I remember finding a glitch that skips like half the game in the fourth area (the dark eco lab thing) where you could somehow get into the loading zone for the late game dark daxter segment and the game went on from that point. I repeated that glitch a few times
On new game + or whatever it's called I watched a cutscene during a mission and that bugged the game so hard that it skipped most missions and instead of giving me the proper mission afterwards sent me directly to the end
In this game Jak is voiced by Josh Keaton who is your friendly neighbor hood Spider-Man he eventually reprise his role as Jak in PlayStation AllStars which is confusing considering the fact in PlayStation Move Heroes Mike Earwin reprise his role as Jak so it’s on again off again for Jak, as for Keira she is voiced by Timmy Turner Herself Tara Strong she replaced Anna Garduño who was Keira’s original voice actor in the Precursor Legacy and Jak 2 during Jak 3’s development which she eventually reprise her role as Keira in Jak X.
Out of the series, this is most definitely the weakest installments and one of the plot holes I talked about in the video; Everyone is using dark eco, but Jak can't transform to dark jak?
Tym's discount Vin design was actually created by Naughty Dog. If you check out the leaked videos there was a cutscene with the original creation of Neil Druckmann and Daniel Arey (original script writer of the original trilogy), and it had the exact same model.
It was actually my first jak game. Not my first Daxter game. But i loved it at the time, i just found frustrating the part were you need to stop time and do the plataforming section while fighting the eletric eels. That frustration gave me a bad time sleeping
I blame High Impact AND Sony. And you lied by.... something in this review. The basic premise was from Naughty Dog, and that includes Sky Pirates™. Aside form Dark Daxter, most things are from Naughty Dog's original plan. Also, there is NOTHING uncool about sky pirates.
I remember the PS2 version playing decent. The eco powers we're compinations of a couple of buttons, shoot was on R1 and weapon switching on the d-pad... wait what did L1 do? Anyways it may just be because I was young but either way I remember having a good time on it.
Eco power does do damage to dark sky head, You must need max yellow eco power so ur yellow Jump boost does explosion damage, and if green eco power is maxed, Your construct power can deal damage
I agree with you. For me how to fix jak and daxter the lost frontier is simple. Remove the dark daxter missions or make it more engaging. Change the plot and make it better instead of the whole "eco shortage" nonsense. Return Dark jak and Light jak and add new moves and abilities for both of them. And let Mike Erwin reprise his role as jak because Mike IS Jak. Limit the flying missions. Return the morph and new ideas for the morph guns. And then the lost frontier could have been the ultimate jak and daxter experience we could have. It's really that simple.
Dark Daxter seems like that's how the Dark Makers really should've looked like considering the fact near the climax of Jak 3, they're revealed to be Ottsels.
Lol I loved this game on psp. But back then I was very young and I loved almost every single game I played on psp. I thought the jet you got to fly and customize was such a cool mechanic. I do remember raging often tho... great review, it’s funny to see all the things that would frustrate me now!
Man, I thought this game actually didn't get released, I am a die hard fan of this series and I just now realized this game got released and I just had NO Exposure to this, the only reason why this came to light was because I was wondering if they were planning on continuing the series and found this out, wow I still don't know what to think
And still it's one of my favourite psp games. This game aims just to port a "Jak experience" on a portable console (just like Ratchet psp), totally unpretentious, with a good ost, controls that feels the same as previous games and multiple changes and new abilities that I personally appreciated. Is it the worst in the series? Maybe, but not a bad game as many claim. People use to judge this game as it was a "Jak 4", but it's not Jak 4, it's a short "spinoff" third party game for psp, ported to ps2 too, and it's really good for what it is, a short pocket-size Jak experience.
I just played the game for the first time having been a massive fan of the original trilogy. It's bad man. It's really bad. Dark Daxter? Um Jak was special because he was able to channel eco. Yet here everyone can do it. Also the villain only shows up at the end! It was a silly game.
