excellent content I have been growing microgreens for 50 years I was growing the greens and wheatgrass for Hippocrates in boston with Ann Wigmore and I like you techniques It is evolving...
Don't know if the paper pots and seeder and tray are new or new to you, but love that the innovations keep coming. So cool. Just a backyard gardener, but gives me faith in the world that problems can and will be solved.
Hi Curtis and all other Farmer’s out there I am in Japan and I use the same flats over here they actually for rice transplants. When I use them I put a cut to measure paper ( something like a vapor barrier you use for roofing) in the bottom of the trays which keeps preventing any roots going further down. Helps especially when you stack em up for a few days. Hope that helps. As always great content in your videos - thank You so much.
hey Curtis I use perforated baking sheets and the problems I've discovered with stacking them especially with peas and sunflower shoots is that the roots, and the shoots on the peas, grow through the perforated holes and into the next flat which is a pain in the ass... I now put a piece of greenhouse plastic in the flat before putting my soil in, and then I put another piece of greenhouse plastic on top which keeps the moisture in and I get fabulous germination and The Roots don't grow through the holes. It also prevents the soil from drying out so quickly, I'm in a pretty dry climate like you are.

Hey Curtis, Love the videos! I have been noticing that people have a lot of different opinions on what flats can be used for Microgreens. I notice that some suppliers don't inform what type of plastic they are using for their flats and some say it has to be #2 HDPE for it to be food safe but I have noticed that most the black flats (the flimsy ones) are either #5PP or #6PS - I'm wondering if you have an opinion or know what to keep an eye out for as far as types of plastic used on flats?
Hey Curtis, I recently stopped soaking my pea seeds. I find that they take maybe a day longer but they germinate much more consistently and eliminates the chance of turning some to mush and greatly reduces the chance of mold. You may have already done this and choose to soak for your own reasons.
I've been toying with the idea of an ebb & flow pea sprout germinator, but was wondering if maybe something as simple as an aquarurium air-stone would be enough to favor germination over fermentation. May as well try both I guess.
QuicK Question!! I've been watching scores of microgreen videos and one question keeps coming up about Leachate and food grade containers. I guess ABS and many other plastics may leak small amounts of chemicals into the soil / plants. Also Seed seems to be an issue also, if there was a breakout of bacteria (Like E.Coli) which would spark a health department inspection how do you protect yourself from liability?
Thank you! I have done fodder feed for a few years with the standard trays and they don't even last a year. We are getting ready to jump in and try some micro-greens, thank you for the inspiration and instruction!
Hey Curtis, Wanted to make a clarification for everyone, the flats are a case of 10 for $65, not $6.50. All orders are a flat $20 shipping fee. Thats $6.50 each, I think you said that in the beginning of the video but by the end it sounded like you were saying 10 for $6.50. I got all excited for half a second :-)
your book just came in today, looking to be doing some raised bed/micro green work next year after a few more months of research and community outreach
Hi Curtis, Thanks for all this great valuable sharings. You now use these paperpot flats. I can buy them in France trhu Terrateck. You also use the drop seeder. It is incredibly expensive! Do you recommend it? What do you use it for? Thanks Hervé
hey curtis, I am turning a lot in san marcos into a raised bed garden using drunken compost tonic for the bulk of my soil. (because that is wayyy too much money) luckily their is a fish hatchery close by to get freee fish emulsion for an extra kick to my soil mix. I will post pics in the comments once my raised bed caterpillar tunnels with plants. you rock big time and would not be doing this without finding your channel. im also on a war path to get off grid. solar/wind/natural gas.. yesterday the city of san marcos turned off my power to my tiny home and almost killed my dog. (I cannot bring him shopping or leave in my car because texas is hotttt) they screwed up my auto pay billing and blamed me and had no sympathy whatsoever. farm on!
Great Canadian content! so happy to have found you Curtis! one question are these new trays that you use , food grade? i saw something last week on youtube about the importance of using that when growing micro greens ... looking forward to your feed back
Curtis, now I can see why you held off on any other seeder purchase. How many basil seeds drop from each hole? I usually shoot for 5 in a TLC 200 tray.
Bula Curtis have you got any different seed plates tuned in yet, if you have please could you do a video on this, In the video you have dialed in Basil. Thanks Dave
I'm about to be ordering some flats to start growing (building out a shed for growing) and selling microgreens. I would like to order those sturdier trays and not have to worry about replacing trays as they fall apart; how many trays would you recommend starting with? The deciding factor for me ordering these as opposed to the cheaper alternative is how many I will need to get started. If I need more trays than I have budgeted for these nicer trays I'll have to get these a little at a time as I grow my farm.
G'day Curtis Ash here from Queensland Australia. I really enjoying your videos. It would be awesome if you could add a section for microgreen in your playlists. Cheers Ash
I wonder if there is a bottom tray to fit this, in case if one is interested in bottom watering. Or we just have to buy a bigger bottom tray for the watering and place these flats.
Hey Curtis, I want to start urban farming but I dont know how to get my foot in the door when it comes to living in a saturated farming area like Texas where every restaurant buys from huge farms that already have a big hold on the market.
That is not the only way a small farmer can sell produce. Make a business plan. It really helped me to find a way on how to market and sell. A quick google search away and you will have sample business plan for small farms
They don't grow microgreens or hydroponic (aeroponic) foods. They generally aren't organic and the market is growing for these things. You can also grow microgreens and hydroponics year round. So, research will answer your question and little bit of creativity.
I'm disappointed that he doesn't disclose anywhere in the video or description that he is a co-owner of what he is recommending! Edit: I'm seeing he does disclose this in other videos, so doesn't seem malicious, but still, should be disclosed here
Hello! Love your channel!! prob a dumb question but here goes: When the flats are ready for light, do they sit in a solid tray of the same make ? Meaning do these trays, like the other brand, come in a solid and a perforated version for the under watering? or maybe you have a different under tray method for these ...sorry , im new to this :)
Hey Curtis Love the videos TY Can you comment on the cost of seeds for micro herbs and how much you use per flat. Do you need special seeds for micro Herbs?
Hello, Which plastic material can we use to make a shed if we have to do out in the field? Is it the normal green house plastic or is it more softer than that.
Hey there! Great video. I haven't watched all of your videos so I'm not sure if you've covered this somewhere else, but do you have a recommendation for where to get healthy seeds? Some of your links aren't working on your site or hear btw. Thanks for the education!
@@durtissanchel If you go to his videos and do a search, he keywords them (he also says this in a lot of videos) haha. But, He uses Mumms quite a bit. I'm going order a majority of my seeds from there, but they are out of the sunflower, he lists another company Trueleaf Market as well. I hope this helps Christoph!
I've been looking for tougher lifetime 1020 trays and been really bummed. For micro greens, I'll be switching to this product. Thanks. I'll be ordering about 20 of them. Oh I can get lifetime 1020 sized veg propagation trays nut they only sell by pallets. Can't find a distributor for smaller quantity. Maybe diego can get them and sell retail? Company is Proptek with sales office in California.
So I ordered these flats from Curtis's website and quickly realized that I needed to buy extra trays for these flats to sit on to let water drain. Unfortunately the only ones I can find are the 10x20 trays. Has anyone found a good solution to this?

