    Just a quick add on to your excellent vid: I drove one of these for 3 years in the 1970's and then went on to command one in the early 1980's before becoming the "Staffy" of a Troop which deployed to Desert Shield/Storm with three AVREs (plus two AVLBs and three Spartan CVRTs). It's a shame no one makes a matching model of the enormous 7.5ton trailer that they almost always towed. Incidentally, any paint on the face of the dozer blade scarcely survived more than a minute or so once the tank started dozing work, consequently the blade face never got painted unless there was some kind of parade or inspection coming up. The exhaust outlets were always completely rusted and the paint on the exhaust covers blistered and burnt off very quickly (from the centre top, outwards).

      There is a trailer model, by accurate armour. But expect its ridiculously expensive. I was AVRE crew-9Tp.

    I like your building videos. They are very informative...and most important to me, you talk what's necessary. Some modelers talk and talk and talk endlessly. Thank you!...

    Just wanted to say I absolutely love your presentation style and clarity. Everything is explained in detail with clear reference to the products you are using. I just ordered a Centurion AVRE along with many of the products you listed in your video to attempt my own build in the coming weeks! Keep up the great work.

    I randomly came by your channel after falling off with my tank modeling 10 years ago. I have thousands and thousands (and probably ten more thousands) of dollars invested into the hobby. I built only WWII Tanks in 1/35. I would strongly suggest that you create some weathering tutorials. I would love to watch them, and they would be invaluable for new and experienced modelers! You are an absolutely incredible artist. Thank you for inspiring me to find some joy in the hobby again!

    I love your weathering techniques. I feel like most modelers don't really understand how dirty tanks get. I was a tank commander on an m1 and I distinctly remember seeing weeds growing in the tightest nooks and crannies on tanks that had been field training for especially long periods of times. That should give you an idea as to how dirtied up they really are.

      I think it's mainly a question of intent. Do you want it to look like an active duty vehicle or more of a museum piece?

  • @donlunn792
    @donlunn792 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I worked at Bovington. Not the Museum. But the base repair workshop.Abro,DSG. Occasionally there would be a Cent in for work. And they were my favourite tank. From when I was a kid seeing them come past our house,on “Mighty Antar tank transporters” on the way to Portland. To go to Egypt (Sues crisis) ,and Cyprus. They were always my favourite tank.
    At Bovi my mate used to drive them,after the work needing doing, and they had steel tracks.So coming down the hill,and turning into the main road towards the workshop,(Past Lawrence of Arabia’s cottage) they had to come round very slowly or they would drift! Terrific British tank.
    Absolutely Beautiful model.

    I crewed one of these for 5 years in Germany back in the 80s, they never usually had the hush puppy tracks, they were fitted to the REME Cent ARVs. Kit would look much better with the metal tracks that they usually had fitted but great work on the kit 👍

    My only 2 points would've been remove more paint from the blade or add more rust and i wouldve gone more crazy on the mudd in the rear like some chunks that have been sprayed up from the tracks !!!
    Other wise ive found a new hobby channel that i love and will definitely come back for tips to help me start making my own models !!! Great video

    Andy, I just subscribed to your channel. The first one I saw was the Fairey Swordfish. Your skills are amazing! I've been modeling since I was 7. RC, plastic kits, you name it. I am 51 years old and your skills are absolutely mind blowing! You have the skills of a world champion! Did you ever go to competition? In my humble opinion, you should! Your builds put a huge smile on this geezer's face! Damn!👍👍👍😁😁😁

    Excellent built. One tip - you don't need to use bit expensive method for raw steel texture like Anti slip from AK.
    Much better result for steel texture obviously is Tamiya grey putty diluted with extra thin cement and tapping with brush.

    Results continue to be excellent. I do hope we don't see you go the way of some other channels with VMS. Their products are excellent, no doubt, but they also seem to be the brand most aggressive in getting channels to exclusively use their products and it can start making models look very 'samey' and preclude interesting alternatives. So whilst I hope any relationship with them is good for your business (who would not wish that!), I do hope we still see some variation from you, because it would be a shame to see you hemmed in.

    It seemed a tad strange to see the turret basket sitting on the engine deck but then I thought of the different reasons why they might detach it. I think maybe the story here is that it also has a fascine frame and if the fascine is being carried you'd not be able to reverse the turret if you needed to.

    Just sharing something I went and looked up: CARC Green and Black are Cold War era ‘Chemical Agent Resistant Colours’ They are a real acronym, not a fancy name SMS came up with. Well, we’ve all learned something new today… 😉
    Except for all those clever buggers who knew already…

    • @jamesbednar8625
      @jamesbednar8625 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are correct. CARC paint is a Cold War paint that was supposed to repel any chemical agent that got onto it and make decontamination of vehicle a lot easier. Also, it is a cancer-causing paint. It was supposed to be most lethal in liquid form thus persons actually painting a vehicle had to where certain chemical protective gear/breathing apparatus. Once the paint dried it was AOK. AND - something that we learned the hard way while in the military, the cancer producing agents from CARC paint was also supposed to be quite lethal if the paint was burned off of a vehicle (like if a vehicle was burning after being destroyed in combat). PLUS - my favorite - this stuff was also supposed to be lethal if you were trying to grind through the paint with a grinder, thus producing DUST. We were told by our officers that using our GAS MASKS would protect us from breathing in the dust except nobody bothered to provide us with appropriate filters for the masks!! I was a safety representative in my unit during the 1990s and had to learn all about this crap - quite scary what CARC paint was capable of doing to the human body - surprised that I am still alive after messing with that stuff. Your comment brought back a flood of memories dealing with that stuff.

    Amazing techniques, now for this mere mortal to attempt to recreate at least one of them.
    My only negative comment would be on the use of rusting on the vehicle chassis. If this is meant to represent a vehicle in military service I know for a fact that the crew would be in all sorts of ka-ka allowing rust to form on anything other than the exhaust. Even there they would be in trouble. Just a comment on an amazing transformation.