Keira's VA had actually changed back in Jak 3. Don't get me wrong, I love Tara Strong, but it's just...odd hearing her voice Keira. That botched nose & eye job she got in Jak 3 didn't help either. One thing I DID appreciate about this game though, is that FINALLY somebody other than Jak got some new duds. She has finally AGED XD. Her concept art for the game looked nice.....unfortunately, we just...can't say the same for her model. Keira ain't looked good facially since Jak II, & even then, it was a downgrade from Jak 1 😖. Only ones who REALLY got better models were Jak & Samos. Daxter's expressions just weren't as cartoony as before. Also, you ain't heard? Tym's Vin's daddy. He moved from Haven City out to the air wasteland in TLF & went loco after he heard about Vin gettin' chomped on by the Metal Heads in Jak II
Something about Keira has never looked right facially ever since Jak 2. Even in Jak 3 it was weird but was the best looking since the Precursor Legacy (despite lower polys in that one.)
@@bobo577 I didn’t like how she looked in 3 onward, her face just felt messed up, nose was off & her eyes didn’t look right. TPL has her best model but I can deal wit the Jak II model. I WILL give TLF props in actually aging her tho, Jak changes clothes & overall design in every game, yet here’s Keira consistently rockin’ a 2nd version of her 1st outfit & the same hairstyle (her TLF concept art looks pretty good too, too bad the model sucked tho)
@@bobo577 It’s kinda funny, her art’s always been on point, but for whatever reason her models took a downgrade with almost each game released (pretty sure her Jak 3 model was reused in Jak X). I know finalized concept artwork doesn’t always crossover too well into game models, like older GTA games, some Crash games, especially 4 (Cortex looks more intimidating in his artwork than in the game), etc., but DAMN Keira 🤣
It really says something about the bad writing and direction when even Tara Strong (Keira from 3 to TLF, and also like every voice from every medium on the planet) can't even give a good performance.
I played this game when i was a kid and i had a lot of fun doing it... I think the music is great, i love it. The controls on ps2 are way better then psp. I agree with all the rest you said... i'm just hoping for jak 4 and i hope they don't make something too steampunk... in the present. In the future it could be fine (but damn, you have flying cars so there's no need to do something steampunk. I'm refering to the concept arts). Maybe they want to reboot the serie and i'm not happy with this... i want to know more about THIS jak and daxter!
Well Daxter is already a precursor so that’s why he touch the dark eco but turn into a otzel which is part of the precursors which means touching the dark eco is his destiny so making him Dark Daxter is pretty much not his destiny but an accident
i enjoyed it, on psp and ps2 its a nice jak like game but has less to do with original jak. its a good game by itself like yes its playable, collecting, upgrading and exploring does make fun but yeah. its a weird big step from jak 3 / jak x to ''this'' like whats up is the earth flat now huh or why this weird world.
This was the only Jack i played so far, and my first AAA game i played, this game turn me a gamer. It can be a bad game, when compared to other Jack games, but, for people that dont understand Jack trilogy, its an amazing game.
Lost frontier has Sky Pirates Yeah I get it Jak 2 had an underground rebellion and Jak 3 had an dystopian dry dessert so what makes since for lost frontier to have Pirates
Always considered it a spin off. When ND or a developer who’d buy the series for a faithful sequel, they’d give us Jak 4. The real Jak 4. This game didn’t feel at all a Jak game. It felt like a huge downgrade
If by some lottery ticket chance you go back to this game, there is a ps2 version which is muck less awkard to control. At that point its mostly traditional Jak controls minus the mechanics the game didnt include
As a guy who played this as his first Jak and Daxter game, I honestly didn't dislike it. Sure, the main series is way better, but I genuinely don't believe this is a bad game, if I have to judge it by my memory.
I quite enjoyed this game and as a completionist I always Daxter jaked every ship even if I had stuff from it while there were things I didn't like I still enjoyed it mainly cause I didn't play the psp version cause I'm not a complete masochist
The world isnt in balance anymore because of eco is like high impact is saying well we couldnt put the dark and light eco powers on the psp version se we had to come up with something i guess
Funny enough I've played the game on both consoles, ps2 and psp. The psp version was definitely better. But I really have to agree. This game isn't very good. I don't hate it but it's far from great too.
I too own the PS2 version. I don't know why I didn't chose it over the PSP, but I've heard mixed things about both versions. It must be the game afterall?