hi just wanna know where you bought the tray?
Vexermeister I live in Japan , so we get them from the rice farmers

The seed plate is awesome! If u r seeding by hand you will save time by seeding just by seeding the length rather than doing the width.
Do they make a compatible solid tray (non-perforated) to go under it?

@@INVISBLCustoms so where did you get them? I am from NL
Thanks for sharing the info on the new trays. Has anyone tried growing without using soil with these trays?
I missed this video... You are the King, Curtis. Definitely one of my TH-cam Heroes!

I posted a video recently about how I plant them dry, check it out if you haven't already.
I appreciate the tip, I had seen this vid once before now a second time watching and Im ordering as well. Indoor grow here we go.

beautiful work. I think the seed plate is a great alternative to vacuum seeders.
If the trays have a lip, will you be able to stack with the weight needed for sun flowers?
Adam SevenThunders I think you could level the soil higher and they Ed get the pressure

i missed it. where do you buy the flats at?
Paperpot.co - And the seed spreader thing he was using is 400 bucks
paperpot.co/product/nursery-flats/
They're $75 on their site
Curtis your revolutionizing in real time is so exciting!
You’re
The 1 inch deep flat is better than the 2 “ deep ones that I find in the stores in Toronto. Thanks for the tip.
Hey Curtis, that's a very useful video. It's crucial to use good and sturdy trays. Thanks for sharing
Those trays are sweet, especially the way they stack. Nice💚
your book just came in today, looking to be doing some raised bed/micro green work next year after a few more months of research and community outreach

what are the most nutrient packed seeds we can use?

