I'm ready for it. I'm not scoffing at these videos. There's a guy who won a car constructor's approval to drive a race car on the actual track he race on using his game console. He was so good at it and the actual track was so closely emulated on the console that the guy drove qualifying laps on the actual track with the actual car. So, I'm going with this information, this stuff counts.

As a retired Hornet driver, you should be keeping your radar switch in Standby until you're in the air. Yes, the Hornet has the weight on wheels system, however it's a safety precaution for ground crew in the event of sensor failure.
@@Petq011 it literally is, I practice starting a T-45 everyday and although it’s not as advanced as an F-18, in no way is the procedure for starting an aircraft as hard as flying an aircraft. I don’t need to watch the video to know that, that’s just aviator knowledge
As an ex-RAAF Avionics Technician and Hornet engine runner, this is over simplified. There's things like a full switch check, firelight and warning tone checks, not to mention closely monitoring EGT, RPM, and Oil Pressure (to name a few) on start-up. There's very strict operating limits and you need to be on the ball to catch if something is out of limits. It's a complicated beast and there's a lot going on when starting one. If you miss an overtemp, or under pressure, you've just cooked a million dollar+ engine. We also used to have the displays turned on prior to start so that as soon as the generator is online, you have additional monitoring informtion available to you,

@@yanerik6850 Yes, it's a legitimate expression, and actually quite dull...lol "Military Power" describes the power range that can be achieved without engaging the afterburners. Engaging afterburners delivers more power, and this is known as "Maximum Power".

Yeah...That's why they had scrambles. Some fighter jets were prepped to be faster to start up.. The b52 was prepped with explosives in it's engines to jumpstart THOSE. Those engines take a while to spool up normally.

It has been several years....I was a turn qualified mechanic. You need to verify oil pressure and check for a hotstart by watching the temp gauge. If it gets too hot too fast, you need to bring throttle back and let the fan spin for cool down before attempting again.
Very correct. Miss turning the plane. Only thing is DCS doesn't have hot start, run away, low oil, fires. No need for Throttles, bottles, and egress. Dang I miss it. I was a Turn Qual Instructor, it was fun.
😂 starting Alphas and Bravos with dial indicators was fun, especially when the generator gets online and it would self bit and go all 9's. Sitting on the lex and watching a new trainee freak out 😂😂😂.

This really helped a lot. I just got an F18 from auction and taxi'd it off the trailer with an ATV. Had no clue what I was doing but after fueling it up with a bunch of jerry cans I ended up watching this video and was off in no time at all! The nose really does lift itself, you're right!
You're confusing the time it takes to explain all that in a video....and the time it takes a seasoned Naval Aviator to do it. Besides, most of the 24 Marks of Spitfires still needed lots of idle time to set the fuel mixture because of inconsistent octane quality.
Ah, this video is a godsend. Here I was, sitting in the cockpit on an F/A-18C and going nowhere. I didnt know that I would have to turn the battery switch on, but now I do. I will be taking off soon!
Imagine trying to teach this to someone who does not know what the "Auto" headlight setting does on their personal vehicle. This Checklist is a Masters level of education for the average NPC. Very well done, and thank you for the level of detail.
Unfortunately there is now an auto High Beam on Teslas cars which people use and drive with during the day and night. It does not work well and blind the other cars
We cemented our downfall in proficiency when we abandoned the manual transmission. I think I'll make a custom shifter knob with hieroglyphics on it, just in case the one thief that wants to steal my truck can actually read. X3

You don't. You can enable random system failures in single player and alter the chances of certain equipment failing, but I'm not even sure if the BITs will tell you what's wrong. That being said, the faults are pretty in-depth.

I miss the sound of those birds starting up. It's an amazing and yet haunting sound. The smell of the engines. The downside was when I had to wear my firefighter gear and stand near the running engines while the bird was being fueled up. Your eyes would water even with thick goggles on because the engines were turning, and you could see all the way inside. It was a strange charcoal bbq smell, and your eyes felt like they were getting a mild dose of pepper juice. Lol. Good times. Vfa 146

The switch will toggle itself off and shut down the APU automatically, as will the engine crank L/R

• On HSI, select stored heading.
• Wait for INS to align and report “OK”.
• Set INS to IFA.
7. Configure Flight Controls
• Press FCS reset while holding FCS BIT switch.
• Select FCS MC and hit FCS.
• Uncage the standby attitude.
8. Set Altimeters
• Set standby altimeter and radar altimeter.
9. Prepare for Taxi
• Set HOOK BYPASS to FIELD.
• Turn on anti-skid.
• Set flaps to half.
• Release the parking brake.
10. Taxi and Arm Ejection Seat
• Taxi clear of obstructions and arm the ejection seat.
11. Align with Runway
• Taxi to align with the runway.
• Press the takeoff trim button while holding the brakes.
12. Take Off
• Throttle up to military power and release brakes when moving.
• Set throttle to afterburner.
• Do not pull back on the stick; the nose will lift by itself.
13. Post-Takeoff Procedures
• Raise landing gear and set flaps to auto.
• Set RWR, Jammer, and dispenser as required

I miss the sound of those birds starting up. It's an amazing and yet haunting sound. The smell of the engines. The downside was when I had to wear my firefighter gear and stand near the running engines while the bird was being fueled up. Your eyes would water even with thick goggles on because the engines were turning, and you could see all the way inside. It was a strange charcoal bbq smell, and your eyes felt like they were getting a mild dose of pepper juice. Lol. Good times. Vfa 146