BoomerStreams yeah awesome! But I gotta ask you too, are you a fan of any of the other ps2/ps1 exclusives like ratchet and clank, sly cooper, crash bandicoot, spyro the dragon or kingdom hearts at all? I love all of them as well as jak and daxter very much but especially kingdom hearts since I'm a huge Disney fan too. The whole concept with ff really is mindblowing I think!
Personally I liked this game I don't really understand all the hate, to me it semi fits in the timeline given jaks outfit is from Jak x. I guess I'm the only person in the fandom who even likes this game......
You're not the only one enjoying this game. I've seen many people telling me they like the game, so don't worry about it. It's definitely the weakest installment in the series though.
I ALWAYS THOUGHT FOR SOME RESON THEY WOULD BRING IT BACK TO THE PRESENT THAT IN A FINAL GAME THEY WOULD BE SENT BACK TO THERE TIME LINE THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN AWSOME AND IT WAS CONFUSING FOR ME DID JACK LIKE THE GIRL OR NOT CAUSE I BELIVE IN THE FIRST THEY DID THEN I SECOND THEY DIDNT ASWELL AS THIRD BUT IN X THEY DID LIKE EACH OTHER AGAIN
I told you on the stream that I actually enjoyed this game when I was a child/teen but I forgot to mention that I played the PSP version. I think that playing a game on a inferior console than the PS2 made me lower my expectations on it. Because of it I didn't complain as much as I wanted and made me enjoy it a bit more. But, in the end, it's still a bad game. And yes, I completed 101%! Never again!
I hate the 3D model change of Jak since X. Keira's looked off since 3 I'm pretty sure. Shame the PS3 was such a bitch to work on in those early days, and Naughty Dog had to pass this off.
First Jak game for me... I now see that I have been scammed, I played this to completion, the battle with the monkeys are just atrocious, I died a lot there, I hated the Drak Daxter moments in the game. I wish I could play Jack 1, 2, and 3 now.
I couldn't stand playing it on the PSP, I got it for the PS2 and played it, still wasn't that great. It honestly felt like they took everything the actual series built up and just threw it out the window. All of the old characters save for Jak, Keira, and Daxter just suddenly cease to exist despite Jak being pretty close friends with a lot of people. And yeah, you collect all of this Dark Eco to turn into Keira to upgrade yourself, but you can't turn into Light or Dark Jak??? But everyone else can on a whim??? Also, wasn't Baron Praxis literally scraping by with the last bit of Eco in Jak 2? Are you seriously telling me the Aurorans were hording all of it?
I guess HIG were more ratchet and clank devs. I am just happy to get these games put on portable devices, but I can see why jak fans would hate this. 😁
@@BoomerStreams the nonlybmobile game I have is a port of an old rpg from gba. I wish they would poet some quality platformers. I have horrif dystonia so it's easier for me to play psp and so on, though. The more ports of everything, the better. Although I am more of a RAC player and fan, I respect jka as a superior platformer. I hope we will get similar games in the future, but I think it will take a whole.. Mods would be nice - I would learn the code to do it if I had the health.. Have a great day, fellow I platformer fan. 😁
I enjoyed the video, but I think having a structure to it would be a lot better. It seems like you're just talking about a lot of general thoughts instead of giving a structured review. For instance, you go from briefly talking about the opening of the game, to then the movement of Jaks on foot gameplay. Then you go on to talk about High Impact Games as a company, then about Dark Daxter. And, it's not even about the gameplay of Dark Daxter, just the concept of it. The video keeps doing this throughout, instead of, say, talking about story, then about gameplay, then about the different types of gameplay, etc. It just feels like a lot of disconnected thoughts. I also feel you're being a bit harsh on Jaks movement. While I agree it doesn't feel nearly as good as the original games, you can't really blame it. It was made for PSP, and for what it is, they got his movement pretty good. The control scheme of using L and R to pan the camera was also necessary because of the lack of a second analogue stick. A lot of games on the PSP did it like this. All in all, I enjoyed the video, but I feel like a bit more structure and explanations would benefit in future videos. Just to note, I'm not defending this game, I hate it with a passion, just some constructive criticism. Keep up the good work man. (just don't look at the review I did of the game, i made that when I was like 13 and it's horrendous)
I definitely need to work on the structure of my videos. This being the first time in quite a while I've done a review, I've already noticed some flaws. I do appreciate your feedback, it's very welcome! ☺️ ...and I'm glad you enjoyed the review.