Whatta salesman. Gotta love Curtis
Fantasic show bud!! That seeder is amazing and the thick flats!!! Thanks soo much
Paperpot germination trays are currently $9.50 each...
Do u still have to add a container to hold the water underneath?

Great Canadian content! so happy to have found you Curtis! one question are these new trays that you use , food grade? i saw something last week on youtube about the importance of using that when growing micro greens ... looking forward to your feed back
Hey Curtis,
got a question about your microgreens. How do you water them? Just shower over the top or differently?
Thx.
Have you figured out the other microgreens with the seed trays? Can we get an update on this?
Yes. An update is coming soon.
Really nice. The stacking problem solved!
Curtis, now I can see why you held off on any other seeder purchase. How many basil seeds drop from each hole? I usually shoot for 5 in a TLC 200 tray.
Any update on the drop seeder hole sizes for ideal seed density? Are you using two or three different seeder plates? Make that vid please.. ☺
You are amazing! Run your own business and still have time to make videos to educate others. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
What kind of soil do you use. It is store bought in bags.
Woah. Those are awesome. Looks like they are somewhat larger than the standard 1020 tray?
Could you tell us in a future videos what seed plates you use with what seed? Thanks for your effort!
For the Paperpot green’s trays. I would be using them in my kitchen. Where do I find trays with no holes so I can keep soil and water from leaking
Looks a lot better Curtis! Keep it up!
Curtis, you ROCK! Thank you for another quality share!
These are awesome! Thanks Curtis for another informative video.
Beautiful! Thank you soooo much for sharing this powerful information. I’m ordering now.
I'm willing to bet you will use less seed with this new seeder. I'd love to know......... upping the game another level bro!!
looks like an awesome product, have already sent shipping cost query. I thought you said seed tray contact stacking increased germination ?
I'm about to order trays direct from Japan... Hoping to order a speed plate too... Just not sure what hole size for best versitility
Do you test your microgreens for bacteria? I'm just getting started and wondering if its a waste of time or necessary.
Looking to get Into the microgreens game, live in a area that has zero competition and lots of cash flow. How can I dip my toes Into this.
Nice trays, but it looks like they don't make them anymore. I couldn't find them on their website.
Amazing!
Where can I get the seed plate set up?

hi sir,
just wanna ask, it is ok you put the tray not pressure the soil?
please advice
thank you in advance
Já tem disponível no Brasil???
Curtis, with the Paperpot.co flats, do you have a problem with weighing down the pea or sunflower seeds? Since the flats have those little spacers.
G'day Curtis
Ash here from Queensland Australia. I really enjoying your videos. It would be awesome if you could add a section for microgreen in your playlists. Cheers Ash
Hi Curtis. What width are your holes in your flats? Im having trouble with peas growing through mine and getting stuck.
Speaking of plastic...where does Curtis source his clear plastic clam shell boxes for salad greens ?
I wonder if there is a bottom tray to fit this, in case if one is interested in bottom watering. Or we just have to buy a bigger bottom tray for the watering and place these flats.
Great Flats!

try growing gourmet stuff. the stuff, big farmers won't have. Gourmet garlic for example.

Curtis (or anyone), do you have a way to weight these trays for crops like sunflowers?
Hey Curtis where can we get that drop seeder? when I click the link it says "page not found".

Boot trays work great!
Hello, Which plastic material can we use to make a shed if we have to do out in the field? Is it the normal green house plastic or is it more softer than that.
So where to buy the new flats
Hello, one question, do you only use the trays with holes and stack them? when do you use the solid ones I ask so I know what to buy.. thanks.
Use a pepper shaker instead of a open top jar to spread seed
Hiya would you be able to let me know what hole diameter drop seeder you're using for the basil seed?

Awesome! Are they made from food-safe plastic?
So are they doing as well in these new trays even without a weight on them?
I assume they don't stack them when they use weights.
Hi, how the bottom watering effectiveness of this type of trays? Is there any bottom tray that is fitted with this? Thanks!
Hai Curtis, I need a clarification the flax seed coats are coming off the microgreens does this have anything to do with humidity.
I’m having trouble finding the trays and the seed spreader only.
Do you have to put a little soil on top of the seeds (of other varieties) to get roots to go down without weight pressing on the soil?
Can you use regular screens that you use for a porch or window?
Is the Digital Tools package any different from the one day online package that i bought? description seemed too similar

Could someone please explain to me the difference between Tray with and without drainage holes. Any recommendation for which is better?
