What a cool build. In 1951 I was a precocious 6 year old in love with cars. This Chevy fastback was a favorite. My mom drove a clapped out 1940 Chevy 2 door sedan with a hole in the back floor board "Don't you kids get near that hole. Fall out that hole and I won't come back to get ya. So sit down." Mom, always looking out for us. This is a beauty build. Your color choices are spot on. Thanks so much for the build and for lighting up mom's memory again "...don't fall through that floorboard."

I remember holes in the floorboards, too. Them old metal dashboards. Great memories.

I remember - when i was a little kid - maybe kindergarten or first grade - my family and a few others in the neighborhood were in a car pool and the various mothers would
take turns driving the kids to school. One particularly poor family was driving us to school in an old station wagon and myself and a another kid were breaking off pieces of the
rusted floorboard and dropping the pieces onto the road as we drove along. The other kid would yell, "bombs over Tokyo"! as he dropped a piece of rusted floorboard !

@urbanurchin5930 very vivid and beautiful memories. I never rode in a car with a "hole in the floor," but certainly, with your comment, I can even feel the moment as if I was there on board. Thanks for sharing. Greetings from Mexico. Gracias!

the injection of plastic into the mold at that point gives a better fill of the emblem
a little file and sand work
I might buy this kit for the engine and tires and build the car as a gasser.

Well, now…your approach to those fender liners was genius! The directions in the kits I had previously built instructed to cement them to the frame rails as opposed to your approach of fastening them to the interior. I was wondering how that would work when it came time to align the tops of those pieces; the two hood-off still shots at the end convinced me that you should write the assembly directions, or at least suggest to the manufacturers that they try your assembly method BEFORE sending out the final sheet.
Well done; thank you for that!

A bit late on this but it popped up on my feed...a lovely job Chris, always impressed with what you do with rattle cans. On the bumper fill in pieces not being bodycolour, I can empathise. I just completed a Heller 1/16 Citroen DS19 and didnt spot the insides of the window frames needed to be black. So now I have a small white plastic line showing. I can worry about it and have moved on...Lovely kit, I will be building mine stock also and fitting the rear wheel skirts 😎

beautiful build chris, amt missed some details, wrong hubcaps, and some fit and finish, grew up riding in grandpas all original 50, you got most of this car spot on, and as you say, it is your model, you did awesome, they barely changed detail from year to year, and what amt missed was cosmetic stuff, i would buy one,

There's something special about these 1950s cars in terms of the design and color choices. I like the fact that AMT put a sheet of Bare Metal Foil in it; I built Revell/Monogram's 1959 Caddy twice and that definitely would have benefited from that, because the decals they used to simulate the chrome trim in the second one I built last year didn't work as well as I had hoped.

My father had a Sinclair service station and I saw cars being dismantled and repaired. Chevy stovebolt engines were usually gray or navy blue. Our '54 Chevy 210 had a navy blue six with a yellow, orange and red "blue flame" on the valve cover. Upholstery on the 51's were usually gray. Instruments were different shades of silver. And what happened to the fine scored lines on the grille bottom?

It takes a long time to dry, I use a dehydrator.
Just be careful after application and it should harden off in a few days usually.

I don't think this is that old of a kit. I think it was released when Ertl owned AMT. When I bought it, it didn't come with the chrome foil. The version I bought had a stock kit photo on the box. I found a resin chop top body on line. There was a fair amount of fitting of the inner fenders, the glass, the top of the interior tub.

This kit kicked my tail. Instructions were sub-par at least for me. Particularly the inner front fenders butt joined to the firewall and radiator. Squaring/plumbing that part of the assembly was NOT easy. Editing later the same week. I abandoned this build. First time ever I had to do so. Body would not set on chassis even after removing interior tub. Do not buy this kit if you are a beginner like me.