Something that happened to me was that the game crashed in mission were you have to fight a pirate Air ship? Crazy y sold it forward. My version was de PS2 version
it does not mean that you dont like the game that you have to give reasons why not to play the game. its like me going to somebody else's youtube channel and saying don't go watch this guy he does not post good content that's just not right dude
This game was so disappointing and forgettable. I totally forget about this game when I think of jak and daxter. Even Naughty Dog themselves admitted that they didn't like this game and if they had their hands on this game they could have done a much better job than High Impact Games.
Jak 1 and 2 and psp daxter and jak 3 were the best games ever, and jak x but jak 2 and 3 I loved the most I really wished they continued on but they made this crap
Seit 10 Jahren kamm kein weiterer Jak and Daxter Teil raus. Mal abgesehen von den Ps3 und Ps4 Imports.

Josh Keaton who is your friendly neighbor hood Spider-Man he eventually reprise his role as Jak in PlayStation AllStars which is confusing considering the fact in
PlayStation Move Heroes Mike Earwin reprise his role as Jak so it’s on again off again for Jak, as for Keira she is voiced by Timmy Turner Herself Tara Strong she replaced Anna Garduño who was Keira’s original voice actor in the Precursor Legacy and Jak 2
during Jak 3’s development which she eventually reprise her role as Keira in Jak X.
TLF isn't that bad. It's a pretty decent game. Also what plot holes are there?
Out of the series, this is most definitely the weakest installments and one of the plot holes I talked about in the video; Everyone is using dark eco, but Jak can't transform to dark jak?
I’m 2 years late but, the biggest mistake ND ever did was let another studio work on their baby.
Tym's discount Vin design was actually created by Naughty Dog. If you check out the leaked videos there was a cutscene with the original creation of Neil Druckmann and Daniel Arey (original script writer of the original trilogy), and it had the exact same model.
I've actually never seen those videos, so I wouldn't know. Thanks for sharing!
I do wonder if the PS2 version plays any better. It really should, being on a stronger system and having a proper controller, but who knows.
I'm thinking of revisiting the the game to a later point in time on the PS2. Maybe, things will change afterall.
@@BoomerStreams MIght not be a bad idea! Though, I'll suggest taking a long break so you don't lose your will to live! :D
I didn’t even know this game existed until the early 2010’s.
It came out 2009 lmap
Good review. You made some good points. I thought that the VA was great though
Thanks, much appreciated!
Well if it had some of The Jak 2 and Jak 3 characters and Jak's controls weren't garbage it would be great
I agree with you.
What is the videos name where you played lost frontier
What it needed is Mike Erwin the original Jak voice
@@themenacingsloth the Model in TLF is bad in game facially. The concept art definitely looks better. I agree on that.
@@themenacingsloth It was used for Jak X indeed. I just know why it’s hard to nail her face down.
Dode
I LOVE the lost frontier
Yes it's not normal
But it's like a new game a new trilogy new story for me in my opinion
This was the only Jack i played so far, and my first AAA game i played, this game turn me a gamer. It can be a bad game, when compared to other Jack games, but, for people that dont understand Jack trilogy, its an amazing game.
Lost frontier has Sky Pirates
Yeah I get it Jak 2 had an underground rebellion and Jak 3 had an dystopian dry dessert so what makes since for lost frontier to have Pirates
My TPL collectors edition has shipped - no news on Jak 2 yet
I'm SO GLAD I didn't buy this and instead got Rayman 3 when I saw it in a CEX shop when I was younger.
Is this game better on PS2?
A lot of people didn't have the psp at the time this came out.
Emulating it atm, and I'm actually liking it. Dislike the flight mechanics, tho
EDIT: THERE'S A PS2 VERSION?
Annoyed Boomer is hilarious 😂
Thank you! My friend Pooki did a great job of drawing my avatar.
