.
I must admit - I'd never heard of Roti Keramat before watching this video. It does seem to be similar to other sweet deep fried batter breads (e.g. cokodok, which has banana mixed in with the batter). When I think of strange Terengganu "roti" I think of "Roti Hamlet", which, despite it's name, has nothing to do with Shakespeare, or Denmark. It's just a Roti John with an added sausage in the middle. My favorite Terengganu foods are Laksam (some might say this is a Kelantan thing, though) and Losong (a type of Keropok Lekor which you can eat directly from the packet without frying). By the way, the opposite of "sikit-sikit" is "banyak-banyak".
This is the sweet char kue not the savoury ones No relation to jemput2 or chokodok Roti keramat is roundish in shape while Kayu keramat looks exactly like char kue or petongkol except its sweet not savoury
come to Terengganu and try kayu keramat/roti kamat. we eat for breakfast or tea time. people said it taste like chinese chakoi, but having taste kayu kamat since childhood, i think it tastes differently from chinese version of chakoi. kayu kamat is denser (lebih padat) than chakoi and donut. some people said kayu kamat is almost the same as pak tungku as in northern states, but I havent tried the original northern version.. kayu kamat and roti kamat is the same, actually it is not super sweet, but of course with more sugar than donut dough since it is not coated with sugar, it can be eaten on its own
@@MrPanda-ke9rf cha kueh/chakui is savoury Roti/kayu keramat are sweet If you watch Cristiana vlogs she will confirm that patongkol & chakue are not the same She left Terengganu for the west coast then came back looking for kayu/roti keramat but could not find it so had to take a bus to Marang to get it
"Terengganu way" 😂. I remembered when I went to Terengganu, almost everything tasted sweet even the rice and soups. My brother jokingly said one chef is going around to sprinkle sugar to food that isn't sweet enough.
I live in a state of Selangor on the west coast. I have never tasted this Roti Keramat before, even when we were in Terengganu. So, you know what? I am going to make this based on how Christiana did...haha. Malaysian learn to make a Roti Keramat from a Portuguese, ironically.😁😁😁
1.The trick when you use yeast you should cool the dough for a while in the fridge or you use cold water from the fridge..it will make your dough fluffy.. 2. if you less the sweetness in the roti keramat dough you can eat it with sambal anchovy (sambal ikan bilis ) or peanut sauce ( kuah kacang sedikit rasa masam) not same with satay peanut sauce..sardin tomato sauce in can also nice..
Thank you for the roti keramat recipe Christiana. I am actually eating Portuguese egg tart while watching your video. Ha ha.funny is'nt it.You are having a Terengganu snack and i am eating a snack from Portugal.Much love from Malaysia.Stay safe.

The actual pronounciation is Roti Khamak😊
Kayu khamak
We’ve seen different variations of the spelling and pronunciation for that reason we decided to stick with roti keramat 🙃🙃
wah so lovely!! Roti keramat in Portugal!Love From Malaysia!

My paternal grandmother came from Terengganu and she called this kuih as KAYU KERAMAT. Yeah, its delicious..can eat it just like that.
Kayu keramat is longer like char kue
Roti keramat is more round in shape
Ya kami panggil kayu kramat jer...
@@TheMan-xp4cb yeahh... For Terengganu people, those who made it more rounded in shape call it 'roti keramat'. Longer one, we call it 'kayu keramat' 😅
