Apollo (Carl Weathers) boasts for the cameras, prompting insults from Drago's (Dolph Lundgren) Russian handlers.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
The third sequel to Sylvester Stallone's boxing blockbuster combines the ringside sports melodrama of the previous installments with the Cold War patriotism of the star/director's other motion picture series of the 1980s, the Rambo saga. Stallone is back as Rocky Balboa, the heavyweight champion of the world and now good friend of his one-time nemesis, Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers). Creed is brutally slaughtered in the boxing ring during a lop-sided exhibition match against the superhuman Russian boxer Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren), an event that Rocky takes personally. Vowing revenge against Drago in the name of Creed and the United States, Rocky is invited to the Soviet Union for a matchup and hires Creed's former manager (Tony Burton) to get him in shape. While Drago trains using the latest technology, Rocky's ascetic preparations are a low-key affair of carrying logs up hills through knee-deep Russian snow.

Carl Weathers was beyond awesome in this role. He exuded so much attitude and charisma and confidence. I loved these movies as a kid but watching them as an adult made me really appreciate how important Apollo was to the storyline and the franchise.
Yes absolutely, if there was no Apollo there would have been no Rocky. Apollo was SO important to the series with Carl Weather's performance, that the whole series CREED is based around him and he isn't even in it!

The great thing about Rocky IV is that Dolph Lundgren was close to being a completely unknown actor at the time. It made his role as Ivan Drago more believable and frightening.

I actually love Talia shires acting here. You can tell just from her look/persona she's not cormftable with the situation, doesn't like the disrespect and behaviour at the conference, and knows Drago is very dangerous, I think she knows tragedy is close.

I saw this movie in the theaters opening weekend. The line wrapped around the block twice. In the final scenes of the Rocky/Drago fight, the ENTIRE audience was standing and cheering Rocky on like we were at the fight. When Rocky won, we jumped up and down and hugged each other. Great memories

I just appreciate how much of an absolute showman Apollo is. Like, even in the face of possible death he's thinking about how to turn it into a positive. Think Apollo lost his cool? He was putting on an act. Dude may have had his fatal flaw in his pride, but he always knew how to work the show.

This was just an exhibition to hype up the fight, you can tell because at the end, just after Apollo finishes yelling to Drago, he turns to Rocky and says "how did I do? " and Rocky says "I little too loud for my taste, but good". The issue was that the russians didn't understand it that way, they thought it was a formal conference or whatever, and because of that they actually got mad at Apollo