I quite enjoyed this game and as a completionist I always Daxter jaked every ship even if I had stuff from it while there were things I didn't like I still enjoyed it mainly cause I didn't play the psp version cause I'm not a complete masochist
I only played the first three when I had my PS2
The world isnt in balance anymore because of eco is like high impact is saying well we couldnt put the dark and light eco powers on the psp version se we had to come up with something i guess
True... I guess. Still, it felt really empty.
I can see Jak shaving his gotee and Kira she should have look like this in Jak 2 & 3
The game states its only based off of it as well when you boot it up
Funny enough I've played the game on both consoles, ps2 and psp.
Can’t wait for the next video bro
What do you want the next video to be on?
I really hope they continue the Jak saga
This was the only Jak and daxter game i every played, i had it for psp for some reason, I enjoyed It a lot.
Maybe? Who knows! Even if you do like the game to this day, I couldn't be mad at you. Everyone enjoys different things. ☺️
I hate the 3D model change of Jak since X. Keira's looked off since 3 I'm pretty sure. Shame the PS3 was such a bitch to work on in those early days, and Naughty Dog had to pass this off.
i don't know a fun psp game honestly, the flying and customization was awesome though
First Jak game for me... I now see that I have been scammed, I played this to completion, the battle with the monkeys are just atrocious, I died a lot there, I hated the Drak Daxter moments in the game. I wish I could play Jack 1, 2, and 3 now.
Thanks for this review, I really do hope we get a proper sequel soon, or a remake of Jak 1 🙄 Still my favourite one
A Jak 1 Remake would be SICK!
Technically this game is not connected since is not made by the same people and the graphics are completely different.
10:10 the flat earther comment caught me so off guard i laughed so hard
I bought this game when it was new,on PS2, basically wasted $40..I will say,it plays more like an okay Rachet and Clank game
The last time I played this game was years ago but I loved it
I agree too. This game is terrible at all. I missed so much Jak 1,2,3 series.
I was so excited seeing that there was a new jak and Daxter. Literally 5 min in the game I shut if off from how bad it was
That could be me right there. 😩
I guess HIG were more ratchet and clank devs. I am just happy to get these games put on portable devices, but I can see why jak fans would hate this. 😁
This goes the other way around too, I believe. I always appreciate when they port mobile games to the console (which they did). 👌
4:42 Bullets won't work, Jon.
Agree, this wasn't even jakanddaxter
...and I'm glad you enjoyed the review.
Something that happened to me was that the game crashed in mission were you have to fight a pirate Air ship? Crazy y sold it forward. My version was de PS2 version
This game is good nothing can change my mind
That's perfectly fine.
Awesome video mate!
Thank you! Took me quite some time before I was able to finish it. Writing the script took forever... 😰
Everthing is bad, but... WHERE IS JAK'S GOATEEE????
The lost frontier failed because it isn't a Naughty Dog game LOL
Also true. But, it did start as one!
jak and daxter the lost frontier is the best Game ever
Overall I think it’s a good game at least 7/10 but compared to the other jak and daxter 9/10 they failed it
imagine playing a jak game where jak and keira look like two sacs of potatoes
This is the game for you then, because she indeed does look like two sacks of potatoes. 😅
it does not mean that you dont like the game that you have to give reasons why not to play the game. its like me going to somebody else's youtube channel and saying don't go watch this guy he does not post good content that's just not right dude
Who are you talking to exactly?
@@BoomerStreams you
This game was so disappointing and forgettable. I totally forget about this game when I think of jak and daxter. Even Naughty Dog themselves admitted that they didn't like this game and if they had their hands on this game they could have done a much better job than High Impact Games.
good job on the video boomer keep up the great work
Thank you! Definitely will.
Jak 1 and 2 and psp daxter and jak 3 were the best games ever, and jak x but jak 2 and 3 I loved the most I really wished they continued on but they made this crap
That's too bad, it sounds like the game wasn't completely devoid of potential. Sounds terrible, nonetheless.
Well have you played PS2 boom this game is my type stop saying it suks!!!! Its a actual flying first pirson mode
Naughty Dog didn’t make this right?
Seit 10 Jahren kamm kein weiterer Jak and Daxter Teil raus. Mal abgesehen von den Ps3 und Ps4 Imports.
Unfortunately this is my childhood
I'm sorry. 🤣
