I love how sturdy and “together” it looks. That Joe Pye will definitely end up somewhere in my yard. Last week my daughter and I went on a garden tour in our town and there was one pollinator friendly yard where the front yard was completely native species with little paths through everything and it was really fun. But yeah, the Joe Pye was so tall; I mean you were thinking you’re in Vietnam or some thing! It was crazy junglelike - yours is a good compromise. Thanks for the response. Subbed. That "red spike" is Awesome! 🙌 Maybe a couple of Arborvitae Tater Tots in that Honorine Jobert area and mix in some Skyward Pink Veronica's, if enough variation between heights together, would be nice to fill in with color. But ... not like you don't have Arborvitaes already growing there 🤷♀️ plus You'll figure it out anyway! Very nice tour explained on side garden, Heather. Looks fantastic, and so do you! 🥰

Ah yes, that’s challenging. I’ve witnessed dog walkers deliberately walk their dogs over to the edge of my side yard as though I built this space for that reason! And then they leave behind “the gift”!
I love your selection! You space your plants so far apart. I have them a little one a hands length apart to cover the ground. I don’t have to worry about mulching anymore and the spots that are bare I plant creeping phlox and thyme.
I actually plant tighter than recommended to shade out weeds faster. It’s probably not that’s obvious on camera. I don’t want to go too close and this works well for me. Thanks for watching!

Hi there! While less likely to develop leaf spot issues, it’s not immune as you know. Theirs a fungal cause and a bacterial, both of which can camp out in the debris beneath your plants so good sanitation is important. Also, overhead irrigation can be a breeding ground. Instead use soaker hoses to avoid getting the leaves wet. Good air circulation is important too.

I am trying Castile peppermint soap, very diluted hydrogen peroxide mixed in distilled water. Any tips to keep squirrels away? I planted cat mint and other plants that are supposedly repellant. Any tips would be appreciated 🙏.
Hello! I’ve noticed in my garden that if I have summer blooming alliums planted near plants deer tend to like, I have fewer issues. But there’s no telling what a hungry deer will tolerate. I have used organic repellants but they’re very “fragrant” and the neighbors are not fans.

I noticed that part of the new garden bed borders the sidewalk. Do you have problems with dogs peeing on the plants? I'm trying to find some plants that can withstand dog urine. Any suggestions?
I’ve caught a few people walking their dogs into the bed to pee. Very frustrating and disrespectful IMO. So far, American Goldrush rudbeckia, Millenium Allium and Neon sedum are holding their own despite the golden shower. 😂
